I live outside Louisville Ky and just got my Starlink. Game changing for those without and those of us with only poor DSL in the area. The change in speed for me was 6.1 Mbps to 60-110 Mbps download with Starlink vs Frontier. This will benefit many in WV! Btw I Miss the WV vs UofL rivalry! Don’t know when it will be in WV but it’s here and will be there before you know it if not already.
i have 5 download and .5 upload. the best i can get in my area of west virginia. it is so sad because i love my home state, but so discouraging not to have access to what really need :(
@@KyleGillis could you possibly make a video explaining what Iconicair is and what progress you’ve made. Congrats on that, really enjoy the videos man keep it up 👍🏽.
So.. I live in wv and have seen videos on starlink in west virginia but wanna know whats funny? I cant order it. Says its targeting my area by early to mid 2022 which changed from 2021 to 2022. (Edit: wouldnt care for starlink if shentel would get off their fucking asses already and toughen the fuck up. literally 5 minutes away from town but wont do shit.)
some news outlet said that starlink wouldn't have as big of an impact as expected because it wouldn't lower cable prices, but they didn't factor in the people who would be willing to move out of the cities if they could have good internet access.
I think there are a lot of reasons for them to have incentive to say this. And i agree, i don’t think that’s true. i think there is wayyyyy more potential in this than people realize! There are SO MANY people in rural America (and not even rural really) who can’t actively get on the internet.. it’s wild
Have starlink for rv here in Elkview so far it mostly obstructed due to trees speed flactuates so much and even in Illinois on full open area mostly get 45mbps.
Once you select your address, you are gonna probably be pissed if you move because apparently with all his genius mr musk doesn’t allow address changes
First off welcome back my brother, I wanna be a part of all this start up, I have already sent in my deposit 99$, and you are so right WVa needs a strong voice here, now we have gotten huge grants to upgrade and build infrastructure for rural WVa and all, but I see nothing on the ground as of yet .The new Starship rocket will be able to launch 240 at a time then all they will have to do is possession in the area where they want to populate. Hay lookie here WEST VIRGINIA is a huge audience. P.S. keep up all your hard working I'am behind ya all the way SIR. God bless you.
Why have a portable satellite type but be stationary?! Would be actually really cool if the richest guy in the world to say hey! You can take your internet wherever the hell you want to at any given moment wanna watch your tic tok while out on the lake being awesome? Access granted
Has anyone asked the question wether everyone wants to be spied on and wether its actually for west virginia or for the demise of our beautiful mountains and animals.id rather walk outside then be stuck looking at pictures and videos.they want their artificial intelligence to not be hindered when it comes to whatever it is that they think thwy need to be here for.the impact is the same as if you take a campfire and dont put rocks in a circle to contain it.in my opinion it has the same outcome
I cant wait to get in north carolina. I live in a pretty rural area. Centurylink wont update our box because it isnt cost efficient and the box was put in in 1960. Tried getting spectrum and wont give it because we are too far from the box. Sick of getting less than 1 mbps. Seriously cant wait for the expansion.
@@KyleGillis I'm hoping that starlink becomes successful. Viasat, hughsnet, centurylink, spectrum, etc, is about to get a run for their money. They are about to lose a lot of business because they dont care about their customers and i wont feel bad when we switch, one bit.
@@thedarkvoid4422 Haha same here.. same here.. I was just talking with someone the other day and it almost feels like the iPhone release.. It creeped up on everyone and now the competitors are going to spend 3+ years trying to play catch up.
@@thedarkvoid4422 Omg yes! I have Viasat and I dream of the day when I can call and cancel my service! It is okay internet, but it is super expensive for what you get. I am on the 25GB/month plan, so no streaming Netflix or Hulu or anything and I have to put UA-cam videos in very low quality to conserve data so it will last the whole month. In this part of Florida, dsl is not yet available, it would cost $85,000 to get Comcast to run lines into this area, and if I had good secure reliable internet access, I’d be able to work from home. If I take my xp laptop to the library, I can get 45-100 kbps. (Yes, K - not M.... a B would be an inconceivable dream - let alone the ten that starlink might reach)
hey I am studying IE at Pitt, and didn't have a GPA i wanted the first semester, looking to bounce back the second semester. What is the best way to contact you for some help and tips?
What’s up Pedro. Either asking your questions in the comments here or dm me on IG are prob the best! Top 2 things I’d say: 1) if you’re not already working with a solid group of 1-3 friends, then go find that group. I wouldn’t have graduated if I didn’t do this. (Graduated with 2.01 lmao) 2.) There comes a time in your life where you just have to look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself and nobody else that you’re going to get it together, then be disciplined enough to set aside regular time to study. It just so happens it took me 10+ of these personal talks lol. Hopefully it takes less for you!
I live just outside of Morgantown, but since March of last year been using mobile hotspot on phone for internet. I keep hoping for Starlink to come to WV.
Prob around the corner. Ohio announced the purchasing of about 100 for testing. Hopefully end of Q1 or start of Q2 this year. Sign up for the beta if you haven't already!
I'm sure you've seen or heard, but as of late on 2/9/21 Starlink opened up it's beta either to immediately order the hardware/service (based on limited availability) or put a deposit down for areas where service will be available in mid to late 2021. I'm up in the NP of WV, only about 60 miles from a ground station and should be getting the hardware within 2-4 weeks. I have to say kudos on what you're talking about on your channel. I've been lucky enough to be able to stay in an area I love while still being able to pursue a career but a lot of that had to do with being within an hour of downtown Pgh. Like you, I think Starlink and potentially its competitors are a gateway for WV to grow. I know I've already seen some friends migrate back which I hope becomes a trend. Best of luck.
It is also to be noted that currently SpaceX can launch 60 satellites at a time with their Falcon 9 rocket, but they are working on their new Starship rocket and once this is in use they will be able to 240 at a time, so that should accelerate things exponentially.
What's to come ? Controlling and monitoring everything you do ! Inside and outside of your home ! West virginia does not need internet. It needs leaders that actually give a shit.
