In the original movie, at the big party at the end Anakin was played by the actor you saw when the helmet was removed. In this doctored version, they used the actor who played Anakin in episodes 1, 2, and 3. It makes no sense. Obiwan and Yoda are the ages they were when they died. Why should Anakin suddenly be young? Plus up to this point you have not seen this actor so have no idea who he is.

Glad you warmed up to Leia. As for the growing up, Carrie Fisher was 19 when she shot the first one and Mark Hamill was in his mid-20s. They shot this one six years later, so good observation.
Also, when you start the prequels, I recommend putting the captions on for the first 10 minutes of Episode 1. There's a line near the beginning that so many reactors miss that places the movie in the Star Wars timeline right away.

My story about watching this for the first time as a teenager, in the film's first run:
_A long time ago, in a movie theater about 30 blocks from here ..._
Unlike _A New Hope_ where I saw the film in a Cinerama theater, I saw _Return of the Jedi_ at the Stuart (now Roccoco) Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was one of those Grand Dame theaters: originally built for live theater, symphony orchestra, and touring companies.
In 1943, the Stuart was converted to solely a movie theater and run by Paramount Pictures. At the same time, the backstage area was sold and turned into a theater-themed nightclub, Barrymore's, which also still exists today.
The Stuart Theater occupied six floors in the 13-story building Stuart Building. Seating capacity was 1,850, including two balconies. She had a beamed and panel designed ceiling and six chandeliers. The interior walls were of stone and terra cotta. Faux gold inlays lined _everything_ .
She was a beautiful sight to behold. For _Return of the Jedi_ it was packed. Unlike my first screening of _A New Hope_ , in which I'd had the good bad luck to sit in the center seat of row one, that seat was already taken for _Jedi_ .
I sat in the second balcony with some friends. This also turned out to be good bad luck, but for different reasons.
_A year before this movie, in the halls of my High School ..._
It was a few days before graduation. I was a Senior and eager to leave High School behind me. They were having a school assembly for honors students at which Nebraska's Governor was to speak.
As I had absolutely nothing to do but sit in the auditorium for the next two hours, I decided to ditch school and go to the Stuart Theater. They'd just installed a bangin' new sound system and were having free screenings of _The Jazz Singer_ . Not the famous first one, the crappy re-make in the 1980s. No, don't react to it.
I was walking down the halls clearly headed for the school's main exit when who should be walking towards me but the Principal, two Vice-Principals, and the Governor.
I figured my goose was cooked since the Principal and his Vices knew perfectly well where I was supposed to be -- and that wasn't headed toward the main exit.
What I'd failed to consider is that the Principal and his Vices admonishing me to get back in the auditorium would be embarrassing for them in front of the Governor. Instead, I got a hello and several dirty looks. But who cares, I was graduating in a few days. What were they going to do, put me in detention?
In any case, I got to hear the the Stuart's new sound system, and it was indeed bangin'.
_Meanwhile, back at Return of the Jedi ..._
There I was in the second balcony, and my good back luck came courtesy of the Stuart's bangin' new sound system.
That orchestra and Maestro Williams' music in a theater that size was _awesome_ . The entire theater shook and vibrated with every note.
But the real shocker came with one single line, Jabba's first:
    " *Bo shudda.* "
Holy crap! The bass in that line was so low that the theater simply rumbled. The building itself shook from the bass. It gave Jabba a menacing quality that is gone when you watch it on a stream.
" *Bo shudda.* " I'll never forget it.

Part of what made Darth Vader work so well was the *combination* of actors that comprised the role. David Prowse was physically in the suit. The actor whose face we see is Sebastian Shaw. The voice is James Earl Jones. Finally, the breathing/rasping sounds were created by the audio team. While J.E.J. gets all the recognition as the voice, it really took a team to create the iconic role.

That gold bikini costume is popularly known as "Slave Leia," because, well, she was Jabba's slave, chained up.
But in recent years, I've heard it referred to as "Hutt-slayer Leia," in honor of her choking that slimy gangster to death. I find that title much more apropos of Leia's bad-ass self.
P.S. I loved how you said Han hadn't seen her in her bikini, and he'd fall in love all over again. LOL! I never thought about how we never get a reaction shot of Han seeing Leia that way; his vision is still recovering..

There were a few other things added that shouldn't have been, such as Hayden Christensen at the end, or Vader shouting "Noooo...". In my opinion, they diminished things a bit. However, they did make some GOOD changes. Removing Vader's eyebrows is something trivial that actually needed doing. The galactic celebrations were nice, but kind of unrealistic... how would the whole galaxy know what happened so fast?
Mehh, just my own bias, I suppose.

Going into Ep.1, keep in mind that it takes place before the Empire, so there's no Rebel Alliance and no Emperor yet. The ruling government is the Republic, which has a representative senate made up of delegates from every planet. The leader of the senate is the Supreme Chancellor, kind of like the President or Prime Minister of the whole galaxy. There is no military because there's been peace for a thousand years. Instead, the peace is kept by the Jedi Knights. The Jedi Order serves the Republic but it exists apart from it with its own traditions and rules. Centuries before, the Jedi wiped out their ancient enemies, the Dark Lords of the Sith.
However, by the time of Ep.1, the senate has become corrupt and wealthy corporations have a lot of influence in government. One of these is the Trade Federation, who appear to be the main villains of the next movie. But they are secretly in league with a familiar shadowy figure who is pulling the strings from behind the scenes, and whose existence even the Jedi are not aware of.
Some of this stuff is not explained very clearly and can pull you out of the movie. You may find it helpful to know some of this stuff going in.

I'm guessing by now you've been told the little teddy bears are Ewoks. I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but the first Ewok you see that befriends Leia is called Wicket, and played by Hollywood legend Warwick Davies who's been in tons of blockbuster movies, including the Harry Potter films. In the original release, the person we saw as a ghost was the same guy we saw when Luke took his mask off. But after the prequel trilogy was made, Lucas decided to replace his face with the Hayden Christiansen (Anakin from the prequels). I, personally like the change.

It's been fantastic watching you fall deeper and deeper in love with the Holy Trilogy! These days it's become hard to separate the films from all the surrounding hype and merchandise, and even to know if Star Wars is a good as one thinks, or if it's largely down to nostalgia... but seeing new viewers get just as swept up in the saga as we all were as kids gives me a certain sense of validation, and brings warm feelings to my heart ❤
Personally, my favourite of the three is Empire Strikes Back... but when I first saw it at about the age of 7, I thought it was really boring and didn't watch it again for years! Then I happened to catch it on TV when I was 13 and it just blew me away! It was so good and had so much depth to it that I missed the first time round, and it immediately became my favourite movie of all time. But of course, all three are amazing and I'll never get tired of watching them.
I hope you'll enjoy the prequels too, when you get round to them! Generally speaking, those who grew up with the originals weren't big fans of the prequel trilogy, but it seems that those who saw the prequels as kids or watch them now for the first time tend to enjoy them a lot more.
Ps. Lucas originally intended the Ewoks to be Wookiees like Chewie, but changed his mind for three reasons: the budget wouldn't stretch to having loads of them onscreen, it was going to prove nigh-impossible to find enough tall people to play them anyway, and Wookiees would be a formidable enemy for the Empire to fight, instead of being primitive underdogs in the final battle. Therefore Lucas cut them (and the name) in half and hey presto, we have the Ewoks!

Welcome to Star Wars! It's been great seeing a fellow Scot seeing these and falling in love with them, hope you get as much enjoyment out of them as I have over the years! Rogue One is an amazing film, I'd recommend watching that and then watching A New Hope straight after, as it adds a lot to it.

Now you can watch and appreciate Spaceballs. I enjoyed watching you seeing these for the first time - it’s great fun 'seeing' the movies again through new eyes. Seeing them originally in the theatre was amazing as there really hadn’t been anything like them before. Watching that seemingly never ending star destroyer pass overhead in the first movie had everyone in the theater collectively holding their breath.

So enjoyed watching you experience the three films. Ep IV is my first film memory (being in the car with my parents at the drive-in when I was two! It's just little flashes of memory but I watched them years later as a tween and they make me so nostalgic.) It makes me so happy to see new generations of people enjoy something so special to me and countless others. Can't wait to see the other six films in the story. Have a lovely day! (Matt, Sydney AUS)

Really enjoyed watching you experience these for the first time. There’s so much more to go. Wait until you’re about to watch the new shows that have been coming out over the last couple of years. They’re some of the best Star Wars stories since these last three movies you just watched. Thanks Dawn!

For those of us who saw the movies when they were new, this was the first time we saw Jabba. The scene in A New Hope was shot, but with a fat guy in a fur coat. George Lucas had thought about inserting a puppet Jabba in the scene, but he couldn't come up with a design that worked and that he was happy with. And strictly speaking, the scene wasn't really necessary, so he dropped it. When he made the Special Editions in 1997, he restored the scene and made a CGI Jabba. He later improved the CGI rendering for the Blu-ray release, but it was still different from the practical Jabba that always had been in Return of the Jedi.

I love this trilogy so much it has such a great story. One of my favourite subtle things is Luke's clothes. HE starts off wearing white to symbolise the light side and hope. In Jedi he wears black a sign he might turn to the dark side. The at the end he makes his choice and a bit of white underneath becomes visible. Symbolising he could have turned but there was good underneath waiting to come out, and did after he had chosen to be a Jedi. The fact only three people knew who Darth Vader really was is crazy. Even the actor playing Vader didn't know he delivered a different line whilst filming. Mark Hamill knew to give the right response then James Earl Jones knew when he went to record Vader's lines. So only four people knew and had to keep it a secret and they did. Thats just one of many reasons I love this trilogy. Shame secrets can't be kept like this these days. Great reaction and I'm so glad you enjoyed the trilogy. Just goes to prove how great movies stay great and pick up new fans over the generations.

Mel Brooks’ “Spaceballs” was made only after these original three, so you are safe to watch it now. There are other sci-fi film references, but don’t think it’s worth waiting to run across watching them.
If you ever decide to watch Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”, make sure to watch “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” first.

Little Bears are known as Ewoks. One of the Ewoks befriends Leia (Carrie Fisher), Wicket is played then kid actor, Warick Davis who was 11 years old when this movie being filmed. Davis has been in movies since 1983 and continues today. Besides being in movies, Davis runs a talent agency for little people with his father-in-law.

Terry Gilliam's "Time Bandits" also featured a few of the Ewok actors. Gilliam himself has said that those actors end up in full costume for films, so he gave them a chance to show audiences who they actually were.

If you watch the Prequels, the shows and side moves come after. The shows do have certain characters and connecting subplots, so it'd be recommended to watch them in timeline order:
The Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Solo, Rebels, Rogue One, The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett.
Clone Wars is out of order, so there's a chronological order list for that online.

Who you saw under Vader's mask wasn't the same person in the suit the rest of the time. David Prowse was in the suit for the majority of the Vader scenes in the trilogy, Sebastian Shaw was Anakin for the face reveal (and ghost before the remasters).

Trivia: Lucas had Jabba designed, based on the actor Sydney Greenstreet, who was a BIG man himself...he weighed at least 300 pounds.
There was an early scene showing Luke putting together a light saber, in what looks like Obi Won's old house in the desert, but it was taken out of the film b4efore release.

That reminded me of seeing this in the cinema as a kid. My friend noticed that the Rebel Admiral 18:31 bares a striking resemblance to a turd and I said I think his name is Admiral Schitz. As ten year olds this had us giggling for the rest of the movie every time he came on the screen. lol

Well, the original trilogy was _first_ released in '77, '80 and '83. I know the originals can be bought off of Amazon (in the US), but otherwise, I don't know if they can still be found, because the originals were touched up and _re-released_ in '97, with the special effects updated. _Episode V,_ though, was _so_ close to what they had in mind that it was hardly changed, so I understand its popularity.
I don't think I can fairly assess which is my favorite, though, because the _full_ effect comes from being emotionally invested in Luke but not knowing, until he reveals it himself, that Darth is his father. I don't know that I've ever _had_ such a time in my life because I've grown _up_ with _Star Wars._

lol. I have to admit I laughed out loud at one point in the video. The celebration on the planet at the end, with the Ewoks about.."Ah.. that music's awesome." I agree with you! But...... I'm old enough to have seen the film when it first premiered and I can ASSURE you that the music, in the same scene, in that first cut....was BY NO MEANS AWESOME! Changing that particular piece of soundtrack was just one in a myriad of changes Lucas made to the series "on further consideration." If you can find the first cut...take a listen to the "original Ewok party music." It....was...horrific. On this same theme it is common to point out that the original trilogy of Star Wars that you can buy off the shelf today in any store are NOT the original movies as they were made. Which speaks to Lucas's determination to rework the movies, changing soundtracks, inserting (or deleting) scenes, and re releasing the films with a lot of reworks. It's a common complaint and there are many online discussion boards that bemoan the fact, and it is a fact, that it is nearly impossible today to find a copy of the original Star Wars movies as they existed when they were first made and released. Sorry for going on about it, but, its true. What you see today are not the films they once were.

Congratulations. You've taken your first step into a much larger world.
Also feel free to skip the sequels. And along with Rogue One and the Disney plus material, watch the despecialized/unaltered/non revisionist version of the original trilogy that you just saw.
The ''Despecialized'' versions restore the films to the way they were originally enjoyed by millions since the 70s and 80s. Until George recut them in 1997 by awkwardly inserting dated CGI, changing dialogue, and swapping actors where they weren't before. Along with many other changes. Most of them bad.
Thanks for sharing your reaction. I'm happy you enjoyed them so much. It's always great to re-experience these movies through someone else's eyes. 🙂
