yoongi wrote the song for the upcoming artists who struggle to stay afloat on their journey, but also for his past self who experienced exactly that but had no senior artist to tell him these words. bts did a lot of "first korean act to", "first asian act to", "first act to" and as it was happening they had no one who was able to give them advice because no one was where they reached. figuring everything out by themselves was hard on their mental health

There is a documentary you can watch where Yoongi goes to visit the terminally ill Ryuichi Sakamoto, a huge personal hero of his. He explains to Ryuichi Sakamoto the role he had in his decision to pursue Music. They spend some quality time, and Ryuichi Sakamoto agrees to work on this song. Maybe his last? It was so fitting this song was about supporting new artists.

The live version of this song was so beautifully performed and staged for his D-day tour. It starts with a video clip of Suga watching Ryuichi Sakamoto playing the piano from the D-day documentary. During the performance Suga is dressed all in white and stands in the middle of the stage rapping at a microphone stand with a huge screen behind him projecting his performance. During the performance video images of a forest growing are projected onto Suga and continue to grow as the song builds until the video takes the audience soaring above a forest. It was a beautiful visual trubute to Sakamoto who founded and lead a conservation organization called More Trees. The month that he died Sakamoto wrote a letter to the Tokyo Goverment opposing a redevelopment plan that involved cutting down hundreds trees in the Jingu forest that surrounds the Meji Jingu shrine in Tokyo. The performance was a subtle and visually stunning way to honor him and what he loved. When the song ended the screen goes black and in simple white type a message "I wish you peace on your long journey. RIP".

I'm not sure how much you know about Min YoonGi aka Suga/AugstD....but as you liked his MV then the following info might be of interest to you. Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16.
Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper in his hometown Daegu,
He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 and became the second member to join BTS..... At BTS debut in 2013 he was 20 y.o....
he is one of BTSs main producers/songwriters/composers and has over 150 song copyrights.... he also produces for other artists and has won awards for his work.... he is one of the fastest rappers in South Korea. Suga (SHU-GA.... from Shooting Guard - the position he played in basketball) ...... AgustD = SUGA + DT (Daegu Town - his hometown) Spelt Backwards
Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce, write and compose music.
In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking.
He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising.
He has released 2 free mixtapes - and last year released his first official album (of which he continues to maintain full creative control)
Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D".
He is best known for his honest hardhitting lyrics.
    Have a great day 💜

He’s the singer and lead guitarist of The Rose and also has solo stuff. He and The Rose are incredible. Suga's speaking voice is usually a little deeper than this. Oddly enough the aspiration is also there when he speaks sometimes. Woosung's voice is absolutely gorgeous, and I've always wondered what a collab would sound like with him and Tae (from bts). Woosung's the lead singer and guitarist with The Rose as well as doing solo work too. I've been a fan of Ryuichi Sakamoto for at least 25 years and so was delirious when i found out this track was happening. Needless to say, it didn't dissapoint. Suga wrote this song for younger people as he said that bts didnt have any peers who they could relate to when they were younger. You should be able to find on youtube the meeting between Suga and Ryuichi not long before he died.✌️💜

Yoongi was inspired and looked at Ryuichi Sakamoto as a mentor. He went to watch a movie he did a score in when he was a child and that was the beginning of his musical journey. When Yoongi was a teenager he used to take the scores of Ryuichi and chop them and reverse them to learn how to produce. He even has a video on his instagram of him playing Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence while he was in Japan to meet him. If you want to see that meeting I'd recommend you check out Suga:Road to DDay Documentary, which includes all of it as well as Yoongi playing the piano for him and Ryuichi Sakamoto playing something for Yoongi.

Woosung is from a band called the Rose that is kind of famous for their hauntingly beautiful ballads, but also has some more upbeat rock songs. The Rose has 2 main vocalists and both of them are wonderful. Their earlier songs are mostly in Korean but for the last 2 albums mostly songs in English. Woosung was born in South Korea, but grew up in California and didn’t have to do mandatory military service because he is a U.S. citizen, so while the other members of The Rose were in the military he released solo music that is a bit more funky than The Rose’s usual stuff. They also write their own music. If you are interested in hearing, I recommend She’s in the Rain (from their earlier stuff), Back to Me or Childhood or Cure (from their more recent music), Phase Me or Face (from Woosung’s solo music)

It was to the point that I wondered if he had any other hobbies other than thinking about music."

Sakamoto has been my favorite composer since I was a teen. Seeing he also being Suga musical inspiration since he was a child and that he got to collaborate on this as the final musical project before Sakamoto passed. It’s an emotional train. I hadn’t listened to Woosung or his band The Rose before this and now I adore him. His voice is amazing. The whole song is just a punch. I have days that are hard I just need to hear Suga say “everything will be ok” 16 times. In the final tour concert concert Suga was sobbing trying to get through the song and always deeply emotional every show.

One thing I've noticed in Yoongi's songwriting and composition is that dynamics are really important to him. A lot of his songs will have that forward-driven feel, ending immediately after a climax. As you said for this one, it shows in his rap being softer at the beginning and culminating in the more aggressive, forward-postured tone. Instrumentally, he'll bring in orchestral elements or electric guitar towards the middle-end to emphasize that movement as well. Even during BTS's early years, he would play with squeaks, laughter, pauses, growls in his raps as well.
Woosung is great too - he and his band The Rose do a lot of rock (maybe pop-rock?) - Back To Me is a recent one that's a really solid anthem-type song.
I've listened to Ryuchi Sakamoto occasionally, but mostly within Spotify playlists - I'm going to dive deeper into his work this weekend.

3:45 Yoongi's natural speaking voice is surprisingly deep. His rapping is often quite musical, and you can hear in the opening to Snooze here that he kind of speak-sings his lines, so they come out much lighter than just speaking would.
I'm probably dating myself here, but Woosung's voice here reminds me SO much of Sade (Smooth Operator).
As the members of BTS have moved into their next chapter and Suga's brought his Agust D trilogy to a close, he's been spending a lot of time thinking about longevity, and legacy, and what he, as a seasoned musician, might give back (or pay forward) to the next generation.
I'm sure you've heard a good bit by now about how difficult BTS's trainee and debut days were, starting out. Suga is VERY MUCH against the "I suffered for my art, so you must suffer, too" mindset. He's been consciously using his position at the top of the food chain to mentor younger performers and try to improve industry conditions.
He's also been using the opportunity of his Suchwita talk show to talk with *his* seniors and with well-established actors and musicians, to get the benefit of their wisdom on going the distance in the entertainment industry. (I'm pretty sure he had that conversation with Ryuichi Sakamoto, too, when he met him.) The average K-Pop group lasts 7 years; Suga has his eyes firmly set on 30-40 years. (He jokes about changing their "Bulletproof Boy Scouts" name to "Bulletproof Grandpas" and performing in nursing homes.)
This song is part of Suga's legacy, and is intensely meaningful for him. When he performed it on the last day of his tour, in Seoul, in front of ARMY and his fellow BTS members and his own juniors and seniors, he became overwhelmed by emotion and broke down at the "Everything's going to be okay" mantra. ARMY sang it to him, instead. (I still can't watch that performance without crying.)
I love this song SO MUCH. Thank you for reacting to it!

Suga got into music because of Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. He's said he used to take samples from Sakamoto's music to create his first songs. Sakamoto has been one of his biggest musical influences and he said he was so honored he got to meet and work with him on this song.
I didn't know much about Woosung or The Rose before this collaboration. There are many songs that show off his vocals but some of my favorites are She's in the Rain and a cover of ILYSB.

I typed out a very long, thoughtful comment and UA-cam just... deleted it. Poof! Boo.
This song is Yoongi speaking to younger artists who come after him, giving him the advice and comfort he wishes he'd had when he was starting out. He's also kind of talking to his younger self, with the "everything will be okay" line. It's what he wishes someone had said to him back then, and he doesn't want others to have to feel as alone as he did.
Yoongi's been a fan of Ryuichi Sakamoto since he was a child and his parents took him to see "The Last Emperor." During the meeting you saw in the video, he got to talk to Ryuichi about how he'd influenced the way Yoongi makes music, and the kinds of music he wants to keep making as he continues his career. He even got to play "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" for Ryuichi! In the elevator after the meeting, Yoongi seemed a bit star-struck, too. "Snooze" was the last thing Ryuichi worked on before he passed, and his daughter wrote a really sweet message for Yoongi and how her father loved working with him, and how thankful she was that Yoongi included an "RIP' tribute after the song at every concert. Yoongi even wrote an article for Commons, Ryuichi's record label, talking about his ten favorite songs: www.commmons.com/10favorites/#suga It should auto-translate via your browser.
Woosung is one of two vocalists for The Rose, a Korean rock band. Both the vocalists are great! Their most popular song is "Back To Me," but I also really love "Red," "Wonder," and "Alive." Woosung also has a couple of solo albums, too. I got to see The Rose live at the Kia Forum a few months back and they were very, very fun and very good live! Definitely a great show 🙂

Yoongi used to visit a small theatre in his neighborhood that only played 'The Last Emporer'. He was exposed to his music and would later use his samples when he began making music himself.
In the Disney documentary 'Suga: Road to D-Day' you'll see him visiting him in Japan and they talk about music, life and this song.

I love this song so much... its meaning and the story of how it came about.
I love that you spot how he uses audible breath as another instrument... It's really his signature, I think, a sound that's very much his. I think he also plays with pitch a lot more than many rappers, and adds some interesting cries (not so much in this one).
Yoongi really can rap for a long time on one breath. We joke about him not needing to breathe 😂 but yes, he breaks it up differently when it's live.
Woosung's voice is perfect for this song, it's almost got a sobbing quality. He's an incredible singer. So emotive.
This song is just gorgeous, and Yoongi backs it up with action too... We've gotten to see him talking with younger artists on his own show, and he's so invested in making sure they have the support BTS didn't. He's breaking down barriers. It makes me very proud.
다 괜찮아질 거야 💜 sometimes we all need to hear it sixteen times in a row

Truely one of my favorite songs by Agust D ( I’m sure you have seen this but it’s Suga spelled backward and the DT is for Daegu Town, where he lived.) it’s a beautiful message and comforting song. He did this live on a Road to D Day documentary and they are just as wonderful live. Suga is a huge advocate for his juniors. Since BTS really didn’t have anyone they could go to as they were coming up, he always tries his best to support the newer idols, and is a great role model for them. Suga struggled a lot with depression and anxiety, check out his song The Last, it’s pretty powerful, and a very brave of him to put to lyrics. His trilogy: Daechwita,Haegum, and Amygdala kind of delve into his psyche, with him playing dual characters in the first two songs, with the third kind of going into how his past affected him. I really liked your reaction, and yep it’s emotional seeing the tribute to Ryuichi Sakamoto, whom Suga really admired.have fun with the rest of the rap line, they are not what you think..great lyric that make you think. BTS rap line made me appreciate rap as a genre of music I had totally dismissed.

I bawl during the d day documentary when he met Ryuichi. It was so touching the way they spoke to e/ o/ but then truly connected beyond words when they started spontaneously playing the piano back & forth. They were conversing w/ music & it was magic. I was there for the first day of the d day tour & when he played snooze w/ a memorial it felt like a gut punch cuz no one expected it

I saw him in concert, and when woosong's chorus came, he'd turn away from the mic and let the audience sing that part. Being in the middle of that, with everyone singing their hearts out, was awe-inducing.

Captions. The lyrics to this are heartbreakingly beautiful. Its a song beggining young artists not to suffer like he did. That its alright to rest, he will have their back. The advice he offers like not to revel in the controversies of others because they may find themselves in the same position one day etc. This song really deserves the lyric breakdown. After I did a deep dive into BTS I discovered they had so so many beautiful songs. They are all different. Lyrics music. BTS has more songs with substance than most bands let alone bands that have only been together 11 years. The singer is the lead singer of THE ROSE.

Woosung is a singer and guitarist in a band called The Rose. If you wanted to hear more from him they did a live cover of I Love You So Bad one time that blew up to the point people tbought it was their song. 😅 Theyre kind of indie rock i guess. Works of their own you could try... Back to Me, Beauty and the Beast, Sorry, I.L.Y., Sour. Theyre some of my favourites.

The song is so meaningful, the melody is amazing, yoongi is a rap God and woosung's voice and the way he sang his verses had a hauntingly beautiful quality. Although their solo work showed maturing artists and musicians, the rap line has always been intense, dark, and grittier than the BTS brand could ever allow them to be. So in many ways it is more of a returning to their original sound as well as maturing. The lighter brighter pop numbers were the group’s gap year songs during the pandemic when they were supposed to do a last world concert before enlisting in the military. So not the best reflection of their discography. Great vocal focused commentaries as always. It is so refreshing after swamping through wanna be vocal expert kpop UA-camrs who often confused belting and screaming with actual good singing. Thank you so much.

The Sheltering Sky, man. I'm shred to pieces every time I put it on. Every time. Ryuichi Sakamoto & Enio Morricone, Williams, Zimmer... the great cinematic composers of our time. So glad SUGA was able to collaborate with him.
I think you'd like to check out Wild Flower by RM. He did it live, in a very small concert hall, the sound is quite raw. It's also a collaboration and the female singer sings so powerfully, with a Jimin-like cry at the end of her sentences too, I'd like to hear your thoughts on both her and RM's singing.

Thank you for the your insight into Agust D's music and your emotional response. Some of his work makes him cry too. Loved the reaction. Love this song so much - both the music and the meaning. It's interesting because most of us in the West were introduced to BTS recently as a "pop boy band" but when you delve a little deeper you realize they have actually always been so much more and a lot of that comes out with the rapline - in their individual work but also in the group (no disrespect to the vocal line who I love as well). It will be interesting to see what you choose with the other two and if at some point you perhaps might want to take a look at some of the BTS songs that move away from "straight pop". There's depth and breadth in all of their expansive discography - in both music and meaning.

Woosung is one of the members and vocalists of the band The Rose (I was at their concert in Poland, Cracow on the 15th March, it was freaking great, already miss them).
