This is the best book of the Trilogy. I read the Elfstones when I was about 13 as it is more accessible at that age than the Lord of the rings. Elfstones has the journey, the elfstones, a love story, the grim reaper hunting them down. It really is fantastic. The twist at the end is a real surprise, a real shock.

I agree that this is the best of the trilogy. I would extend that and say that it is the best of all the Shannara novels. It is definitely my favorite of them all.

I agree fully with what you say that's why I decided to read the book on youtube for people who have watched it on tv and not read it so they can experience the true story and characters, for me Stee Jans is the Man!

It would be interesting to have Terry Brooks write his story. I would definitely read that.

I think the Shannara TV show was on MTV not HBO as you mentioned. And I too lost interest in it since they basically didn't follow the book that much from the beginning at least from the ones I watched as well. I'm into the Heritage of Shannara series now and have read the Sword of Shannara series and I too agree that this is by far the best one so far.

I didn't remember which network it was that broadcast it. It probably was MTV. All I can say is that it was awful. I understand that sometimes changes and cuts are necessary to move from one medium to another, but it should enhance the story, not ruin it. Too many directors feel the need to leave their mark on the story. They don't understand that the biggest mark they could put on the movie or TV series would be to adapt the source material faithfully. The fans would practically worship a director who did that.
