@@JesseStutsman Yeah so much better, at level 12 or 14 i got new binoculars which shows distance away from animals and it really helped getting close easier and faster
In case anyone’s reading this thread, even before you unlock the binoculars that show distance, you can just place markers on top of animals, which give you an approximate distance. This way you can pin point how fast you should be moving to not scare the animal. I can’t remember which tip it was in the video.
The most needed tip for the new players should be - if you spot the animal drinking, eating or resting - do not rush, it will be there for hours (usually), take your time, make an approach considering wind, noise, distance and angle. When I started the game I was always on the rush - like, I need to close up with the target while it is still there. Don't do this.
I NEEDED this!! I was crouching around and getting so frustrated that I was slow, wasn't getting any animals, and wasn't sure what was wrong. Now I GET IT! I've been running around and getting more kills in the last hour than I had in the past 3 hours. Thank you so much for this! Love the humor

Most real tips. As a new player I noticed the little bullshit right from the start so it's good to see a fan that isn't defensive as if they work for them.
Great video. I love the humour! I haven't played COTW for a long time. My son started playing it, so I installed it again and thought I would get a refresher course. If I remember correctly, I think the guns have an optimal range to kill. I took a shot at a Buffalo with my 7mm rifle around 300m, and it wasn't good, the animal lived. That was before I watched this video the shot wasn't a vital hit 😂. So I wasted time tracking with my Blood hound. On the way back to the outpost, I came across another 3 Buffalo. I got within 150m and took my shots, the animals died quickly. Hunting with others is also fun.
@@LengthyEmperor Good question, I’m pretty sure the guns are zero’d in at a 150m by default. You can also get the zeroing skill which can change that to 75m or 300m, or something else depending on the gun. In my opinion 150m is pretty good for all intents and purposes. In fact, I miss more shots having that skill because I forget to swap the 300m or 75m back to 150m sometimes.
Btw dogs also have their own skill tree also as your leveling them up me personally I use a bloodhound idk how the retrievers work but there’s one skill where they can scare off defending animals from running into you or charging at you temporarily buying you some time to reload your gun or heal yourself when you need that time so just keep that in mind also
I mean... retrievers can retrieve all that SMALL game. I bought the Bloodhound dlc as a new player and it really is a "game changer" xD Looking forward to the next night hunt...
Well made, informative and sometimes pretty funny. Very good diction, some juicy well-placed profanity. I liked it. But, I have to say you're wrong about the scent issue. Damn that matters when missions have you sneaking up close to top predators.
Thanks for the kind comments! I’ll try to do more research on the wind/scent mechanics because I don’t actually know how much it plays into scaring an animal. For instance is an animal 20% more likely to scare with perfect wind from you towards the animal? 50% more? I wonder. Your scent probably more important than I thought, however, I still feel like it’s kind of a bothersome mechanic instead of a well-thought out one. I just constantly slap on the anti-scent spray and that’s it. Not sure what more they could do with wind, but the spray makes it kind of bothersome in a paradoxical way.
Great video dude, just got this game and this video really helped clarify some things which hopefully make my next play go a lot smoother 😂 Keep up the great work, have fun and stay safe! 😁❤️👍🏻
Thanks very much! Funnily enough I calculated that it probably took more than 100h and not 70 or 80h like I said in the video, because I worked on it for over 3 weeks, and on average more than 4 hours every single day. (4.5 hours over around 24 days = 108, and btw not counting just playing the game for fun) I know the video’s not perfect and it sounds like it’s too much time for what it’s worth, but editing especially takes a lot of time, not to mention writing, doing research, rewriting, specific footage gathering etc.
Bloodhound are nice for tracking and driving a atv, also tracking 2 animals at the same time. I just started playing this game on xbox after a few years, played it on pc before and you could kill animals up to 600-700m so the backpack was nice then.

Find as many need zones as you can doesnt matter what kind only rhe species the more need zones you find the more likely you are to find diamonds and more animals around. Hearing "DLC" be used in such a context really rubs me wrong. First of all, it's not really "downloadable"when it's already part of the installed game, you just pay for the access key to your own files on your system lol (but at least in theHunter's case, it's mostly because of the possibility of requiring it for multiplayer games), secondly nowhere in the initialism D.L.C. is the word "paid", so it being something you pay for is literally not what DLC means, it's just something we've sadly come to get used to. With gigachad expansions sadly going the way of the dodo.
@@robertstan298 I agree. Should be called something like DPC, downloadable paid content instead. Furthermore, if it’s even possible, we should differentiate proper Expansions from the copy-pasted, file unlocking slop that is most DLC nowadays.
To mark animals for a couple seconds, you need to take out your binoculars and press the interact key, whatever it is on your platform, I think it’s E in the PC. If you keep looking it at it with the binoculars, the outline shouldn’t disappear.

god job man
Hearing "DLC" be used in such a context really rubs me wrong.

I agree. Should be called something like DPC, downloadable paid content instead. Furthermore, if it’s even possible, we should differentiate proper Expansions from the copy-pasted, file unlocking slop that is most DLC nowadays.
Just bought the game and found this video! How come none of the animals in my game are highlighted in green like yours are?
To mark animals for a couple seconds, you need to take out your binoculars and press the interact key, whatever it is on your platform, I think it’s E in the PC. If you keep looking it at it with the binoculars, the outline shouldn’t disappear.
Ok, I had the binoculars out but didn’t press interact, didn’t even see it lol. I play on PC too but w controller
Also, which other maps should I get? What are your favorites?
