I just missed seeing this live. This is one of my favourite crossings in one of my favourite places Glendale. It was a very close call. When the barriers go fown there is not that much time until the train comes. Very fortunate a police officer & a good samaritan was on hand to push the car to safety.
I saw this live and thought "Is this really happening?" Thankful for the cop and other good Samaritans who helped the driver, but I'm wondering why that driver, who (if you saw the seconds prior to this video) had already been struggling A LOT to get going, proceeded onto the tracks. He/she *had to* see that train before the crossing illuminated. That's a good time to wait it out.
I'd guess there are sensors and if there's something detected on the crossing that needs to get off the exit gates stay up or go back up until it's clear, then lower as normal.
@@megatronacepticon There are inductive loops under the crossing, much like those under the asphalt that sense your car at a drive thru or a pay station that needs to know if there's a vehicle waiting to clear the wooden arm.
Saved that Driver's Life, and hopefully that driver will now start shopping for Better Tires. PSA: ALL-SEASON TIRES ARE NOT RATED FOR WINTRY CONDITIONS!
I happened to be watching that night. It's really strange but right after that train passed by, that car was first to pass over the grade crossing coming back across!
I caught this live! Was flipping through VR and there it was! Rear wheel drive and possibly bald tires are useless in snow.🙄😡 Even though that's probably the steepest hill in Ohio.
I don't think it did. Both secondary arms come down at the same time (look at the left gate closest to camera). It looks like the first arms in the direction of travel come down first, then both of the other gates come down together.
Come on, show the whole story. They got stuck turning around at that side road next to the tracks and stupidly decided after that to cross the tracks anyway. Stay home if it’s not absolutely necessary to be out in that kind of weather.
I always get out of the iced over two track and onto the snow for better traction in situations like that. You learn little things like that in the north
Always look before you cross always. You can usually see the light of the train, even if the gates not down. In these conditions just wait. ❤️ Glad everyone was safe
This is why I love my 2011 F150. Never got stuck and it does really good in the ice and the heavy snow, all I do is switch to 4x4 high and it does all the work B)
I wonder if the engineer or the conductor could see the car in the distance and if so I would have thought they would have done a thank you Honk with the train horn there.
This clip does not tell the whole story. I was watching live. I remember the cop pulling the car over on the cross street, out of camera view. After a few minutes, the car backed up and tried to go over the crossing. It couldn’t so it backed up and slid around for a few more minutes. It finally went back over the crossing and that is when this clip starts. If anything, the cop should not have let it come to this point.
Curious if that's a "quiet zone" crossing preventing the engineer from sounding the horn. Perhaps an early horn blast would've helped the stop before crossing?
They saved that person's life at the risk of their own. They deserve a reward of some kind.
Thank you for showing that good people in the world do exist.
So true it seems most people today would rather stand back and film it so they could sell it to the news

I love when exceptional video clips like this are posted as their own video! Thanks so much for doing this, instead of burying it in a grab bag!
It was in a grab bag...
@@ren-uz2mz I assumed so. Nice to see they posted it here by itself as well!

Amazing beyond belief! The fact that they risked their lives for that other man is amazing. Lucky man.
Definitely some good samaritans saving the driver from disaster. Nice.
As the Adam West Batman would say "Bravo good citizens!"
The media really NEED to publicize NEVER stopping on tracks for any reason.

That car better have come back and thanked those men!!
Good people
They should be proud of what they did from preventing a major accident
Luckily, that quad gate stayed up for a little bit because the car is on the tracks and it need to stay up until it clears the other side
That's what the quad gates are meant to do. Instead of being stuck on the tracks, it acts like an emergency exit
Gates give a lot..
That wouldn't have stopped the train.😆

Hats off to the people who helped him escape from the crossing! ❤
Thank you officer and your two helpers in Glendale Ohio
BEAUTIFUL, AN APPEARANCE OF SUPERMAN AND BATMAN RIGHT ON TIME.
You mean Batman and his sidekick

You can't assume they had the incorrect tires on their vehicle. The video is too far away to tell.
Such a good thing to see. Thanks for sharing.

I like the voice over in the videos
I saw this a few days ago on the news. They showed it from the cops bodycam
same, I never knew that VRF had a camera there.
While Michigan fans don't like 'em much, generally Buckeyes is good folk.
Above stated with humor. Thanks to whomever those quick thinking guys were.

This belongs on all nation-wide mainstream media news! 👍❤
True Ohioans helping their own
It's so cool that the exit gates on the crossing knew something was wrong and stayed up until the car was off the crossing.
Good observation. I'm an old railfan and never knew that idea was incorporated into warning systems.

afaik the grade crossings with quad gates all have that feature
Maybe the person in the car should have looked both ways before attempting to cross. Either way glad this person made it out alive and on there way.
It doesn't get any scarier than that--at least I hope it doesn't. Thank heaven for those angels in disguise!
Bravo guys, you did good. The driver should have stopped and bought them all a drink or something
This intersection looks real cool with the tracks and crossing lights gas station, I guess drunks don't think so
