- A mother and father in Scioto County, Ohio stand trial in the death of their infant son. Young Dylan Groves was found dead 30 feet down a well last year, prosecutors said. Authorities blame the boy’s parents-mother Jessica Groves, and father Daniel Groves-for what happened. The defendants are charged with aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse, and four counts of felonious assault.
Problems stemmed right from Dylan’s day of birth on January 10, 2019. The boy was born with drugs in his system, authorities claim. Daniel Groves later got the child back after showing that he followed regulations, but the defendant allegedly started missing important dates, including court dates and doctor’s appointments.
Investigators claim that both defendants bolted on a four-wheeler when authorities dropped by the home for a checkup on May 20, according to WLTW. Deputies obtained a search warrant, got Jessica Groves to give herself up quickly, but Daniel Groves was only arrested after a six-hour standoff. Authorities said they found $42,000 of stolen items at the residence, and later found the late infant in a well.
Deputies said Dylan Groves didn’t even make it to a full three months of age. They claim there’s evidence showing he’d been dead since March.
How Baby Dylan Was Found In the Well:
A coroner determined that the victim had been slain. The child sustained several bone fractures, had been wrapped in plastic bags with duct tape, then put in milk crates that were wrapped in chains, and other bindings, according to WSAZ. The crates were weighted down with rocks and a weight, authorities said. As in his birth, Groves died with drugs in his body, according to the coroner. This allegedly included methamphetamine.

I agree ! I feel like she went home and literally cried after the verdict. I feel for her. Currently in law school to do the same for babies and people like this
I commend her for such an amazing job and the way she fought hard for Baby Dylans name ..
I honestly don’t know how lawyers are able to get through hearing these kinds of horrific details on a daily basis . I would have a mental breakdown doing it .

When she pulled out the crates I got chills. She's the best lawyer baby Dylan could have had. Stood up for him like he was her own. Sought justice for the pain and suffering in his short life.

@@Mimyakko It may have been an exact reproduction of it to keep the original in its original condition for any possible appeals. That would matter since fingerprints and DNA might need to be revisited.
I feel badly for the jurors who had to look at all the photos of the evidence - there would be no way of "unseeing" any of that.
You can tell this prosecutor had sleepless nights over this case. There is real pain in her voice

She was willing to go above and beyond to get justice for baby Dylan I'm just sad she didn't get to have ten minutes with the so-called mother probably wouldn't ave needed a trial afterwards

The way the defence spoke to the mother was disgraceful. I think taking the good cop bad cop approach she would be yielded better and more answers from the mom.
Also, referring to the baby as “it” was poor choice or words and mentality.

Some wouldn’t want to see them ever again and say this is enough. But some who are severely traumatized get closure by physically seeing them in jail and walking away, closing the doors, leaving them behind is also good closure. Environmental therapy helps :)

The foster mother is obviously in more emotional pain from all of this than the parents. It is clear she truly loved that tiny baby. That CPS totally ignored her concerns and returned Baby Dylan to his parents is one of the most heartbreaking parts of all this.
It was clear the foster mom loved that baby it broke my heart that should of never gave that baby back til she was drug free it wasn't just the drugs that girl is lying she knew exactly Wa t she did I feel bad some way for the dad he was in shock he was put on y he spotted loved his wife but how could he not known the baby had ben injurned

The laws CPS has to follow only get more and more stringent to reuniting the family no matter what. Ive seen this firsthand as one of my chilrens friends were taken from their parents over and over becaise she was returned nearly ever month that they gave a clean UA. Parental rights were onlu terminated when they went to jail for stabbing one of their "friends" while high. Thos went on for over 2 years. CPS went to court to stop this more than 6 times because i went to court that many times and i wasnt there every time. Blame the defendants and the law makers.
CPS is a joke. I've seen it; had to bite my tongue.
@@lindamcd1217 I totally agree with you. In our county, we had neighbors who were wonderful parents and had a foster child who died of crib death. They removed the sibling foster child (both of whom they were preparing to adopt) and took the child they had already adopted!!! They have never gotten them back in spite of the autopsy showing nothing they did contributed to the infant's death; it was labeled SIDS. The surviving sibling was returned to his drug-addicted parents. They were able to keep their two oldest children but only because they were adopted privately and the state could not remove them.
It did not matter that their caseworker said they would have done nothing to hurt the infant (or any child). Nothing friends, neighbors, or church members said had any bearing on it. It was all totally ignored.
Now this same state is responsible for the horrible death of the Powell children who were allowed to visit their father at his home and burned to death in his house.
So, I totally agree with that CPS is often no more than a joke!

Outrage? Try nuclear outrage. I'm an old fart who was the dad at home for my kids, and am looking forward to grandkids someday. Maybe I'm weird, but I have a huge protective response towards infants. Plus they're so damned easy - feed, diapers, snuggle, sing to them - and they let you know what they want so it's simple to know what to do. Most normal people, on having a kid, realize when holding that tiny helpless human that they could kill to protect them, or would die trying to protect them.But these wastes of skin? I am not ashamed to say I burst into tears when that prosecutor held up that milk crate "coffin". I hope they spend the rest of their lives in solitary - getting offed by other prisoners would be too easy.

When the lawyer was describing baby Dylan’s injuries you could see that the foster mom could barley take and and you could see her break down. She really loved Dylan and she could have given him a great life. You can tell that it is hard for her to be there but she feels she needs to for Dylan.

The foster mom broke my heart. She was Dylan’s mommy and loved him. I am glad that Dylan got to experience a mother’s love if only for a short time.

I follow true crime as a hobby. May I say, I have seen dozens of trials and hundreds of hours of lawyers arguing both in front of a jury and not. This prosecutor actually brought a tear to my eye. The closing was only 20 minutes, but so devastating. I live in Columbus OH. If she runs for governor she has my vote. Don't even care if she is a democrat or republican.

This case should be U.S. vs. Child Protective Services. It's a shame CPS didn't take action on this before it happened.
They should’ve have just showed up at the house and demanded to see the baby.

UH, they TRIED... but I can see what you're tryna say tho. I can see how it would be difficult for them to get access when the parents essentailly kiddnapped the baby. it reminds me of the difficulties and cased my father worked on as a CPS agent in his old days- he's 66 now and had to retire as there were just too many cases that haunted him, but he stayed on the field for more than 40 years and started when he was 20- I might be thinking on what he said as more recent but he says back then you would have to have a warrant to actually show up on the client's property unless a public and physical asset claims that there isn't something right in that house or they see it for themselves via suspicious behavior (Drugs, coke lab, alcoholism, etc).
Cops only started looking for the baby because of CPS not being able to find him

i’m the same age as the fifteen year old son and i could never imagine how he’s feeling. both of his parents are in prison for MURDERING his baby brother. who knows what else he went through! i hope that boy is getting therapy and can live a life as normal as it can get for him

They aren't baby Dylan parents. The foster parent /teacher that had him 12 days is. Thats the only love and affection that baby ever knew. The only "parent" that cried and wept for him in that court room. CPS should be held accountable!!!

Her anger and emotion are 100% justified if you’ve heard the manner in which this poor infant child was brutally killed. It made me sick to hear it described. My heart breaks for poor Dylan, and for his brother, and for his foster mom. It’s depressing that there’s such evil in this world. If they didn’t want to take care of him, poor Andrea the foster mom was right there ready and willing.

Social Services should have never gave them there baby back until they had 3 months clean urines, 6 weeks of child care classes, an see a counselor first year and they did nothing they still wouldn't have done any of that

And the baby should have had mandatory wellness exams by a Pediatrician at least monthly if not every two weeks.

Watching the foster mother’s suffering as the prosecutor listed the injuries was honestly heart breaking. It’s clear she cared about the baby and I can’t even imagine how it feels to be there looking at those murderers and listening over and over about this horrid crime.
One of.....if not THE best prosecutors I've ever seen! I myself was completely riveted to my computer monitor watching that passionate and truly devastating closing! WOW! I would hate to be the lawyer having to follow that.

The only other one i would consider better is mr. Hatami that did Gabriel's case, but they are neck and neck as prosecutors. Each are better than the other at something different. Put them together and ain't nobody getting away with anything!

I'm a mom of 3, 12 grandbabies, all so precious to me. I'd kill for any one of them w/o a second thought. Kills my heart what baby Dylan went thru at the hands of his parents that were supposed to protect him. The suffering and the pain of previous injuries trying to heal while receiving new ones constantly. This prosecutor was beyond amazing! She gave baby Dylan his voice that was taken from him.

I'm not a momma bear, but I'm an aunty bear to 4, soon to be 5 nieces, and those are just as much my cubs as my own would be, and I would rip someone to piece if even the most minor of this poor babys injury's were intentionally inflicted on any one of them. BRAVA!!! May I add that she seems to have a great deal of passion for the older son. I loved the way she stood to block his view of his parents while testifying. She was also so annoyed that the other female lawyer was interrupting saying she couldn’t hear the poor kid. Loved that the judge told her to get up and stand near the witness box.
My lawyer did the exact same thing in my case... she realized that having to face my abuser would be too hard.

I’ll get called out on this, but, keep children away from abusive, ultimately murderous parents. If the parent misses a meeting, find baby and secure. We have to stop trying to keep families together. Baby Dylan never belonged in the care of the parents.

I think we should cut those who have a violent psychosis before they ever have a baby. Tax payers will pay for it, and happily. People like them don't deserve to bring a life into this world. Parenting is a privilege and not a right. Well we should enforce that better. Prevent a murder. Abusive people are not that hard to point out. I lived with an abusive father for my entire childhood. If me and my brother didn't speak up, we would probably be dead right now.

The foster mom is the only one crying real tears fire Dylan. Jessica doesn't shed a tear listening to the injuries and the foster mom broke down. Jessica cried hearing herself talk about not having soap in prison but not one tear hearing of fractures of the skull, leg, arm and ribs of her 2 month old baby. Why did they fight to get that baby back? Money? They could have just let Dylan stay in foster care.

No they don't. They don't allow inmates to watch any news outlets! Not in county and def not in prison. But when ppl are arrested they usually get a lot of paperwork and keep it and usually others end up seeing it. Ppl will talk and wonder what they've done bc they'll be in there forever. Family members might mention it to inmates. But no we can't watch the news. And it's bc of that reason exactly.

I live in ohio and I remember when all this happened. I cried and cried. This is horrible. If you are suffering and considering hurting your baby, please seek help and place your child in the hands of a trusting individual/family.
No child should have to die from the hands of their parent.

Live in the UK, recently served on jury of murder case, never experienced a prosecutor with so much passion.
I just think this is awesome, no holding back, no dusty old traditions that we have to adhere to in UK. She ripped them apart while holding her own broken heart together. 💔
Upon learning about this horrendous case, I went and hugged my two year old son extra tight and told him that I love him.
Dylan is just six months older than my son. RIP, baby boy. You deserved so much better.
Love this prosecutor. She went after Daniel Groves, as she knew Jessica Grove was fried any way, and she wanted to make sure Daniel got his just dessert, and boy did she go after him.

What an amazing Prosecutor, she has shown more compassion & love to Baby Dylan than his parents did prior to death and after. My heart goes out to the 15 yr old son & may he not suffer for the actions of his parents. I wish him a good life full of happiness. Thank you Law & Crime Network for such Awesome coverage!! If I were a member of this jury I would find both the Mother and Father guilty on ALL COUNTS.

The outrage the prosecuting attorney expresses is real. No doubt. It's also warranted. Her final statement about the milk crates, tape, etc being baby Dylan's coffin is powerful. I think the prosecuting attorney is genuine and did an awesome job.

This prosecutor is amazing. The way she broke down each count and each lie this is a master class in closing statements. The family, which I am assuming is her family seems to be good people who did what they could to protect this baby. CPS was called multiple times and they seem so sad, I hope they can find peace.
The prosecuter went hard and I am so glad that she did. Confronting the jury and parents with the makeshift coffin was raw, hard hitting and incredibly difficult to watch. What incredible work xxxx

I was looking for this comment.. I was seeing Jennifer Aniston the whole time.. but on a more serious note, this prosecutor is an absolute angel! The way her voice was cracking at times coz of the emotions but at the same time was staying very professional and the whole ending ment needs a whole standing ovation. She gave that baby a voice that was forcefully taken away from him.
