Working Model of Stephenson's STEAM ENGINE made of GLASS ! Rare!

- Highlights:
* The crankshaft is glass. The piston is glass. The counterweight that makes the wheel spin evenly is glass. Imagine that everything is made out of glass.
* There are no sealants used. All is accomplished by a perfectly snug fit. The gap between the piston and its compartment is so small, that the water that condensates from the steam seals it shut!
* Notice the elaborate excessive steam exhaust system next to the piston.
* The piston is the most arduous part to make due to to extreme level of precision needed. Its parts have to be so accurate that no machinery is of use here. The piston and its cylinder must be hand sanded to perfection, and they are very likely to crack in the process! On average, three out of four crack.
This Model of Stephenson's Steam Engine was made in 2008 by master glassblower Michal Zahradník.

"Master glass blower" sort of an understatement! That is one amazing bit of work.
God tier glassblower it is.
@@boooju here is the guy ua-cam.com/video/pI90-S3egc8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Sklozam
It leaks tho
master glass blower is good enough IMO.
ok, this really is a video that makes it really weird to dislike. Why would 70 people dislike a darn steam engine video?
"AAAARGH!!! DARN STEAM ENGINES ARE DRIVIN' MY HORSE BREEDIN' BUSINIUSS OUT OF BUSNINESSSDFD!!!"
Maplebaconz Maybe they thought the annoying music would last until the end.
Maplebaconz There are a lot of folks that dislike anything that reminds them of the efficacy and power of science... so they click the dislike button not realising they are using the internet... another example of such efficacy. Its a weird world we live in alright.
It might be because the title is a bit misleading - there's really no such thing as a 'Stephenson steam engine'. He of course designed a famous locomotive, the Rocket, which did work on steam but was not really much like this. Some people (normally me included) are pretty irritated by what they see as clickbait titles - in this case I suppose it's just a language thing and there's no attempt to mislead. And the engine, of course, is really cool. For the avoidance of doubt, I'm a liker, not a disliker.
Probably the title. It's kind of like a tacky Craigslist ad with "rare!" Interjected at the end
People dislike so UA-cam don't send this type of video to them People like and dislike whatever
as a guy with a 45 year glass career, offhand glassblowing mostly ,
lots of lamp/flame work
EXCELLENT ! job !

@Mr Sunshines wow, you are a rude and horrible person. That's fact based solely on your behavior.
Yeah i have been bending glass makeing neon signs for 20 and this is awesome
I felt like that should have shattered at any moment.
I wasn't too worried since it's meant to be ran.
Same here, especially with the loud "clacking" noises that it made every time the piston/valves met their limit. Even the hardest of glass doesn't take kindly to percussive force like that.
@@CaliPepper he meant about that it is made of glass and brittle.
True

I used to be a boiler technician in the Navy & this is amazing, especially being made in glass.
Amazing bud.. I'm one too

Most jewel than a product of engineering. Amazing
I saw a cam girl using something like this once
That was my neighbor 😁
I know that video from my studies too
@Charlie D 👍👍 not bad!
Lmao I saw that too, a cheap automatic dildo machine, I gotta appluad her smartness!
this transparent piston is amusing 🤣
What an excellent bit of engineering/craftwork, the work of a very patient man, please ignore the dislikers, regards Doc Cox.
Retired physics professor, outstanding!!! Every physics 101 classroom should have one of these! Beyond being inspiring there are a wealth of principles here right down to the atomic scale!!

nobody nothing?
so everyone everything?
Now that is cool! Also incredible craftsmanship. Making an engine out of glass is pretty hard.
Would be nice to own one for fun.
Thank you to show us this wonderful way, using glass instruments, really very difficult.
There's some amazing talented people out there.
How genius !! II seldom watched such a beautiful invention made in glass. Amazing, just amazing!!!! Symbol of precision and faith in one's imaginative prowess. Hats off to you Sir!!
I go to say that's one of the best things I've seen on UA-cam as to make it all out of glass and works amazing
This is seriously cool on so many levels!
Not only to blow the glass pieces for this, but to also create this fully functioning engineering marvel!! Brings a tear of joy to my eye I must say :’)
Can you imagine dropping this right before you get to the science fair?
amazing craftsmanship right here!
What an absolutely wonderful gadget. A true artist made this.
What a neat work of art. I like that blow off valve for when the boiler gets low. If you put denatured alcohol in the fuel holder, you won't get any carbon residue on your boiler.
It's both the coolest glass sculpture and mini-steam engine I've ever seen.
It's incredible. I love it. Such a tribute to an amazing craftsman.
too bad retards just want to smoke with it...
This was genius back in the day and needs to be treated with utmost respect.
as an engineer, I'm IN AWE about that glass craftsmanship
It's very cool to see how when each time the valve opens the sudden low pressure in the steam line causes the boiler water to suddenly flash boil.
Tks for the upload to Team - PhillForSale

Super....what a glassblower... Amazing...
Salute.
That was beautiful to watch!
extremelly well done.
So much help me to understand the concept of steam engine!!
Also Brilliant design.
unbelievable, totally awesome
nice demonstration of glass steam engine. very creative :)
Nice bong. I don't see how one would smoke it though.
it smoke for you
I think it's a concentrate peice :)
This is gold

Cool engine, but I can't even begin to comprehend how to make precise pieces out of glass.... Amazing skill and talent!
Amazing. I look back to 18th century.
Really beautiful...beyond words!
I was AFRAID it was going to break.
I love this....not just science but art as well.
This was an amazing demonstrative, thanks.
Thats some fine glassblowing right there. Brilliant!
someone has too much time on their hands. GOOD work thanks!

Heya
@Exodia Exodia Löops
That's the most impressive thing I've seen in a long while.
the real good thing about entropy is this one. i think this is an external combustion engine . it works on the difference in temperature but not with the heat. the heat causes expansion of the air which increases the temperature at the piston. the hot air creates a great difference in temperature when compared room temperature. this causes the piston to move causing mechanical motion. excellent glass work !great video. if anything wrong please let me know.
Great working model. I would be wondering when it was going to break though! How long can glass just keep taking a beating like that. Anyway awesome little steam engine.
yes, it would have a limited lifespan but I think the guy made it just to make it :-)
The low and high pressure side is awesome. Great engineering.
Michal Zahradnik...you are a genius.......
I like how you used a piece of someone’s bong for that top piece 😂👌🏻
hahaha thats what i thoguht
Cool video reminded of school many years ago, were we used to play with glass tubes and bunsen burners.
I like devices with clear casings but a glass engine that takes the biscuit!
Thank you for sharing it and what a way for your friend to show off his skills.
I hope you're working on a new project
this would be an awesome bong

Looking awesome... What a technology
And thus, the vibrator was invented.
That is the most awesome and amazing thing I have EVER seen!!
This is an art.
Wonderful engineering and artistry!
and that's why science wins.
Esteban Fernandez Science is a tool and a method, not a lifestyle
At this point 297 people dislike this interesting piece of art. If your one of the people who dislike this video. Please explain why as a response to my comment. I am curious.
The first piston engines were by Newcomen. James Watt later improved these to be double acting and to have a rotating output.
Stephenson invented a type of valve gear for the steam engine that was widely used in both stationary and locomotion engines right up until Steam was replaced by petrol.
people hit the dislike button cause they are hatefull. they are just people who didnt do anything with there life and want to try to cause pain to others. they are just miserable ,.....poor things. I feel bad for them... they have no kind of life.

Great work.
That was awesome! Everything should be made of glass from now on
Speaking as someone who doesn't actually know anything about glass, it's strength etc, this looks terrifying to run at speed lol. As a lover of steam however, this is a magnificent work of art!
We watched his video in school and everyone broke out laughing😂

One of the finest pieces made by man ( and hand blown at that ) I've ever seen. And I'm not just talking about blown glass, I'm talking about anything made by man.
Love it but PLEASE use some oil.
+ExtantFrodo2
I'm not sure why, but the the viscosity of oil on a glass-to-glass surface acts like a mud which slows things down, or even stops a machine. I've found the proper lubricant to be dry graphite --- the exact stuff found in a #1 or #2 wood pencil.

Okay.

No no no. Steam.
You must be a god to make it stable and make it work!
I would like to see a glass steam powered Steely Dan in action
I want this to power my exhaust fan while I'm blowing glass.
really loved it. awesome engine bro.
Now I've welded glass before but I honestly never imagined something like this could be built.
If you equipped the boiling chamber with a magnetron, which generate microwaves, connected to an electric system also connected with a flywheel, which generate the electric courrent that allow the magnetron functioning, will this gear improve the efficiency of Stephenson's machine, allowing a less energy dispersion??

Are you using any kind of lubricants to reduce friction on the moving joints or bushings?
Awesome craftsmanship!
Did you not watch the video or something? He tells you there aren't any bushings.
This is basically how a steam locomotive operates! Neat.
Wow...That's some good glassware!
I like how the over-pressure valve uses a bit of string.
Now it's time to add a clutch and transmission lol! This looks awesome! Well done!
É uma bela demonstração de arte e ciência...
Why does this video give me anxiety
Glass and crankshaft are two words that should not be put together in the same sentence.
because you have anxiety
Probably because at any moment it could have shattered into tiny little pieces, just violently explode into glass shards.
Unbelievably awesome, I'm on this.
Very good and very interesting.
It is very help full to students who are interested to study power generation systems.
As it is made from glass so students can see what is happening in side the parts.
Thanks to man for making good thing.
Well done highly appreciated.

What I REALLY want to see is the video showing how this was made. This takes phenomenal skill in many areas of understanding. It's really rare to see crossover excellence in many fields this plainly in 1 thing
Whoever made this had to have been smoking a lot of ganja.
Result of a big effort, . Beauty of making..
And then someone accidently knocked the table...
Very cool and made of glass a true craftsman
Thats a dope bong
This really is incredible craftsmanship
Great Work!
