In this video I try an experiment: forge my initials in damascus caps with 1095 steel powder, copper and 15N20 steel!
I wanted to form the letters with copper but bad idea! The letters literally melted, which ruined the steel and created a crack. Next time I will make my letters in 15N20. This experience allowed me to observe that, despite the hot pressing, the waves did not move.
And yes... damask is not so easy to make!
So I asked myself:
- Do I throw this video in the trash?
- Can this kind of video interest my community?
After thinking about it, I said to myself "I'll share it, we'll see!"

Dans cette vidéo je tente une expérience : forger mes initiales en damas capsules avec de la poudre d’acier 1095, du cuivre et de l’acier 15N20 !
J’ai voulu former les lettres avec du cuivre mais mauvaise idée ! Celles-ci ont littéralement fondues ce qui saccagé l’acier et créé une fissure. La prochaine fois je réaliserai mes lettres en 15N20. Cette expérience m’aura permis d’observer que, malgré, le pressage à chaud, les vagues n’ont pas bougées.
Et oui… le damas n’est pas si facile à réaliser !
Je me suis donc posé des questions :
- Est-ce que je jette cette vidéo à la poubelle ?
- Est-ce que ce genre de vidéo peut quand même intéresser ma communauté ?
Après réflexion, je me suis dit « je la partage, on verra bien ! »

The melting point of copper is much lower than that of powdersteel. That just can't work. There are also a few you tubers who have already tried this. I would do it with nickel instead of copper.

There are plenty of UA-cam blacksmiths who forge weld copper & steel and make amazing knives. It can be done but it's extremely difficult......not sure if it can be done with powdered steel though as all they are really doing is getting the copper hot enough to fuse to the steel rather than actually forge welding the two and the powdered steel would need to be forge welded together.
Par contre pour le motif, le test est concluant ? J'avoue que je saisis pas comment ton dessin peut ressortir intact après que la lame ait subie un étirement 😅
Oui ça a marché on retrouve bien le dessin à la fin mais les lettres ce sont volatilisées 😭😭😭 elles se seraient allongées un peu aussi c'est sûr 😉
