I hope they think about lone wolf players that just want to wander around the world for exploration and leveling, while doing some random pvps, this professions/nodes and all of this looks overwhelming if required from new players. Similar to some mmorpgs that you start the game with 20 skills, 30 talents, full gear, a lot of stuff to read, a lot of tutorials and things you need to kinda study before even know if you really want to play the game
I backed this back in 2017 when they had a 2021 release date. I've kinda just put it on the backburner and haven't looked into it for a while but I'm glad to see how far they have come. My pack gives me access to the alpha 2 so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I appreciate you cautioning the community about the “FOMO” and spending the $100+ to participate. There’s a lot of people out there that will spend money on video games when it’s really not wise of them to do so. I’m excited that the AoC devs have players/creators like yourself to help them tune up the game. The closer they get to launch, the more excited I become for the game to finally be released. I just hope it comes out in the next 1-2 years. I am so tired of being burned by over ambitious Kick Starters. This game has been in development for years and it slightly reminds me of what Star Citizen is doing and I hope it proves me wrong. I want a good MMO, but I don't want to wait forever to play a finished product. They do not seem to be all about money grabbing so I am still excited to see this finally come out.
I hope they increase the launch player capacity per realm than the 2017 number of 10k. At 10k players per server there will be vast zones of dead content due to lack of player concentration. I am talking worse than New World, New world has 2500 player cap at 1/12 of Ashes land content and it's still a desert at places on "high pop" realms.
I'm looking forward to the launch of this game. I don't think I'm going to pay to be a part of the alpha, but I am definitely intrigued and hope they finish it soon
This game sounds incredible to me and a buddy we found out about it a few years ago. We've been playing mmorpgs together for over 15 years... would tlove to test this game but I can't come close to affording that right now.. but I will FOR SURE be there on release..... :D:D:D:D:D:D

I'm not really closely following AOC development (better not to create unnecessary hype and just keep realistic expectations) so this question goes for the folks that are: Will the game have social features? and if so, how in depth are they gonna be? By that i mean, Emotes, Character Customization (outside character creation), Player interaction systems and in general features that promote/enable the social interaction between players. I'm not necessarily a big social player but i do enjoy being able to interact with other people by in-game means. A good exemple of what i mean is FFXIV or WOW, both having a great amount of emotes and general social interaction features and a good amount of customization for the player. Something that is one of the biggest reasons to player retention and is unfortunately neglected by most MMOs out there, either not having any at all, being very superficial or behind a pay wall.
@@Edellwaisblossom it’s very social. In fact I’d say it’s the one of the only few MMOs bring the social aspects back to MMOs and the amount of character customization and identity planned sounds lovely
I'm pretty hype for this game in so many ways, you had a small mention of player markets and part of me has always tried to be like a merchant and I'm hoping I'll be able to do something like that in this game. RP ofc not rwt.
No global market is interesting. Does this mean they are going to try to combat websites where you post the item you want to sell and then meet up in game? How are they going to insure players don’t get scammed by other players if there isn’t a reference of what the going price is?
They have huge plans to combat RMT and will be punishing to players who do so. They will have a lot of tech checking logs and maybe even sting operations

Ive been playing MMOs since DAoC/WoW, from all I‘ve played (really a lot / nearly all) I like(d) WoW, GW2 and ESO best. NW was ok until „endgame“. For Ashes I‘m not hyped, but I‘m MMO hungry, although I‘m bit older meanwhile and thus I fear that for time-casuals (because I know how to play, but lack time) AoC will be the wrong target group :-( A lot of mechanics and features let me think, oh man, a lot (too much) of time invest needed.. lets see what the next months will show us.

Im going to give it two months until everyone is crammed on just a few servers, and then they have to completely change how the game works. No one is going to want to play on a server where certain raids, events, etc just are not happening.
I agree with you mostly. But as someone who prefers as little social interaction as possible in my MMOs, and preferring to only play with one or two close friends, a mostly deserted space where we can do what we want without having to worry about the 500 player guild swarming us sounds pretty good.
All the things they promise still sound way too ambitious to come true. I'll wait paitently and see how they will deliver in the end, whenever that will be or at all in my lifetime lol

No, we don't. They're doing it the correct way: encouraging MEANINGFUL pvp and punishing no-life asshats who just mindlessly gank. If you get your jollies solely by jumping whatever lone person you see just so you can get an ego boost, then go ahead and find something else. This game isn't intended for you.

I set WoW vanilla as an example, when I get annoyed by the walking, by the time investment on leveling up professions, and other things, and on top of that i have to remember i am paying 15 dollars a month, it just feels stressful. Mind you 15 dollars for me, for my country's coin, feels like paying 50 dollars. Currently playing a wow private server and it feels so nice not having my credit card in mind. I feel I can just relax and take my time.
Box cost and expansions always, I rarely play any f2p games - why pay £15 or so a month for access to a game.. they already have a cash shop for cosmetics, why the need for a sub?
It will never release. After release is when crowd funded games open themselves up to law suits from the people who bought in. So they perpetually remain nothing games, with 20 alphas, infinite betas etc.
I feel like this game is looking to hardcore for 2024. Classic WoW did OK because of it simply being WoW. At this point its kind of dead. I could see this getting maybe 200k players for a month, and then prob dying off like Lost Ark. Hopefully Im wrong. Finally, I guarantee they will add a Global AH within 6 months after people bitch and quit.

It will definitely scare off the young instant gratification types but it could get hyped enough to make it into the mainstream scene (probably not but who knows) Remember how hard Elden Ring was for most people and it was a huge success
I do not accept cosmetics in a subscription game. I don't want to see a circus with people running around like clowns from overly flashy gear and mounts cause it reminds me of wow and i have PTSD from that abomination of a game it has become. Flashy gear needs to be EARNED orelse it won't matter
With WoW doing it, everyone will do it. If the staple game is doing it, there's no reason for them to not. All they have to do is point and say look. It's the sad, unfortunate truth. Either way, $120 for an alpha tester slot is insane. Not to mention the fact alpha 2 was supposed to be the persistent one too, so I'm good on this now.
I love the idea of cosmetics to help finance a game and continued development. I do request an option to toggle on/off seeing peoples cosmetics, though.
i havent watched the whole video yet.. but you said "open world pvp".. hope we can turn this off, or have servers without it.. because if it's anything like Albion online.. that's going to push a lot of people away, as it's going to eliminate solo play progression.
It is always on. There are things in place to prevent grieving and ganking. Lawless zones exist for no penalty pvp. The game has in grained pvp for those who want to pvp within a certain parameter. Pvp outside of the in grained and lawless zones is more on a basis of if someone has access to a material or whatnot you think/know they have or something along those lines. They don't want and hopefully won't have a gankbox
13:45 mehh wont be playing if ganking other people is as penalizing as this. I can understand this system for corpse farming low levels for no reason sure. But not for killing similar levels even if it's just for fun. Also getting penalized because your opponent isn't fighting back is the most stupid thing ever. So I'm getting penalized because my opponent is a pussy or afk? 🤦
@@Jetchi It's simple, new players aren't max level yet, they are still leveling which takes a while I believe. So naturally these players are protected from getting ganked by sweaty max level andy's. On top of that they could implement a system where fresh max level players are still protected for an X amount of time. So they have time to gear up. Add a little icon next to their name so you can see they're protected. This icon would also appear on people who are much lower level than you and would also give you corruption. Or (Dishonorable kill) as they call it on wow. I've played WoW for years and you could freely gank anyone you wanted. It's not that bad as you think it is. Also the further you travel from your base/note/capital or whatever it's called in this game. The more dangerous it should become. So the further you travel the less protection you get aka higher level players are able to PK you without getting corruption. Similar as in WoW where you are protected in capitals or hubs, or Runescape where you're safe outside of the wilderness and the deeper you get into the wilderness the bigger the level gap will be where players are able to attack each other. The world should feel dangerous and yes there will be better geared players and higher level players who will clap the shit out of you. Such is life. That's fun and causes drama. This will only encourages you to level up and get better gear. That's what an mmo should strive to be. There's nothing fun about a game holding your hand, protecting you like a little baby all the time. If you're afraid of getting ganked by other people you shouldn't be playing an mmo. That's what singleplayer or co op games are for. I just came up with this in like 3 minutes. I'm sure a whole team of 200 people can do better than this over penalizing corruption shit.
Yea I’m thinking / hoping pk penalties of killing an enemy of same level isn’t too harsh, but that killing ppl dramatically lower is insanely punishing personally
@@Nyce-Gaming When I was a kid playing RS and WoW I've always looked up to people that were higher level and had better gear. Even getting chased after and killed by higher levels had my adrenaline going. You feel like a deer being chased by lions but that's what makes it so good, you want to become that lion yourself. Killing a low level once shouldn't even penalize you imo. The only thing that should be prevented is literally corpse camping someone especially a low level who can't do anything back.
I get what you’re saying. You wanna have the option , once you’ve had your lvling and a bit of gearing done, to go out in high LvL areas and create some conflict. Mess about with your friend against potential enemies that will guarantee you an hour or two of open world PvP with the reward of just being … a “flagger” . DUDE, although I don’t do that much in games and I don’t really like it when it happens to me, when I played Lineage 2 (C3) in my teens, those open world conflicts that was happening between Clans and alliances in high LvL zones , were T H E Absolute BEST! That’s how you create a legendary reputation within the server/realm . Having people farming in those areas and thinking “They might jump us any moment now and take our spot” and when you do that and take the spot, you yourself have in mind that they will come for you in greater numbers in a bit . “Oh NO , they brought THAT guy? Pfff” . Anyway, sry for the long reply, idk if any1 reads this but I HAD to acknowledge your comment and speak my mind . Cheers, HF

In it's core if you want 100% progress, yes, but PvE players will get a story, quests, crafting and so on. A 100% pvp game doesn't need this content, it only needs a player, equal gear for everybody and suitable maps. Login, pvp, logout - that's a 100% pvp game. An PvX MMO, like AoC, is different to that, so imo it's not a 100% pvp game and anyhow this won't work, as a massive amount of players love pve so this content has also to be adressed.
It is PvX, meaning that the building and destruction of the world is done through both. PvE is a integral aspect and can not be ignored, even by hardcore PvPers and vice versa. It is a feedback loop where both sides feed off of each other. Neither is a irrelevant side-activity that was lazily thrown onto the game systems.
@@drooskie9525 They use the term they made up PVX because all PVP only MMO's fail. So it is a term they are trying to avoid. Anytime you have a game that does not allow you to turn off or not have to participate in PVP, it is a PVP game. Yes. There is PVE. But. Not being able to avoid PVP, turns PVE into PVP.
@@Fydril I don't know of any PvP only MMO's, but there is "PvP-Centric" mmo's and AoC will fall under that. Such games have not ever "failed", at least on that basis alone. But just because there's pvp doesn't suddenly nullify the fact there's PvE content (and the fact its mandatory to engage with). The whole point of AoC is to have risk, and without risk, the game deteriorates in experience over time. The best content is one created by the players.
feels like early 2000 nostalgia with nowadays tech.. gameplay looks fun, but systems (no lfg, no trading post? what?) after playing modern games feels like not respecting player time. wonder if ppl that played mmos 20years ago got time for that nonsense now, or if younger generation is interested in chat spamming, local trade and pk greifing...

@@Nyce-Gaming i mean, i used to play hardcore pvx mmos 6-8h+ in my teens/early 20s, dont see myself doin anything like that now. As 30+ with job and family, i prefer games that are pure entertainment and respect my time - where i can jump in and out without missing much (like gw2), while AoC gameplay looks fun, seems like it may be more like a 2nd life/job kinda title. And most adults cant afford to play multiple hours a day. Well, without p2w it may end up alive longer than archeage...
I’ve spent over 500$ on this game so I’m bought in and ready to test however I completely understand people not being happy with this. In a normal alpha you don’t buy in and it normally last a weekend in may this will be persistent. I’m only playing in October to take notes and I will be more than brutal with them on the forums. If you think it’s to much and think it’s a scam don’t play I get it I stopped playing star citizen for the same reason. If this turns into a star citizen thing I’ll do the same.

I‘ve been watching AoC since the beginning, but not with focus.
Ive been playing MMOs since DAoC/WoW, from all I‘ve played (really a lot / nearly all) I like(d) WoW, GW2 and ESO best. NW was ok until „endgame“.
For Ashes I‘m not hyped, but I‘m MMO hungry, although I‘m bit older meanwhile and thus I fear that for time-casuals (because I know how to play, but lack time) AoC will be the wrong target group :-( A lot of mechanics and features let me think, oh man, a lot (too much) of time invest needed.. lets see what the next months will show us.

Im going to give it two months until everyone is crammed on just a few servers, and then they have to completely change how the game works. No one is going to want to play on a server where certain raids, events, etc just are not happening.
I agree with you mostly. But as someone who prefers as little social interaction as possible in my MMOs, and preferring to only play with one or two close friends, a mostly deserted space where we can do what we want without having to worry about the 500 player guild swarming us sounds pretty good.
All the things they promise still sound way too ambitious to come true. I'll wait paitently and see how they will deliver in the end, whenever that will be or at all in my lifetime lol
We need a PK freebie like once every two hours or something. Who the hell is going to want to do any kind of random open world pvp the way it is.

No, we don't. They're doing it the correct way: encouraging MEANINGFUL pvp and punishing no-life asshats who just mindlessly gank.
If you get your jollies solely by jumping whatever lone person you see just so you can get an ego boost, then go ahead and find something else. This game isn't intended for you.
As far as I see, there is plenty of corruption free zones. So don't PK it city. Just be an outlaw somewhere in the woods, PKing travellers
They really need to just change TANK to some other shield class name. Warrior, Protector, Defender, Sentinel, Guarder, Basher, Shielder, Hoplite, etc.

I set WoW vanilla as an example, when I get annoyed by the walking, by the time investment on leveling up professions, and other things, and on top of that i have to remember i am paying 15 dollars a month, it just feels stressful. Mind you 15 dollars for me, for my country's coin, feels like paying 50 dollars.
Currently playing a wow private server and it feels so nice not having my credit card in mind. I feel I can just relax and take my time.

Box cost and expansions always, I rarely play any f2p games - why pay £15 or so a month for access to a game.. they already have a cash shop for cosmetics, why the need for a sub?

It will never release. After release is when crowd funded games open themselves up to law suits from the people who bought in. So they perpetually remain nothing games, with 20 alphas, infinite betas etc.
The only thing you need to know is that this game is never going to release. But do have fun wasting your time away in another "alpha". Lmao.

I feel like this game is looking to hardcore for 2024. Classic WoW did OK because of it simply being WoW. At this point its kind of dead. I could see this getting maybe 200k players for a month, and then prob dying off like Lost Ark. Hopefully Im wrong. Finally, I guarantee they will add a Global AH within 6 months after people bitch and quit.

@@Nyce-Gaming Yes and no. The sad truth is most "gamers" are lazy. They may all say they want something new, but they also aren't going to want to put in all the work that makes it unique.
It will definitely scare off the young instant gratification types but it could get hyped enough to make it into the mainstream scene (probably not but who knows) Remember how hard Elden Ring was for most people and it was a huge success
I do not accept cosmetics in a subscription game. I don't want to see a circus with people running around like clowns from overly flashy gear and mounts cause it reminds me of wow and i have PTSD from that abomination of a game it has become. Flashy gear needs to be EARNED orelse it won't matter
Earned gear will be as good and even better than the paid for cosmetics as they have stated numerous times

With WoW doing it, everyone will do it. If the staple game is doing it, there's no reason for them to not. All they have to do is point and say look. It's the sad, unfortunate truth.
Either way, $120 for an alpha tester slot is insane. Not to mention the fact alpha 2 was supposed to be the persistent one too, so I'm good on this now.
I love the idea of cosmetics to help finance a game and continued development. I do request an option to toggle on/off seeing peoples cosmetics, though.
Alpha 2 then alpha 3 then alpha 4 then alpha 8 then omega 1 then alpha 6. This game aint releasing lol

i havent watched the whole video yet.. but you said "open world pvp".. hope we can turn this off, or have servers without it.. because if it's anything like Albion online.. that's going to push a lot of people away, as it's going to eliminate solo play progression.
It is always on. There are things in place to prevent grieving and ganking. Lawless zones exist for no penalty pvp. The game has in grained pvp for those who want to pvp within a certain parameter. Pvp outside of the in grained and lawless zones is more on a basis of if someone has access to a material or whatnot you think/know they have or something along those lines. They don't want and hopefully won't have a gankbox

13:45 mehh wont be playing if ganking other people is as penalizing as this. I can understand this system for corpse farming low levels for no reason sure. But not for killing similar levels even if it's just for fun. Also getting penalized because your opponent isn't fighting back is the most stupid thing ever. So I'm getting penalized because my opponent is a pussy or afk? 🤦
well what systems would you implement to avoid a gank box that destroys the game for new players.
@@Jetchi It's simple, new players aren't max level yet, they are still leveling which takes a while I believe. So naturally these players are protected from getting ganked by sweaty max level andy's.
On top of that they could implement a system where fresh max level players are still protected for an X amount of time. So they have time to gear up.
Add a little icon next to their name so you can see they're protected. This icon would also appear on people who are much lower level than you and would also give you corruption. Or (Dishonorable kill) as they call it on wow.
I've played WoW for years and you could freely gank anyone you wanted. It's not that bad as you think it is.
Also the further you travel from your base/note/capital or whatever it's called in this game. The more dangerous it should become. So the further you travel the less protection you get aka higher level players are able to PK you without getting corruption. Similar as in WoW where you are protected in capitals or hubs, or Runescape where you're safe outside of the wilderness and the deeper you get into the wilderness the bigger the level gap will be where players are able to attack each other.
The world should feel dangerous and yes there will be better geared players and higher level players who will clap the shit out of you. Such is life. That's fun and causes drama. This will only encourages you to level up and get better gear. That's what an mmo should strive to be.
There's nothing fun about a game holding your hand, protecting you like a little baby all the time. If you're afraid of getting ganked by other people you shouldn't be playing an mmo. That's what singleplayer or co op games are for.
I just came up with this in like 3 minutes. I'm sure a whole team of 200 people can do better than this over penalizing corruption shit.
Yea I’m thinking / hoping pk penalties of killing an enemy of same level isn’t too harsh, but that killing ppl dramatically lower is insanely punishing personally
@@Nyce-Gaming When I was a kid playing RS and WoW I've always looked up to people that were higher level and had better gear. Even getting chased after and killed by higher levels had my adrenaline going. You feel like a deer being chased by lions but that's what makes it so good, you want to become that lion yourself. Killing a low level once shouldn't even penalize you imo. The only thing that should be prevented is literally corpse camping someone especially a low level who can't do anything back.
I get what you’re saying. You wanna have the option , once you’ve had your lvling and a bit of gearing done, to go out in high LvL areas and create some conflict. Mess about with your friend against potential enemies that will guarantee you an hour or two of open world PvP with the reward of just being … a “flagger” . DUDE, although I don’t do that much in games and I don’t really like it when it happens to me, when I played Lineage 2 (C3) in my teens, those open world conflicts that was happening between Clans and alliances in high LvL zones , were T H E Absolute BEST! That’s how you create a legendary reputation within the server/realm . Having people farming in those areas and thinking “They might jump us any moment now and take our spot” and when you do that and take the spot, you yourself have in mind that they will come for you in greater numbers in a bit . “Oh NO , they brought THAT guy? Why do you even mention pve? It is not a pve game. It is 100% a pvp game.
In it's core if you want 100% progress, yes, but PvE players will get a story, quests, crafting and so on. A 100% pvp game doesn't need this content, it only needs a player, equal gear for everybody and suitable maps. Login, pvp, logout - that's a 100% pvp game. An PvX MMO, like AoC, is different to that, so imo it's not a 100% pvp game and anyhow this won't work, as a massive amount of players love pve so this content has also to be adressed.
It's pvx
It is PvX, meaning that the building and destruction of the world is done through both. PvE is a integral aspect and can not be ignored, even by hardcore PvPers and vice versa. It is a feedback loop where both sides feed off of each other. Neither is a irrelevant side-activity that was lazily thrown onto the game systems.

Anytime you have a game that does not allow you to turn off or not have to participate in PVP, it is a PVP game. Yes. There is PVE. But. Not being able to avoid PVP, turns PVE into PVP.
@@Fydril I don't know of any PvP only MMO's, but there is "PvP-Centric" mmo's and AoC will fall under that. Such games have not ever "failed", at least on that basis alone.
But just because there's pvp doesn't suddenly nullify the fact there's PvE content (and the fact its mandatory to engage with). The whole point of AoC is to have risk, and without risk, the game deteriorates in experience over time. The best content is one created by the players.
feels like early 2000 nostalgia with nowadays tech.. gameplay looks fun, but systems (no lfg, no trading post? what?) after playing modern games feels like not respecting player time. wonder if ppl that played mmos 20years ago got time for that nonsense now, or if younger generation is interested in chat spamming, local trade and pk greifing...

@@Nyce-Gaming i mean, i used to play hardcore pvx mmos 6-8h+ in my teens/early 20s, dont see myself doin anything like that now. As 30+ with job and family, i prefer games that are pure entertainment and respect my time - where i can jump in and out without missing much (like gw2), while AoC gameplay looks fun, seems like it may be more like a 2nd life/job kinda title. And most adults cant afford to play multiple hours a day. Well, without p2w it may end up alive longer than archeage...
I’ve spent over 500$ on this game so I’m bought in and ready to test however I completely understand people not being happy with this. In a normal alpha you don’t buy in and it normally last a weekend in may this will be persistent. I’m only playing in October to take notes and I will be more than brutal with them on the forums. If you think it’s to much and think it’s a scam don’t play I get it I stopped playing star citizen for the same reason. If this turns into a star citizen thing I’ll do the same.
