Fun Fact, AB 1840 has not passed into law yet. It only a proposal. 20% downpayment is not law yet. And is not a program just for immigrants. It is a program open to all and only a few are selected. There is wording that allows immigrants to apply, but not all approved. And US citizens are given priority. It isn’t even a law yet, just a proposal. It’s geared toward Homeless with children, disabled, and US citizens and veterans. However most of those groups don’t have enough monthly income to buy a home. So it is the rare person who would even be able to maintain a 30 year mortgage to even take advantage of a borrowed downpayment that you pay back with interest if the house sells later. Not many will meet the mortgage monthly payment amount with the cost of housing being so high. It takes several jobs and several families living in one house to do it anymore.
No illegals should get 20% down. Everything should be for US citizens.

Why San Diego? 15 years ago I worked for Fed Ex freight, my route was the warehouse district on the border in Otay Mesa. One day at a warehouse I walked to the end of the employee parking lot, up a small hill and there was no fence on the border, you could just walk right into Mexico.
