I don't think smoking killed Gary. I think it was that one last haul up inside the train with Audrey that killed him. They should have attached some kind of invisible strings, a pulley, or whatever, to swing her on up into his arms. This film must have humiliated him. I know I cannot stand to watch it. He didn't know when to call it quits.
Although a lovely movie. I always felt that Audrey was mismatched with Gary Cooper. He being a great actor, I thought he just wasn't the right choice to be paired with her in this movie.

I totally disagree. To me this is the most moving scene of the whole picture!
