    I agree with you regarding the versatility of the SR vs a p bass. While I love the p bass tone it doesn’t always work in live situations and can be boomy or woolly. The stingray just has much more focused tone .

    Bob I am 58 years old and I want old school with an old and new sound. Thanks you for doing this video. I was looking at the Fender Meteora Bass but my choice is the Ernie Ball Music Man Dark Ray 4 with a Darkglass Microtube 900 v2 rig.

    Good Sounding..better than my '69 Fender Custom shop Precision Bass/Jazz Bass neck at the time a custom color at the time, now I think Fender refers to it as ocean turquoise. Occasionally picked up but recently brought to the only Fender certified Custom Shop and they returned to me, said they worked with the neck but it's not right. I need to call them in CA or AZ. I really like the Ernie Ball basses. My wife hates me.

    I'm going to have the same bass guitar as you. Trade with my Musicman Sterling US. The only difference is that the StingRay I am going to get has a rosewood fretboard. It is sunburst and has a matching headstock. Year 2007. I am looking forward to get it, and hope it will have the same kind of sound as yours !!!

    Hey Bob ! I have received the Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray I told you two days ago. It is beautiful ( sunburst, matching headstock, rosewood fretboard ). And it sounds really great. And as I hoped, it's sounds like yours : very precise sound: low, mid and treble are all here, perfectly balanced. And I am really lucky, the bass is 17 years old and it seems new !

    So was the traditional way better or the Ernie Ball method better? I always mark, cut, bend, and wrap my strings around the capstan and never through the middle.
    Also I started with Ernie Ball rounds as a kid for my bass, went to Rotosound rounds, acquired multiple basses since (always Rotosound) and eventually put LaBella low tension flats on my P/J Mustang (best decision ever).
    I have a HH Sterling Stingray with Funkmasters by Rotosound and my heavy hand isn't cutting it. Was debating trying flats or standard rounds for it.

    • @BobBlackBass
      @BobBlackBass  Рік тому

      Hey Joe time, I found the Ernie Ball way to be much better. I ruined an $80 set of flat wounds the traditional way. The G string just kept slipping no matter how many windings. The Ernie Ball method keeps that from happening.

    • @satho4790
      @satho4790 Рік тому

      @@BobBlackBass The Elixir Nanoweb stainless steel are really good but some musicians find them too bright and don't like the feeling when they touch them. Personally, I use these strings because I like to have them for a long time with the same sound. I would have liked your opinion even though anyway, it is the opposite of the flat wounds that you seem to appreciate a lot ! One thing I forgot : The Elixir are much more expensive than the classic strings ( Ernie Ball, D'addario, etc...), but you can keep them much longer.
