I always assumed through what I've studied we reside on both these planes simultaneously. Our focus of attention merely changes depending on whether were incarnated or not. Sometimes we see, hear, etc what our spirit interacts with all the time. Way I see it nothing really dies it just transforms from one state of being to the next. Kinda like the state of water changes to steam or evaporates only to return again as water. That however is based on my experiences and not all experiences. I tend to base my opinions on my personal experiences. I'm sure the human mind can't comprehend the entirety of creation but thats no excuse to keep me from trying and getting as close to understanding it as possible.
I do tend to believe just as water your state changes naturally all on its own regardless of any checklist of things or deeds while in the physical plane. I really don't personally believe it affects where your going per se. I'd base that merely on the fact its counter intuitive to what I can observe in nature. I believe Salvation matters more here in the Earthly plane than in the next life. In other words your deeds here have far more effect and purpose here and little to none on where we reside after death. If one dies with guilt and regret I believe it would follow you. That pain and misery can create ripples within that plane of existence. Maybe if its loud enough we see or hear it.
Ghost theories are scarier than the ghosts themselves! Good for story telling in any case 😉 You are a natural, ....story teller I mean, not ghost....not yet at least....are there pipes after death?
I've ran into a few ghosts and no matter how much cleaning I did, they still haunted me. I ended up moving, leaving everything behind and relocating my tobacco to a new home. Been ghost free ever since. Sweet smokes amigo 👻🎃

John.....I'm not a super religious person, and I'm certainly not a warlock, or a goblin, or any of those other terms, but...….with the universe being billions of years old and seeing how history and life ( including animals and insects ) has evolved, it's hard to believe that when you die it's all over for you and you have no conscious memory or no future. It will be interesting to see what you come up with.
So John: Can we expect to see either Haunted Bookshop or Gray Ghost in the Halloween pipe on the holiday? One of the greatest ghost stories ever written was not a Halloween story but "A Christmas Carol". Charles Dickens was truly a genius when it came to telling a good story. Actually John many of us consider Matches 860 to be the Dickens of the YTPC. (now for my little half baked philosophical contribution to the discussion). Have you read the research done years ago where a group of scientists weighed an individual right before death and then weighed that person again minutes after death. The result was a decrease in body weight of a few ounces independent of the usual loss of fluids at death. The soul leaving? Is the concept of "soul" just a function of life force energy being transferred? All these are interesting questions to contemplate while enjoying a fine bowl full of tasty pipe tobacco. Keep puffin.
