As much as it may seem like a meme, decoys actually arent bad, and heres why. Basically everyone agrees that they are terrible and as such no one uses them. Since no one uses them, no one expects them. Since no one expects you to use them, they will be caught off guard by it and be fooled by it. Its the perfect catch 22, its bad and everyone knows it, and as such its actually good

In a real game i bet 9/10 times youd still be fooled by it, because knowing something about the game doesnt really matter much in the heat of the moment. When theres 30 other things youre paying attention to in the middle of a match youre not really going to be thinking about decoy grenades when almost nobody uses them, youre going to be too busy searching for kills and on other players.
