    It never ceases to amaze me how many of these kinds of videos have people giving advice WHO MIGHT NOT EVEN BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.

      Take the advice like you eat watermelon - eat the flesh and spit out the seed

      But that word “might” goes both ways. They might be filled with the Holy Spirit. Even still, if you listen by the Holy Spirit, won’t God guide you in the wisdom of applying the advice?

    I think stories are deff the greatest use from stage, but I think saying that you should use stories over illustrations i think is a little much. The communication of today is pictures; Emojis, Memes, Snap Chats, Social Media and the best way I've heard it is if you're not using illustrations then your missing the language of today.. I do refer back to my first statements that stories are the greatest use from stage but I think visual falls right behind that. Great stuff though guys.

      Hey John - thanks for watching! Using visual illustrations is definitely another great way to help make your points memorable, but in general we would recommend pairing them with stories as psychology is discovering more and more that our brains are literally wired for story. :)

    Stories I get but how does one use stats and steps when you preach verse by verse through books of the Bible?

    • @synapticbit
      @synapticbit 4 роки тому +2

      It would seem to me that “stats” could be substituted with “facts”... in expository teaching, details regarding the culture and environment of those originally receiving the message can be offered to help paint a picture of where the scripture is coming from and going to. As the video said, don’t just throw something out there a “I heard...” or “I think it was like this...” but rather make sure to have done the research to be able to prove information, facts and background that has been offered.
      As far as how to use steps... it’s my opinion that even with strictly expository teaching/preaching, there must be an application. From this video we can ask, “okay what do I do with the feelings this story is evoking?” Or, “okay so those stats are frightening, what do I do with this information?” In an expository message, the steps can be either how the listener can use the new information offered or a moral lesson from the passage that is being taught.

      @@synapticbit I know this is two years late, but for anyone else asking the same question, showing and quoting stats of how people think, feel, and react to things brings identity. 50% of all Americans say that they have experienced some for of depression in the past year. that hits home with a lot of people. It makes you think hey, I'm not really alone in this.

    I agree that stories are a great way to make sermons come alive, but too many personal stories can get a little much. You need a balance. Otherwise it starts to feel like the sermon is about me not Jesus. And after 11+ years at my church it can get hard to come up with stories they haven't already heard that have impact.

      The stories dont have to be about you. Tell stories of people you know. Something you read in the news etc...

    I don't know brothers... There's some good here. Some concerns too. A bit pragmatic, methodological, marketing, and entertaining. Please exercise caution.
