Agreed, I think the design is just more fluid and cohesive. To me, the C8 looks like the front and rear were designed by two people collaborating over the phone.
@@odishoyounan It screams "we want Millenial and gen Z money" knowing the generation idolizes European supercars in comparison to older generations. Nothing against them at all for it, but GM definitely went all in chasing them.
I have a ('88) C4 and a ('03) C5. I also have a 96 Impala SS. I'm 71 and retired. I won't be buying any more cars. Of my three cars, the C5 is easily my favorite. It fits me like a glove and does everything exactly as I tell it to. Brakes and steering are spot on. The engine is so smooth and responsive. I love the fact that each cylinder has its own coil. No more distributor. The C5 still gets compliments from random people walking by.
Right on the mark. I loved my 99 C5. I added twin turbos which made it 525hp at the rear wheels. And way more fun than any other car I owned before or after. Modern cars with computer controlled everything bore me. I went with the silver base coupe and added z06 springs and rear brake cooling ducts. It was a real sleeper on the road and I regret selling it. I do like the looks of the C8 but it looks like a money pit to me. If I were shopping today, Id buy the C7. Im just not a lover of mid engine cars. If Im not tinkering on my cars, I lose interest in them. Strangely enough, Id take a c5 over c8 as well. Its nice that you have the option to have both. Motor on.
I got my 2002 C5 new and still have it. I've driven some of the newer ones, but none have convinced me to 'upgrade'. Each generation gets objectively better in many ways, but nothing feels like the C5. It may just be because I'm so used to it, but it just feels perfect ... I will add that it's also required very minimal repairs in 23 years and 140k miles. Can't say that about any of my others.
I don't own any Corvette but I totally get it. I think one thing you are getting at too is that the older some cars get the more rare they become. Some cars are like fine wine.
Been doing a lot of research to preface my 1st purchase of a C5Z. Your channel & a few others are guiding me along. Have to agree with the C5 being more of a drivers car vs being driven through all the advanced electronic sensors. The C5 has such a flowing body style while the C8 is sharp edged and very angular. The draw for me are the flip headlights, 6 speed manual and analog dash. Probably something to do with my age. I’m 83 & blessed.
Great video. My opinion on which one is best? C5. Without a doubt!! Honestly to clarify... Best car ever made: C5 and C1 Corvette, tie. Best car ever made to date.
The C5 is such a classic design, probably the best looking modern corvette. So low slung, great proportions, smooth curves, not overstylized or anything.
I just bought an 03 c5 Z06 I am surprised by the amount of people that drive over to it or walk over to it to take a look at a 21 yr old car. I've had a few times guys in their 20's want to take a good look and ask about the car. They cant believe it was designed back in the 20th century. True multi generational car Its been the most fun car to drive
Bought a 2003 Z06 new it immediately went to Lingenfelter’s for upgrades. Still have it today. So much fun to drive, we are one on the track. Bought a 2020 C8 Stingray new and tracked it a few times an kept wanting more power. Sold the C8 in 2023 because the fun factor was not great. The lack of torque is the biggest issue. Bought a CT5 Blackwing and it’s a ton of fun on the track and it’s an incredible road car. I worried about the lack of torque in the C8 Z06 as someone who grew up with big block Chevys.
You wanted comments from C5 and C8 owners , that’s me . I have a 2002 C5 Z51 I bought new and now 2 2024 C8s a Z51 and Z06. My outlook is to appreciate any car relative to its time period. It’s only fair . That’s said , as you discovered and I agree, the C5 is visceral driving experience . I have no plans to ever sell it. I’m blessed I can enjoy them all.
Nice objective comparison of your C5 vs C8 after having both for at least 2 years. Oh, have another cold one. My driving experience cover's from my 1st car, which was a 1965 Malibu / Chevelle SS, to my 2nd car a Dodge Challenger R/T 426 HEMI w/ 4spd. Pistol Grip & 4:10 DANA Posi rear end. Over the years since I graduated HS in 1973 I've mainly owned Camaro Z28's or Trans Am Firbirds. However, in 1973 I bought my 1st Corvette, a 1970 LT-1 as I entered the Military. Returning State Side in 1976 I bought a 1973 350 ci. Corvette, which I had for 2-3 years. Again I returned to, as I mentioned earlier, the Z28's & Trans Am's until 2001. That is the year I returned to Corvette with a 1987 Z51 model. Cracked block (L98) forced me to buy a new block and with the help of an engine builder (and Corvette guy) we purposely went with all after market parts for the build. Neting us a whopping 435 hp compared to the L98's 245 hp. Next was a 1995 Z51 w/ the LT-1 engine. Nice but not so nice as it needed lots of work and after all the money I spent on the '87 I wasn't going to go there. You may ask why? After just 1 year of ownership I ran across a 2000 Z51 w/ 6 spd. Four years later (and in March of 2024) the same broker had a 2003 Z06. So after having owned 6 Corvettes and many nice Z28's and Trans Am's the Vettes are the ones which I love driving the most. All of the Vettes had their own driving experience but the Z06 is now my favorite. BTW, on my UA-cam page you'll see a video of my 1987 Vette after the build. www.youtube.com/@GregorioLonewolf
I sat in a lot of cool cars and contemplated buying many cool cars but the C5 has a soul many cars lack these days. Its the car that connects so many dots. Nowerdays every car is developed to sound cool and pop loud but the C5 does all that naturally! I would have never thought that I truly love a car but the C5 does it for me. Its sexy, its fast enough to catch a ticket in 1st gear in some places, it has an iconic engine and you can have the car just how you want it.
I have a 02 C5z that is heavily modified I have had it for almost 7 years now. I also have a 16 C7z that’s is pretty much stock right now I have had it for a year. It’s hard to pick between the two but if I was forced to pick between the two I would go with the C5z just because I high school the C5z came out and fell in love like you. Always enjoy watching your content.
With so much time and money in my C5 Automatic convertible, I find myself nervous out in traffic. I got a 2000 Z28 with the T56 for more care free fun driving. Even if it's not as awesome as the C5
Stumbled across this channel at zero dark thirty this morning. Binge watching....looking for that LED conversion video. Made or on the books? Thanks for the work!
Good Video man enjoy your beer 🍺 I have a 2001 C5 Rag Top in Torch Red. It has a lot of cool upgrades that came with it. Better Brakes, Stereo with Bluetooth, exhaust etc. It's my second Corvette and I just LOVE driving it. It's an attention getter. My First one is an 18 GS, Z07 Heritage edition. Basically, it's a Z06 without the Blower. Just like you I refer to my C5 as my Analog one and the C7 is my digital one lol. And just like you, I'm always more careful in my C7 than the C5 Thanks for the video 😎
Have a Procharged C5 6spd and I’m considering getting a c8. Don’t think I’ll ever sell the c5 though at least not anytime soon. It just needs a widebody kit and she’s complete. She old but still gets compliments. The C8 looks fun as a daily though with all its creature comforts.
I agree with you, coming from the perspective of a '97 Viper GTS owner. The C8 is an awesome machine, the driving experience, for myself and myself alone, kind felt... synthetic??? ... I'm not sure if that even explains it. It's just different, in different ways. I don't know. But, I get where you're coming from.
Congratulations on the new house! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the garage. I have an 02 Electron Blue C5 Z06, a Pewter 02 Convertible and a 2024 Z51 Convertible…of them all I prefer the 02 Convertible…as much as I like the C8 the C5 is my favourite. I love the looks and bang for the buck.
I have a C4 and it’s such a blast to drive. Corsa exhaust upgrade and sounds great. I get it’s not a fast Vette, but it’s all about nostalgia for me. Growing up I probably had 20 plus versions of a C4 Corvette. Will one day add a C8 also!
I’ve owned C4,5,6,7, and now C8 1LT. I think C7 manual for me handles pretty well. 2023 C8 transmission maintenance sucks though. BTW congrats on your new house 👍
Love my C5Z! Viceral is the right word. I just tucked it away for the winter and am already looking forward to spring. Thanks for the great content and would like to see the install of the side drive garage door opener, if you've got time. 👍
Biggest mistake GM made when making the C8 was not having a manual transmission option. Even if it had cost more to equip a manual. Having a manual changes the dynamics of driving a car hard
Nothing beats a "beater" Corvette that is more in tune with the driver. The C5 was the last 100% driver Corvette. The last car that had something similar to it was the early 90s M3 and 3 series BMWs. You just know exactly where the breaking point is when driving them hard. They are perfectly predictable and raw.
I like Sam Adams too. I fully understand where you're coming from. I have an 04 LS1 Vette and to me it's the ultimate touring car. If I had a C8 it would stay in the garage a lot more. Good luck with the new house in the coming year and all my best wishes to your family.😊
I enjoyed my 07C6 Z06 when I wasn’t scared to death a valve would break off and destroy the motor. The new heads, transmission that died two months after I bought it, clutch, torque tube really made my decision to sell it easy.
I also own a c5 and c8. I say my c5 is my fast vette and my c8 is my quick one. The c8 makes an amazing daily in my opinion because of all the tech, comfort and the e-diff really helps you drive in damn near any weather without issue. My c5 however wants to rip your face off at all times, 720whp from a s/c forged 5.3 and a puck style clutch make it quite the experience. However, the c8 is still a much better car. The c8 is a much tamer experience because it is meant to be, and the c5 is exactly whatever you want to make it.
Thanks for the video. I always enjoy watching your channel. I’ve got a 2011 c6 coupe auto. I really like the paddles. The car is very easy on an old guy with bad knees. Keep up the good work.👍
I have always loved the C5 since I first saw it back in 97, driving around base when I was in the military. I own a C5 now, and the only thing I would change is the interior. I love the C6 interior and if there was a way to swap the interior that would be awesome, or if there was a way to put pop up lights on the C6 then I would buy it lol. Anyway, I personally don't like the C8. I feel like it's the child of a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. It's not a corvette to me. Yea, it's cool looking, but I personally wouldn't own one. I'll keep my C5 all day!
I’ve been lucky enough to have had 3 Corvettes (C5-C7). My C7 is the best car I’ve owned by far but I don’t think I’ll ever love it as much as my first Corvette, the C5. The dream is to keep my C7 and eventually get a C5 Z06 to complement it.
Got my first Vette (c4) when I was 26. 26 years later, I'm on my fifth Vette. Order: C4, C5, C6,C7 and now back to an incredible 03 Anniversary Edition Convertible C5. I guess going back to the C5 says a lot. My favorite so far.
The 03 Anniversary C5 in the colors it came in is amazing. I looked for one of those but in decent shape here in Canada though to find as well. I have had a 02 C5 black convertible 6 sp manual 46k miles now for over a year. It is an amazing car easy to repair and upgrade with the analog gauges is getting rare these days. I came from a 1989 C4 and as I did enjoy that car the C5 is such a better car is almost every way.
1st thing enjoy your beer. 2nd, I had a 2002 Z06. It was the most fun car to drive! I love the rawness of it. It's the only car I've had that would spin the tires at 63 mph! I currently drive a 2018 C7, but I've always wanted another C5 Z.
I've had a c8 for a year now and I agree whole-hartedly with you. I don't like that it "thinks" for me. I hate the square steering wheel and I keep wondering when something will go wrong. On the flip side it's a real rush to drive. Very powerful, very comfortable. I miss the crude, gut-levell feel of my ex-C7. I'm shopping for a C6 as I watch your video.
Smart man. You think the Eray is having problems now. Wait till the car goes out of warranty. Nightmare scenario owning a hybrid Corvette with no warranty.
You never once mentioned the C6 Z06. I think it's a huge step up from the C5. I own both the standard C6 and the Z06 and have not been compelled to upgrade by anything I have seen.
I'm keeping my LS7 also. I believe they are a beautiful timeless smooth looking piece of art, that breathes fire if wanted. My Atomic Orange machine is staying home. My home :-)
No way I'm getting rid of my C6. I've driven a C8, and was not that impressed, plus I just flat-out refuse to give up my manual. At first I was a hater when they got rid of the pop-ups, but deep down I understood why, and when I saw one in person, I fell in love with it. The bridge too far was when they got rid of the dual-round tail lights... that was almost like giving up a piece of the Corvette soul. And, as you said, I'm not afraid to go out and have fun in it... to me, it's a much better balanced car to kick around.
Hey Mark really enjoyed this video and can appreciate where you are coming from. I own a C8 and totally agree with you about always being cautious when driving, parking etc. really can/is annoying to me. I find myself sometimes questioning if I should drive it to certain places. All that said I have no regrets buying it. Again great video and drink as many beers as you want while making a vlog!!
i alllllllways say the c5 is my favorite. (i have worked for gm for 15 years) id say c6 zr1 is my all time favorite, but aside from that the c5 z06 is the best vette ever.
I remember growing up seeing this white c5 in a guys drive way I would pass it a couple times a day for years and I grew to look forward to seeing it and got so depressed when they moved 😢
2004 took my 2002 electron blue zo6 over 177 and climbing. Raced her all over my home area Daytona Beach. I was the first real owner here to track her. trust me made it to heaven with that baby. sold her to Sweeden after 100,00 miles
Not that I'd race anyone on the street, but since I got my C5Z two years ago, I've only had two people try to race me (a bike and an old Mazda3). My boss with her Mustang GT said she gets, at least, one person a day trying to race her.
I daily drive a Electron Blue 2002 zo6 Corvette. Ive drove my dads C8. And I still argue with my dad about how I would NEVER trade my c5z for his c8 if gave the option. C5 corvettes will always be my favorite.
I’ve had a C6Z for about a year. Really got the itch for a C5. Picked up a C5Z last weekend. I’ve only gotten to drive it a couple of times. But I’m leaning towards liking it more. I don’t know if it’s because it was 1/2 the cost of the C6 and I’m not so worried about tearing something up or just the feel of it. Between the two cars they have 31k on them. Hope to find the time to raise that up.
I can relate but from the Ford end. I traded a late model mustang for a solid axle gt500. Its more raw and no electric steering. I had a 94 camaro LT1 that is still my favorite though.
I get what your saying. I own a c8 z51 htc all black the most beautiful car. I don't own a c5 i never liked how they look but i own a 2000 trans am ws6 nhra edition that has the same ls1 as the c5. They are 2 different cars the trans am is more aggressive and more muscle car the c8 is as you said a luxury beauty that if you get on it feels like a ufo ship taking off. The c8 is all computers and if something goings wrong would be a nightmare while the older car if something goes wrong then something else will also go wrong then something else will go wrong as its over 20 years old. I love both of my cars but to say the trans am is my favorite is like having 2 girlfriends one being a normal order still pretty good looking lady and having a young 20 year old goddess with looks and body that any man would dream about having and saying thats not your favorite girl. After getting my c8 im not interested in any car as its the best i can imagine in everyway. But both good cars your video should have been titled which is more fun factor? because if c5 is your favorite why keep the c8 to throw money out the window?
How have you dealt with inspection on the C5 with the lazy eyes? I just picked up my C5 Z06 a month ago and hate the headlights even with LEDs. Knight Drive says they wont sell to Virginia because it won't pass inspection.
I had my car inspected 10 months ago and the shop gave me the business about the headlamps. I explained I was moving out of state (which was true) and am registering it as an antique soon so they cut me some slack. Now going forward with those with the sleepy eyes in Virginia it may get interesting. I would try to find an enthusiast shop that happens to do inspections as well. The ironic part is that the LEDs are much better & safer at night. #Bureaucracy
The C5 coefficient of drag is .29. The C8's coefficient of drag is significantly worse with all of the jagged edges and cooling ducts at .32. The C5 in many ways is simple, elegant, and timeless. The C8, well, not so much. It doesn't really carry forth the stylistic legacy and history of the mark - incorporating new technology and refinement in an evolutionary way like the C5 did. Instead, it's clearly a total departure functionally and stylistically. Stylistically, there's a little too much "Transformers" in the overall body shape of the C8. Functionally, the interior of the C8 is too cramped and claustrophobic with the center "mega arch" being the most significant ergonomic offender. The lack of manual shift option is probably another major functional gripe for most Corvette enthusiasts. But I'd go one step further. For the money, the C8 should have debuted with a 4WD option. Most of its direct competitors pulled that trick off years ago and if we really want to claim significant progress over the past 20 years, that feature should have been in the mix. (01 triple black convertible in my garage so I will admit, I'm biased)
I've driven a couple C8 Z06. Totally different car. I do not have Z06 money but I would probably always be worried about breaking it 😅. It definitely felt like a supercar and the vibration from the exhaust & flat plane was unreal (in a good way).
I had a C5 electron blue convertible with cashmere top. Most beautiful car I ever had. And reliable and fast as all get out. I wish I would’ve kept it although I’m eyeing a C8 now.
The C5 is a thing of beauty.

@@odishoyounan totally agree. The rear looks like a very lightly massaged Camaro. Aesthetics aside the c8 remains amazing bang for the buck.

I have a C4 and it’s such a blast to drive. Corsa exhaust upgrade and sounds great. I get it’s not a fast Vette, but it’s all about nostalgia for me. Growing up I probably had 20 plus versions of a C4 Corvette. Will one day add a C8 also!
Great comparison! Id love to have a C8, but only if i can keep my C6 GS
Love these kinds of videos, very enjoyable. C5 owner here
I’ve owned C4,5,6,7, and now C8 1LT. I think C7 manual for me handles pretty well. 2023 C8 transmission maintenance sucks though. BTW congrats on your new house 👍
Enjoyed your comments!👍
Love my C5Z! Viceral is the right word. I just tucked it away for the winter and am already looking forward to spring. Thanks for the great content and would like to see the install of the side drive garage door opener, if you've got time. 👍
Cheers have a beverage my friend 🍻
🍻
Thank you! 🫡
Keep up the good work.👍
Thanks man 👍🤙
1. C2
2. C5Z
3. C5
4. C6 LS3
5. The rest.
Love my C5 but miss that NPP on the C6.
I really love my 03 50th anniversary convertible as well. I have only had it about 10 months but it is a great car.
As owner of an 03 C5Z CHEERS!
Good video, sir. I especially like 1st hand reviews like this after the "shiny new toy" syndrome has had a chance to wear off.
You won’t regret getting a c6 I promise! Get a Grand Sport 😉 I know from personal experience
If you offered me a brand new C5 ZO6 or a brand new C8 base car, I would take the Z06 in a New York minute
C5 Zo6 all day!
Traded in my E-Ray for the 2025 ZO6.. E-Ray Was already having issues..I like the ZO6 Over the E-Ray anyday.. No E motors for me anymore..Thank you.👍🖖
Smart man. You think the Eray is having problems now. Wait till the car goes out of warranty. Nightmare scenario owning a hybrid Corvette with no warranty.
I would never buy electric.
@@michaelm3381 only thing i buy electric is appliances. electric has no place anywhere for cars, but many people follow the govt lead.
Your garage looks nice
You never once mentioned the C6 Z06. I think it's a huge step up from the C5. I own both the standard C6 and the Z06 and have not been compelled to upgrade by anything I have seen.
I'm keeping my LS7 also. I believe they are a beautiful timeless smooth looking piece of art, that breathes fire if wanted. My Atomic Orange machine is staying home. My home :-)
I prefer my c7z over c8z but the c8z sounds better and better to daily
My C9 is gonna be EPIC.
I’m saving to buy and customize the c5, and daily drive it and I’m so freaking excited
Just traded my '03 Z06 for a '23 3lt C8. Wish I could have kept it, and had both too, but not rich enough. Love the C8, but sure miss the Z06.
Hey 757 what are the best corvette meets in Williamsburg?
I own a 2001 zo6 but haven't really had time to drive it. I need to work on that a little harder. It has under 8,000. SMH...
I want a C8 but I want to purchase my first home before I get a sports car. Someone in my apartment has a C1 though and it still looks brand new!!!
Love the garage!!
What are your thoughts on the C8 Stingray compare to the C8 Z06? Is it worth the extra money for some one that wont take it on the track?
Not that I'd race anyone on the street, but since I got my C5Z two years ago, I've only had two people try to race me (a bike and an old Mazda3). My boss with her Mustang GT said she gets, at least, one person a day trying to race her.
the c5 z06 can be made into anything you want, and the curb weight is 3100 stock, no brainer if you dont have 100k to lay down
I daily drive a Electron Blue 2002 zo6 Corvette.
Agreed, well done.
Very interesting 🤔
But both good cars your video should have been titled which is more fun factor? because if c5 is your favorite why keep the c8 to throw money out the window?
something about those ws6's 😊
I need to find a c6 sheesh
Manual best, simple as
So does any other enthusiasts
Crazy
Same 1:44
That’s because the C8 is a Corvette in name only. It just doesn’t look or feel like corvette to me.
Manual... wins every time
F yeah 😅
You should sell the C8. And buy 3 more C5s. Drive them every other day. Your fear makes you baby the C8.
"...say..." ?
The C8 will not age well…where as the C5 has a classic look that will always look timeless
c5 is slow turd. c8 >> c5
Click bait lol
Don’t drive a C8 Z06.
