The 4020 is the best tractor Deere ever made! I’ve been to the factory where they were made in Waterloo Iowa, it’s now a museum. I live in central Florida, diesel is $5.60 here today and I think $5.85 on the interstate
I remember beet harvest time and my uncle on the 4020 pulling the 3 row digger. Those tractors just never die. I pulled disk and roller harrow with the same old 4020. I miss those days
That is definitely awesome find big time. I love the 4020 John deere hit a grand slam when they built that tractor. First tractor I learned on was a 4020. Definitely keep it in its working clothes great way to always have the older equipment all the time. Keep them videos coming and stay safe my friends 😎🌞👍
My uncle had a 4020 with the power shift. It was parked on a hill with the baler attached. I decided to move it, by taking it out of park, and start it by rolling down the hill in gear, like I did with my Oliver’s. Imagine my surprise to find I have no steering, no brakes, and zero control. Thank heavens I didn’t hit anything.
I like tractors in their working clothes as well. I think you should keep the 730 on your planter. I noticed how you shift your powershift. Normally, I'll grab the green side bar and use my thumb to shift. That way, I have something to hold on to when it jerks, and I don't miss my gear. Try it.
Judging by the worn paint in that very spot, I’d say that’s what the previous owners were doing. I guess I can try the 4020 on the disk first. It’ll take me a few weekends to get it ready to run the planter anyway
Unless there is a hole in your rims, you can have them repaired. That will save you plenty of cash! On our farm, both the 4000 and 4020 had calcium in them. We repaired leaks from time to time, and replaced calcium with a less corrosive liquid. You might want liquid in the tires for an overall better balanced tractor.
That 4020 is rare with the power shift and 12v system. She’s a dandy! More then likely the combo of the calcium sloshing and maybe adjusting the shifting linkage she will stop moving.
The calcium is getting sucked out this week. I’m having dad go and look at a set of rims for me sometime this week too so hopefully I don’t have to run the rims I have now for much longer
If u clear coat your un painted Tractors it would protect what paint is left and it would give it some Shine possiblyWould definitely preserve the "PATINA"
If you end up taking the tires and wheels off that 4020 don’t be afraid to heat up up the bolts holding the wedges.some times the bolts come out east but if they’ve had calcium it always seemed like the bolts were a pain to get out. A torch and a air hammer will get them out..
@@goldingerfarms9357 everything is going for good money right now. I just bought a 1968 4020 powershift yesterday at a auction with my son and I’m sure I paid a lot more then many people would consider but I don’t plan on ever selling it. I can make more money but can’t buy memory’s. My boys are happy.
You can rebuild a machine as many times as you want, but it is only original once. I personally would not be too concerned about the two layers of paint, it is part of the tractors history, just like the step and the decal.
Wish I would have known you were headed to Abilene I would have met up with you. I live there. If you ever head this way again let me know I have some classic green and red iron laying around.
Like your tractor-liked the video but what was that about the junk dealer- was raised on the red-have all deere except for a 1969 IH 656 narrow front my grandad bought new-all original
They are nice, as long as you’ve never ran a deere before. Everything in them is eurotrash and the controls are not intuitive for me. They seem to hold up well and I wouldn’t turn one away if I had the chance to run one in the field
My son and I watched a 4020 power shift go for about 3500 at an auction. It did have a little knock in the motor but we could have fixed that. I think my son still kicks himself for not buying that. Here is a video of my sons 4010 he bought with a hole in the side of the block. I welded up the block and we tuned her up a little. ua-cam.com/video/qoKoMCnk5jU/v-deo.html
It’s better to regret not buying something than it is to regret buying something. My great grandpa had a 4010 that was sold when I was 12. I’d give anything to find that tractor
That’s a sweet tractor! Our dog is named May (I think that is the name you said). Ours is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Hay is all we Farm now and I call her, May the Hay Dog... Good video...👍
our deere dealer just went to $150 a hour shop charge and didnt give the employees a raise so 3 shop guys quit went on there own 1 guy just does small mowers BUT NONE of them can keep up. they are SOOOO busy my 4020 is by 1 guy getting majored and its costing me $50 a hour. our deere dealer is sooo mad. oh well you guys cut your own throat. my neighbor his sone just opened his own plumbing business the place he worked at was $120 a hour and $65 service call he now charges on his own $62,50 a hour and NO service call charge with in 15 miles after that its $1.50 a mile charge

Junk yard for Case... no no and more no. Case has been good for alot of people for many many years just like John Deere has been a hit or miss for many. My own experience has been nothing but bad with JD.
4020 is the best tractor ever built. I had a 1968 with a power shift for 10 years. I cried the day it sold.
I’m not sure if I’d say it’s the best tractor ever, but it is a darn good one. There’s a reason that there’s still gobs of 4020s around
Yes, but you have been spoiled with rolling living rooms with a steering wheel, grasshopper.
What's good about old John Deere tractors is , they built them to last..💯
Nice 4020. I have a power shift too. Thats what I use for the little farming that I do. Haven't been able to afford a new one, but I'm happy with it.
Love the 4020 JD Tractor and yours is looking very good .

everybody should have a 4020 -- looks like an excellent tractor and buy
So far, it seems like a good tractor. It’s no 4320, but it’s better than an 806
I remember beet harvest time and my uncle on the 4020 pulling the 3 row digger. Those tractors just never die. I pulled disk and roller harrow with the same old 4020. I miss those days
I’ll pull a planter or a disk with this one. I’ve never seen a field of beets before
Great find. Another classic! Look forward to seeing you get her in shape.
This one will take me awhile, as I’m about out of money to fix it with

Yeah the 4020s don’t roll start. Rolling one down a hill is not something I’d want to do
I run 1964 , 4020 and creep in gear with clutch/ dump valve is normal and good for hooking up things .
I think it was made to work like that .

Eventually I’d like a 4440 but that’s a step up in expense

I want zero liquid in my tires. I’ve been trying to hunt down a pair of rims
Congrats on the new (to you) tractor! It’s a great find!
It should serve me well. I’ve always kind of wanted a 4020

Let the oil warm up and it’ll stop rocking in park. Might help to have new HYGard fluid in it too. In any case it doesn’t mean anything bad.
Enjoy your video and 4020 John Deere is good old tractor! Lots great John Deere equipment in shed! 😘😀 Mike from Missouri

I have had one. The electric system is garbage . I solved
the problem with 12V combine alternator.
This one was 12 volt from the factory

I need to get the 730 clear coated to preserve what’s left of the paint on it
I loved the part going by the junk yard. Lol! If it ain't green it's not mean!!
Eh, Deere has made a few things that weren’t exactly great
I wrote my comment before the junk yard joke it made my day I was raised on John deere

Really like you dad being in the videos sharing what he has been up to.
Kansas is better than Missouri.

Congratulations, you have top notch classic Deere. Loving your channel and GO TIGERS!!
MIZ!
Does it have a cup holder? LOL
Congratulations on your buy! I know nothing about tractors but your enthusiasm and knowledge is catching
It will very soon. I’ll just cut up a piece of PVC pipe and bolt it to the fender
I just love power shift Deere tractors. They are just wonderful.
I like it so far, but I wish I could have bought it a little cheaper

As a retired insurance adjuster never-not that you did- face the opening of a 3 sided she against the prevailing wind.

I already started peeling the top layer of paint off on the hood, so I’ll at least get the hood stripped and then go from there
@@goldingerfarms9357 There is no real right or wrong look. As long as you're happy with the way the tractor looks, then that is the way it should be.

Wheel bearings??
New subscriber - great videos , look forward to seeing more of the 4020 featured in your videos
Saw you today, great channel
You might try Ungers in Mexico Mo for the wheel. The had good prices last time I checked with them for a wheel.
I might call them tomorrow and see what they have. The place in town said it was 498 apiece and they weren’t sure when they could get them in

Needs a m&w turbo. Put 18.4x38 on her Hehe
I enjoyed the video!! If the tach was still working, how many hours were on that beauty when you purchased it?? Thank you!!
I estimate 5-8k. There is a lot of life left on the pedals and it’s a solid old tractor
Looks great 😊
A word to the wise, don't use the cultch paddle. It cuts off the oil to the transmission. Just put in gear and go.
Noted. I figured I could drive it the same way I drive the new tractors, mostly without using a clutch
You’re close to me when you were at Abilene!!

Thank you sir
How much did it go for?
I love JD 4020
Super nice tractor
Bueno yo andube trabajando uno de esos me gustan mucho
that cheap where you are it is 530 a gallon in ga
Fuel prices are at 3.99 for gas, and 4.39 for road diesel here in Columbia. A week ago, road diesel was 3.80
So how much would a tractor be in that nice of shape ?
I thought that they stopped building new 4020s in the early 70's. 😉
Well it’s new to me anyway. It’ll be a good tractor… I hope
Famous last words "I did something stupid that involved an online auction"
You know how it goes. This one was a few hours away from your part of Kansas
Nice Shop…
Ok going to be nosey what did you have to give for the 4020
I would say, he would say none of you're business.
Lovely tractor what type of transmission does she have is it hydrostatic
It’s a powershift. It’s not a hydrostatic, as it has 8 gears

For a 90 tp 100 hp tractor there hasnt ben a better on built there isnt a new one out there that could hold a candle to them now .
To be honest That 730 looks a little bit tougher than the 4020 👍
My 730 has a pretty distinct look. It’s going to stand out at 100 years of horsepower in august
How much was that tractor? You can give a range if you don’t want to say exactly. A lot of viewers like me probably have no clue.
It was over 10

I am down in Tennessee just north of Memphis. When ever you want them just let me know!
I also have a nice 4430 roll guard that I might let go also!
Hello.
Where are you from?
Northeast Missouri
You should straight pipe the 4020 and clear coat it to keep the tractor from getting more rusty
No on the straight pipe, but yes on the clear coat. I still need to get all of the original paint exposed and then I can figure out what to do
If there is rust under the clear coat, it will still rust. The rust will slow, but not stop.
I have a 1955 John Deere 60 in it's work clothes
That’s awesome. We had a 70 gas until 2020
USA - 4020 normal tractor
Europe - 4020 very big tractor
European agriculture is very different from what we have in terms of scale. Im going to Germany for two weeks in may to see German farms
What’d you use for polish
Nothing just yet. I washed it down with the hot water washer is all
