- Madeira is one of the Portuguese islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It belongs to the Archipelago, which also includes Porto Santo and the uninhabited islands of Desertas and Selvagens.
The archipelago lies about 685 km from the coast of Africa, about 970 km from Lisbon, 370 km from Gran Canaria and 770 km from the island of Santa Maria, the closest island of the Azores.
We spent three weeks on this beautiful island and tried to see as much as possible during our stay. We drove 1400 km by car. and walked about 300 km. This small island captivated us with the beauty of nature and what the inhabitants built on it. Despite such a difficult terrain, roads and hiking trails (especially along the levadas) reach almost everywhere and you can usually move comfortably on them.

I love Madeira too I went there 4 times already and I enjoy it so much I’m 87 years old but I hope I have the chance to go there at least one more time it was one the most beautiful places I see everybody should go there my self I recommend.❤️

Sporo czasu poświęciłem na ten film, ale było warto, skoro czytam takie miłe słowa. Madera jest przepiękna. Sądzę, że każdy kto ją widział, potwierdzi to a ci, którzy jeszcze nie mieli okazji się o tym przekonać, to mam nadzieję, że ten film im w tym pomoże.
Bow to your professional work. Helped to refreshify my memory. Can't explain why I experienced so suffocating, unbearable anguish and loneliness in this place. Never happpened before, anywhere. Used to live on the Island for more then a year, had enough health, optimism and cash to enjoy it from every possible angle, with no reason to work. Golden, serene period of my life and yet I was never happy here.

Good work my friend. My family is from Madeira Island ( Canico , Santa Cruz and Funchal). My Grandfather was a Police man and my Great Grandmother was a School Teacher. My Great-grandfather had my Grandfather at 71 and I hope soon to break his record, kidding ;) The last time I was there was in 1989 before all the cable cars and all the holes in the mountains. Your beautiful photography and beautiful pictures makes me yearn for Madeira and see it once again before I leave this planet. You have done such wonderful work and God bless.❤❤❤❤❤

@@Radek7001 Yes, I own land there but have not been there since 1989. My Mother passed away and I'm not sure how many years the land stays in my mother's name before the government of Madeira takes it. I think it is either 20 years or 25. If that's the case I have to claim it in 2 years. I will go there soon I guess because although I was born in Toronto Canada I am also a Citizen of Portugal ( I'm blessed two times ). I love Madeira and even more I love the Order of Christ ( Knight's Templar) cross on the beautiful Madeira Island flag. Thank you for responding my friend. :)
@@Diocles6009 Indeed, when I was there, I saw many places where there are only ruins. Areas that no one seems to have cared for a long time. I know that people buy such lands or buildings and renovate them. I was a little interested in this topic and talked to people living there. I was considering moving to this beautiful island myself. They told me that there were many places that nothing could be done about because no one had yet claimed ownership of them. I also heard that people have to be careful when buying such places because the rights to their property are not completely established. Sometimes there are only some of the heirs and the rest is unknown what happened. There were times when many people emigrated, including to America. It was similar in the Azores. You are obviously one of them. Go and deal with this matter. Nowadays such an area is a great treasure. Don't leave it like that. Good luck my friend.
@@Radek7001 Thank you and I will find out about my land. I call Madeira Island " the Goldy locks zone" because of its perfect climate. It's also know as the Pearl of the Atlantic and the Floating Garden in which the world gave us those Nicknames. Madeira Island has won the best destination in Europe 7 years in a row and the best destination in the world around the same amount of time. That Island is extremely healthy as you know and many Europeans went their to regain their health like Winston Churchill who owned property their as so many others. CR7 is our biggest jewel at the moment and he has quadrupled the visitors to our beautiful Island. Once again my friend, thank you for show casing my beautiful Island. Respect.

Hello there, you must have spent many hours in the production and editing of this excellent video.
Interestingly, I'm from Madeira but I didn't know many of the paths and levadas in certain areas like the mountains of Madeira. However, in addition to these areas being very attractive and beautiful for walks by many tourists, on the other hand, many routes are extremely dangerous due to the abyss and meteorological changes, mainly fog.
Finally I noticed someone running on the paths of Pico Ruivo, this is pure madness especially where the abyss is noticeable and extremely dangerous. Consequently, no matter how often the authorities warn, people continue to transgress the measures and warnings set out in various places. Unfortunately there are too many accidents throughout the year, regrettably causing fatalities of Tourists and others!
Yes it's true. I worked on this film for 1.5 years. We spent three very active weeks on the island and brought a lot of video material. I wanted to show the island as accurately as possible and also leave memories that I could return to every so often. I suspect you miss this place sometimes.
You're right, the island is as beautiful as dangerous. High cliffs, precipices, falling stones, rough sea, slippery paths, thick fog, etc. are dangers that many are unaware of. Common sense is the basis of safety in such places.

Thank you very much. I know the heights are terrifying but the paths along the levadas are well maintained, often concrete. If the weather is suitable and dry, the levadas we visited seemed safe. If it can be said at all that it is safe in the mountains. 🙂
