For the Hiyori stuff, if you look back to his Special Trailer to the same moment when Hiyori pops out to jump the opponent, you'll see that Shinji hasn't awakened yet BUT he is in his Sakanade-state. So i think Hiyori being summoned in free flow combat is tied to Sakanade

I think people don't really understand the way his signature works. It's not that in your base state you do the counter, and in sakanade state, you do the unblockable. In sakanade state, you can choose: if you use the signature while standing still, you will do the counter, and if you are walking forward, you will do the unblockable. Both versions have the same starting animation, so the opponent has to guess which one you are using hence the 50/50 mind games

Also, when his mask is on, it seems Hiyori can stay on the field while you are attacking or moving so you can prep either while the opponent is focused on her.
Any sort of implementation of your controls reversing is an immediate and easy-to-use win condition (a good example of this is Red Screen Jason from MKX) its best they kept him as a heavy mix-up character. Good decision on the devs.

It will be either be broken toxic or so ridiculously restricted that it would be borderline unplayable and awful to use. This approach keeps the "messing with opponent" While keeping him grounded in the game mechanics.
He takes control of your vision, making you believe he is attacking right when he is attacking left. His shikai is an optical illusion, which is why Aizen broke it once slashed in the anime. He doesn't take control of your movements only what you see

So, counters usually all have really obvious animations. In competitive scenarios, you're not using them with the expectation that your opponent will eventually swing into it. They ALWAYS have really obvious "I'm going to counter and murder you" animations. No. You're using them knowing when your opponent is going to hit you. Usually right as you're getting up to deal with their oki. Anji and Baiken are two great examples from Guilty Gear Strive. Both do a "I'm countering right now, do not strike me!" pose. But you never see that pose because you're too busy hitting them on their wakeup. I've seen this a few times now with people talking about counters in this game. Counters are, functionally, reversals. The animation after them not getting activated in the first 16 frames is your punishment and your opponent's chance to do something about it.

We talked about this in your discord, but this is for everyone else. Shinji's Signature is a lot stronger than we may think. You have to remember, this 50/50 is FREE, so that means on oki after you knock him down, he can pop this while you're trying to pressure him. He can pop this at the end of a combo string that you block to try and bait you to punish. He can even pop it when you Flash Step on reaction and if you attack out of your Flash Step, you will eat this. There is a lot of applications we have to explore.
Yeah great points once again. And looking at the toshiro gameplay we just got, he was using his ice drop move in a very similar way, setting it up to catch gin mid combo and then capitalizing with his own combo because of it
On the website the sections are separated into: Soul society, World of the living and huecoo mundo, that is, regions, not necessarily races or powers, the vizards are in the world of the living, so it is not difficult to have more vizards appearing there, at least it is what would I like

I noticed from the jump with how they presented him they wanted him to be more dependant on mix ups and rushdown, basically to mimick the feel of how he likes to keep his opponents on their toes in the actual series. so even tho Reverse world isnt a move the essence of it and how shinji is as a character is technically still there. Great breakdown video as well btw.

i think the sakanade mode just changes his unique skill (for a certain amount of time?). As for the hiyori stuff i think that animation we saw might only happen if he's in neutral? and maybe you can de-summon her at will and thats why she left before getting hit? Shinji's biggest problem seems to be that you cannot let the opponent get away from you at any cost. His only options to hit from far away is a flash step attack (which costs reverse gauge) or his SP move 1 which costs meter. He's probably really good against rushdowns, really bad against zoners?
Actually, looking at the first shinji trailer we got. at 1:08 we see him spin sakanade to hit grimmjow several times. Could it be that releasing Sakanade also changes up his quick attacks and flash attacks?
Even in the character trailer we see her leave without getting hit. She doesn't stay on the field until hit, which would probably be way to much. You can just make her leave before by hitting her early.
I was thinking maybe its more for when a character uses a rush attack that closes distance and Shinji would do that "walk slow" counter so unless you can cancel out of the rush ppl will get caught by it or catch ppl off guard with it during fast paced battles

The shikai can inverse controls. And as the enemy character acclimatizes, some controls return to normal every 5 seconds

Soi fon health is going to be bad and also it’s not going to be easy hit you have to hold it
Soi fon 2 hit gonna be near impossible to get off. You gotta fully charge it, no one is letting you do that freely

Lets not act like we attacking Shinji when that walk starts. Higher chance everybody picking ranged characters against him either way
