It's cause he was never meant to become Sammy, he was supposed to just be an extra but they had to introduce a character to replace Charlie when the actor left.
It's funny how the leaders like the guardian and ram were evil and ruthless yet their lieutenant (Luke)/commander (Jay) both had a kind and sympathetic side to them and even though they were loyal, obeyed their leaders, deep down they didn't always agree with their actions.
yeah but at the same time Luke and Jay could be pretty ruthless as well. People seem to forget that. They have a softer side, but they are not ''GOOD'' like Amber and Bray are. At least not at first. Luke and Jay both grow and devolp and grow kinder and softer, but when they pop up, the early part of their introduction seasons they are pretty arrogant and seem to feel little shame or regret or guilt for what they did. Jay doesn't seem botherd at first byt the fact they invaded a city and kidnapped people and put them up for slavery. He only seems to devolp a real concious about it later. Luke likewise fully came across as believing in the Zoot cause. he just realised the guardian was crazy eventualy. But if the guardian had been a collected sane ish dude, I doubt Luke would have turned on him. They are good compared to their bosses, and have good intentions and good in them for sure, but they are by no means misunderstood sweet puppies. Especialy not in the first halves if their introduction season. Meanwhile, Ironicly even Ram has a good side to him. All the tecno's do. S5 and books can show this. Java is probably the most ''evil'' one but she has some good reasons if you know her history and even she shows she's capable of loving and such. Similar to Ebony really. The only bad guy who seems to be 100% unredeemable so far is Jaffa the guardian, even if only because he's (half) mad which doesn't allow much room for character growth.
Elli fully tried to commit murder (twice!) and everyone is just like "it's okay, we understand". haha Let's be honest, if she tried to kill anyone else other than Ebony, people would be a lot less forgiving.
Bad things Ebony's done post virus: -Took Dal and Sasha as slaves -Rigged the dance competition -Attempted to kill Taisan -Led Trudy to the Guardian -Told Amber that she was having Brays baby -Didn't reveal Ned's secret -Money hording -Banished Amber and Bray Good things Ebony's done post virus: -Saved the mallrats from tribe circus -Functioned as a good joint leader to Bray in season 2 -Trusted Patsy when she said the mallrats were in trouble and went to help -Gave Alice a new job and helped her get some relief from Taisan and Lex -Saved Bray and Lex -Saved Luke's life -Gave Luke a new purpose -Tried to have the guardian killed (in my opinion good since he's a mass murderer and slaver) -Considerate of public opinion and desires (the mallrats tried to keep power with the antidote and by lording the fact that they had the guardian over the rest of the city. Ebony actually considers what the rest of the city wants which is why they're willing to listen) She's done more good than bad. Salene is such an enabler. They used the ill excuse on the guardian too and he happily killed someone else when he escaped. It's not okay to attempt to kill the guardian but it's okay to attempt to kill Ebony who definitely wasn't as bad? And Ebony became leader because the tribe wanted her to go for leader at the time. It was her or Moz. Ellie knows right and wrong and she choose wrong. The expectation for Ebony to take on a tribe of advanced technology, go to a gun fight with a knife at best, is ludicrous. The hypocrisy just makes me scoff. Amber or Bray would never try to lead a death charge against the technos and if Ebony did, they'd be blaming her for more people dying or getting captured. The girl can't win. And Jay getting mad at her for willing to shoot someone who tried to kill her twice? Really?
This is whack take. "Saving the Mallrats from Tribe Circus". She did that to get the antidote, not because she wanted to save them. Ebony's a complete sociapath. I'd have liked her to get some form of redemption but as far as the TV Series goes she never does ***SERIES 5 SPOILER BELOW** She pushes a pregnant woman in front of a moving truck. (That pretty much sums up Ebony's character) Doing some good things does not absolve her of the countless evil things she's done, like selling a mother and a baby into captivity, attempting to kill people, rigging elections, selling her friends out.. Doing only what is only for her own benefit all the time.

She's always been a trash character. When she was with Jack, she would constantly flirt with other guys, then she cheated on him and wouldn't even tell him that she was with Luke. She was whiny and unpleasant towards Luke and towards Alice who told her off twice. Alice: I'm starting not to feel sorry for Jack anymore since now he's away from you" Then Jack returns and she acts like him being there is an inconvenience and puts it on him to make her feel less guilty. Now she's a murderer. She's a terrible person. It's a shame she doesn't get deleted.
