I agree 100% with this video. 9mm & 5.56 are the best option in a SHTF scenario. Being in good physical condition is probably the most important way to be prepared for a SHTF scenario.
Facts. My AR shoots 223/556 I choose the option of being able to shoot different calibers out my rifle than one.
@@jamesleewilliamsjr.2865 I agree. I like having extra loaded mags as well in case of an emergency.
@@PaulJersey I have a Remington 700 that’s shoots 243. I love the rifle, but I was thinking about trading it in to get a 30-06 or 300 win, but those are hard to find and plus I invest in bullets of 243. I was up in the air about it but I thinking of keeping it. What you think
@@jamesleewilliamsjr.2865 I would keep it myself. It’s a good rifle to have.
@@PaulJersey I was thinking the same thing because good rifles are hard to find now. I would hate to get a higher caliber rifle but sacrifice it for a good quality rifle.
G34/G17/G19
DD or BCM AR15
Ruger PC 9mm - Glock Mags
Remington 870 DM
S&W MP22 or Roger 10/22
S&W Pocket Revolver
.357 Magnum revolver and lever action rifle.
Can shoot .38 special as well, increasing versatility.
Still both are commonly used calibers.
Wheel guns are SIMPLE, and in this caliber goes up to 8 rounds with tremendous stopping power.
Out of a rifle, you can hunt medium size game out to 150 yards and can hold up to 14 rounds.
Finally - it's one caliber and relatively small, so you can carry a lot and it simplifies your inventory.
Alternatives:
.308 rifle. Tremendous power, great range, can also shoot 7.61x51, can shoot surprisingly large game, extremely common rifle caliber(s.)
9x19 - not as powerful as .357 Magnum, but not bad. Not really impressive out of a rifle/carbine, so less versatile. But very common.
12 gauge - can't shoot out of a pistol, but it's incredibly versatile. Range is a bit of a problem, even with slugs. Still though - that's not a bad choice at all.
Just IMHO.
Don't forget the .38 Special also comes in a snake shot round, which is very flexible.
Thank you for the gun information and mentioning training; including fitness.
If and when the SHTF above the level outside of your home; how well do you think the average person would survive?
Owning a gun or guns is a start but most people haven’t been tested in their lives (military service, overnight hikes, bad neighborhoods etc) or even test themselves outside of watching UA-cam.
Hopefully none of us have to pull a trigger against each other because that’s when SHTF for real.
Keep the good content coming
A big shoutout to Robbie and the tremendous barrels Wheaten Arms produces. I bought one several months ago for my 19 and was simply amazed at the improved accuracy the gun produced. It is the best money I have spent on an upgrade.
As a Australian I can say we are experiencing challenging times at the moment. Our society as a whole is divided on many issues related to the pandemic.
Prayers for you brother.
Love the people of Australia but the politicians Australians have voted in are insane. I hope the next election clears them out.
@@bluegrasskid4835 not a foregone outcome. Like the poster said, too many are afraid & ignorant. Just like here.
I have been praying for all of you in Australia ✝️🇺🇸
I hope things ultimately wind up well for the people down under.
Ar15 with cmmg 22 conversion bolt. Best all around, IMHO. 9mm sidearm. 12g Shotgun. High power bolt rifle for hunting.
no 22
I got a keltec sub2000 with the G19 magwell so I can use the same mags in it and my G. absolutely love it. Where I live, my typical range of fire is only 50-150 yrds si it works perfect for my needs as mains. I have others to fill in between but def something to consider. thanks y'all ✌❤
Same with my Ruger PCC, I run a Glock 17 most of the time, and keep that with a couple 33 round mags and a can in a pack together. Most aftermarket mags run fine in it too. The barrel hardly ever gets hot. I'd like to try out one of the Keltecs
Same. Also have a G-17 as well so 3 that share the same mags 👍
The same but with Beretta. Mags are cheap so you can really stock up. Best of all, you can easily fit all of it into a backpack.
@@hedge313 Where do you buy your Glock mags?
@@bluegrasskid4835 my platform is set up on Beretta mags, not Glock. Since the military got rid of Berettas, mags are plentiful at a cheap price.
I’m pretty knowledgeable about fire arms but you guys taught me a thing or two. Keep up the great work!
I used to believe in revolvers as my side arm during SHTF like Civil unrest for the reliability factor , but I have retired mine from front line duty, after watching the rioting in cities last year, the internet and social media make it possible for a large mob to quickly form and many people are now armed with semi auto weapons, so 6 shots and slower reloading just doesn't cut it anymore,
That’s why the cops retired their revolvers after the Miami drug cartel shoot out in the 80s
@@jamesbuchanan3145 those were bank robbers not drug dealers.
Lots of knowledge between y'all! Also, if someone ever grabs the barrel of your gun, pull the trigger and watch how fast they let go. Most criminals aren't prepared for that and you will be able to react before them.
What if it’s a semi, and they grab the slide?
@@gregoryadkins2213 yes but if you watch this episode, the context was a long barreled shotgun. They were specifically talking about a long barreled shotgun and how a shorter barrel is better. Which brought up someone grabbing the barrel of it So, I cant really recall many shotguns with slides. I agree with them, that you need a shorter barrel as a home defense gun, but I also believe 90% of people will let go of your barrel if you send a round off. Context is everything, and the context of this conversation was a shotgun, not handguns, not rifles.
@@gregoryadkins2213 if it's a semi, and they grab the slide, a bullet still fires.
FYI in talking about lever guns. Browning and Henry make lever guns with detachable box magazines. Both make 308 rifle and browning goes up to 30-06 and 300 win mag
Money was limited for me when I bought my first firearm. I could only get one, & chose a 9mm Smith & Wesson. It is not the ideal home defense firearm, but I chose it for three reasons. One, the availability of the ammo, two, a pistol can be concealed & fired both in the home & in public, so it wasn’t just restricted to a “home” gun, & three, I was fortunate enough at the time to live in a home with brick behind the drywall throughout the entire home, which allowed me to worry a bit less about hitting unintended targets. I now own multiple pistols and rifles, & am looking to purchase a couple of 590s or maybe 870s next. If you can only get one firearm to start, I’d personally say go pistol too. Violence doesn’t just pop up at home.
Take a look at the Mossberg Maverick if you are on a budget. Dollar for dollar it is the best value and *works* like a champion. I have yet to hear a single bad review of that gun.
@@jamesbuchanan3145 never owned one, but if money was that my ch of an issue, it would probably be my first choice. Think I’m gonna stick with the 590, though.
@@jamesbuchanan3145 I've been looking at picking one of those up recently.
@@CaesarGB
Get it. They could ask $300 and it would still be a fair price in my opinion.
A lot of the Mossberg 500 add-ons are compatible, including the Shockwave grip and heat shields if you’re into that kinda thing.
About the prepper with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 is genetically influenced and where the body does not produce insulin so they have to get it from an outside the body source. This is genetic and doesn’t have anything to do with weight. Type 2 is from lifestyle choices: overweight, poor diet, etc.
All I can say is stock on insulin as much as possible. I don’t know of another way.
I have type 2 ..which is the result of Agent Orange exposure. I guess you can say that was a lifestyle choice... since I chose to enlist.
I only own 4 guns a CZ bren in 556, Galil Ace in 308, FN 509 9mm, and s&w m&p shield.40 all of which are decent quality and I have thousands of rounds through them without 1 malfunction out of any of them
20ga shotgun with 18.5" barrel and a light is my home defense gun.
Good choice
Thanks Sootch & Robbie. Please keep making these videos they are fantastic and reach and effect more people than you know. Love this week's subject!!!!
In these 5 guns nobody mentions pellet guns some are the same price as a regular gun but the ammo is available and very deadly for small to medium game or big game if you go big bore .50
Garbage
@@dawss I don't understand but consider nobody wants to be shot by a pellet or bb to the face isn't fun
Both My son's own SKS .. extremely accurate easy to work on (clean the piston) hard as nails.. although the Russian embargo hurt the import cheapo ammo.. I believe many other ammo manufacturers from other countries like Serbia ..yu go slavia etc.. will step up production of 762× 39.. in the meantime I have like three to four thousand rounds stored away.. my son's each have about a thousand rounds 762×39
Insulin will last 24 to 30 months in a fridge. 30 days with no refrigeration. I am a type 1 diabetic and I keep 1 year and 3 months worth of it in my fridge and I invested in a solar panel and converter to power my fridge and freezer to ensure it stays cool. Another way is to seal it in PVC and store it under water in the summer 3 feet deep and 12 inches in the snow in the winter. This is what I tested and found worked best.
1. Knights sr15 mod 2 2 .glock 20. That's all I need. I have multiple of each. 5.56 and 10mm will take care of anything you come across. Quality over quanity for firearms.
10 mm over 9mm ? I got a 19x fde might upgrade to a .40 or 10mm ammo is scarce
And nice sr15 working on fn 15 16 inch or might save for dd mk18
Didn't know that about the recommended maintenance schedule for the P226. However unless you shoot a decent amount you probably won't hit that limit for perhaps the life of the gun or as long as you have it. You could shoot a box of 50 a month through it and go 33 years before you might replace the rails or frame.
Another note on the P226 is they are fairly large pistols. I think they're really great and I didn't really notice the relatively higher bore axis compared to the Springfield XD (like a Glock) I used to have, but I got rid of mine partially because it was just too big for my manlet hands (got a P229 instead which I really love). If you're interested in the P226 and don't have big hands I'd try to try one out first and get your hands on it before I bought one.
An anecdotal story about diabetes and my 88-yr old mother in failing health and in hospice for almost one year. My mother is diabetic, had to prick her finger many times a day, had insulin shots, etc. When we thought she was passing, she was put on hospice care, the Docs STOPPED all her insulin, testing, and watching her glucose numbers, etc., because we figured she wasn't long for this world. She's still kicking, has dementia but otherwise, in pretty decent shape, all things considered. She only weighs 80 lbs or so but after one year we recently checked her numbers and they were NORMAL. Go figure. The only thing that changed significantly is her DIET.
along with several good knives and small hatchets. Fire starters.
9mm Ruger pistol,
9mm Ruger takedown carbine,
.22 LR Ruger takedown,
.22 LR pistol,
20 or 12 gauge pump shotgun.
Stock pile ammunition.
Keep it simple!
Mine is Glock 26 gen 3 ❤️.. Maverick 88 (Mossberg) 12 ga 18-1/2 in ..#4 buck ... Marlin papoose breakdown 22.. also Henry AR 7 breakdown 22 I own also...
AR47 is another option. Stopping power and better accuracy than the AK.
Ak rifles are actually quite accurate
AR47‽ Tell me more....
Finally! Ive been waiting for a revisit of top 5 shtf
they always are laughing when the stream starts, love it lol good stuff fellas
Like Beretta 92, P226 & it’s derivatives need short reach triggers & thin grip panels.
The best thing for SHTF is to have more than 5 guns and lots of ammo. Also making sure everyone in your house knows how to use them. If it's just you it's going to be hard to defend anything.
For me, way out in the country in Ky, my top 5 are my 12 gauge semi auto, my 10.5" AR, my 15-22 rifle, and 2 Ruger LCP 380s. It was a simple choice, since these are the only 5 guns I own (besides my immaculate custom safequeen HK P7, which I take out occasionally and wipe down with a fine cloth as I blare Wagner on my home entertainment system)
22lr.... most ppl have no idea how to treat wounds/ wont be in a position to deal w wounds in shtf... can put alot of rds on target quick and accurate/ quiet signature/ can carry ton of ammo. for urban 762x39 for walls/ doors/ cover...
A 10/22 or a S&W AR15-22 w/ 30 round magazines could be used against a group of marauders. A .22 lever action is very handy as well.
The .22lr is incredibly underrated. The ammo is so easily carried and the cost is low.
With accuracy, you could take most North American game. Including a white tail deer easily with in a 100 yards. A head shot with a .22lr drops them dead immediately.
22lr and 7.62x39 are the two must have calibers in shtf imo 👍 also a nice reliable 12ga pump is very versatile for hunting and home defense
If I had to pick ONE gun it would be my Tavor X95. Period. Small, 5.56 ammo, accurate, durable, relatively light and concealable. I would consider my Tavor 7 (7.62) but its heavier and ammo is also much heavier. I would also choose my PS90 over ANY .22 caliber.
G43, PT101AF, 5.56 AR15, SB 20 gauge pump (I like the 20 gauge because it doesn't kick as much as a 12 gauge and inside CQC it will do just fine), 300blk AR15 pistol.
The best gun for SHTF = The gun you already own.
If you do a 5.56, get a 16 inch 1 in 9 twist upper with a .22 lr conversion kit. 1 in 9 works best with 55 grain nato ammo. And have an upper built in 300 blkout. Look into 6.8 SPC for range, but ammo is hard to come by and the bolt is different.
My first gun was taurus 605 357 my second is hi point c9 and third is hi point 380 why hi point because it was what I could afford besides both hi points together cost 300 dollars all together
so tired of 600yd talk... no one is engaging at 600yds, dreaming. 100yds and in, advantage of 762x39 is not just cheap ammo, it penetrates... 223 not so much.
Everyone dreams of a long distance fight but realistically unless your in a overwatch position most fire fights will be within 100-200 yard so a city block. Anything over that and your more one a one off mission
Cheap Ammo? No. Not now. It’s a bad round anyway. AR is much better. And people may well engage at 600 & beyond. Depends on situation. Never let the mob get too close.
@@talisikid1618 in an urban setting there is no 600yd engagement to consider, i will take a 30cal rd weighing almost 3x standard 55gr 223 moving 1/3 slower all day long living where i live... penetration over distance. there's always battlefield pickups. 762x39 will literally go straight through a car - in side and penetrate out the other - 223/ 556 will not. i have seen this, there are vids showing this...
@@southernpartisan1772 i dont disagree on that point... static defense or close to home AK... on the run 22lr and an extar556, 4lb AR pistol w no recoil
what happens if you can not get 9mm ? the 357 can also fire 38spl, I carry a 327mag it also will shoot the 32mag, 32 long and 32s&w
Because you see lots of .327 32mag and 32s&w everywhere 🙄
30-06 is an underated caliber.
Superior to the 308 while beeing as available
Yeah depends on your build most women hate 30-06 because of its kick
my top 5
1. Ruger Precision Rifle = 300 win mag
2. AR-15 A1 or A2 20in barrel = 5.56
3. Ruger PC Carbine = 9mm glock mags
4. Beretta M9A1 = 9mm
5. Kimber 1911 = 45acp or 10mm
1. AR 10
2. AR 15
3. Keltec sub 2000 - Beretta mags
4. Beretta M9A1 - interchangeable mags with Keltec
5. Mossburg 500 20 Ga.
Well, y’all got the Beretta part right at least. 1 out 5 beats zero.
Glad you’ve introduce Robby Wheaton. I have also been buying Glock parts from Wheaton arms since I first saw him on you channel. Just recently bought some trigger kits for my Glock 48’s.
I did not finish, so for preparation I have a small solar unit and a small frig called Chiefman that holds 6 -12 Oz drinks so plenty of room for insulin. I get 5 insulin bottles per month mor than I can use, so I have a surplus. Insulin will keep for 1 year.
Hopefully that answers the question that the lady was asking about diabetes.
I am convinced that any version of the Ruger 10/22 would be the best all-around emergency rifle.
It's not a battle rifle that you use for waging war. A battle rifle, a Real Battle Rifle chambered in a full powered rifle cartridge is necessary for fighting a war.
If you're in need of protecting yourself and your family from humans who are not wearing military style body armor, then I would think a Ruger 10/22 would be acceptable in an emergency situation.
You can carry a Ruger 10/22, and 2,000/3,000 rounds of ammunition vs a Battle Rifle, and 400 rounds of ammunition.
You would be lighter, you could move much better, you wouldn't fatigue as quickly. You wouldn't blow out your fine tuned hearing. You wouldn't hurt your families hearing.
22LR would be more difficult to locate within a forested location or in a city location with the echo.

CZ make the scout pistol which really is a 22 conversion fitted but they are a little expensive but CZ are super quality and beat Glock in the World Championships ! A little complicated to work on in the field but practice makes perfect !Be Blessed.
Least popular pistol caliber that’s available could be the .38 Super if you live in the desert SW and like the 1911 platform. It’s popular in Mexico because military calibers (9mm) are illegal. Used to be used a lot in the US for competition because it hits major power factor but holds more in magazine. I remember it being around in the 2011 ammo crisis. I’ve never owned one so do your own research.
No matter what caliber or gun you use , Hit what you’re aiming at 😂
As of 7-27-22 Classic FA has 7.62x39. 1000 rds. 399.00. Same on 556. I believe both fmj.
Here's my take:
1. Handgun: Definitely an FN Five seveN, 5,7mm, 20+1 shots. Much lighter than a Glock 19 full, easier to shoot, much lower recoil, highly effective (even with anti-septic civilian ammo), and dependable. Buy this first and save up for the next choice. [Never mind all the gizmos, and paraphernalia people weigh down the gun with. As is is good enough, just train better!] { Inter-compatible magazines - irrelevant if you have ONE handgun! Also, it's now 2022 and an ammo shortage - 9mm was one of the first on the scarce list, after .22LR! }
2. Long gun/rifle: Simple choice here - FN SCAR17, in 7,62mm. This is the SOCOM choice for Spec Ops options. Versatile for many applications, and highly reliable and deadly out to 800+m. There is very little one could require more from this rifle that it does not have. I would ensure a good optics installation. [ 24:50 During the 2022 ammo shortage the 7,62 x 39 very quickly became unobtainable! ]
3. 27:58 Shotgun: I would only consider a military shotgun, because it can be used to hunt as well, just as effectively, especially for birds/poultry. It's a no-brainer.
The choice here is: FN SLP (Mk1, 8 shot).
4. The remaining gap is still between the Five seveN and the SCAR. To fill this perfectly the P90 is the answer. Same round as the Five seveN, it complement it perfectly out to ranges where the SCAR takes over! Massive 50 round magazine, light and compact, very ergonomic and easy to shoot (even for small people), and insanely reliable! There is also no reason at all why it can't be used very successfully for hunting small to medium sized game.
[ With NO mag changes this gives 99 shots! With ONE mag change each, this gives 189 shots.
Glock 23, shockwave, ar15 pistol, 10/22, Springfield 03-a3
9mm pistol + AK-M for me. I'm stocked on ammo for this setup and I prefer .30 caliber. I have a 5.56 and love it, but not my go-to.
Carry 200 rounds of 308 is heavy ! But even Helicopters think twice ! Stripper strips are good. Threequarter choke is a good selection can take flying food.Aswell C.P to Full Choke.
The fireing pins in some older AKs are longish and break often hence get USA made replacements ,I had an SKS with 10Round mags which was a super tool but yes 200 to 300 meters was needing better skills.
My 300blk and 12ga mossberg and 5.56, 9mm, 22lr

I feel like a flintlock (maybe even a matchlock) is a good addition to any prep pile. It is possible, if complicated, to create black powder and lead balls with minimal infrastructure (especially with efforts of a small community), and people used to survive for decades in wilderness with those. If we are talking about prolonged sustainability, that's a solid backup.
I’d go with a black powder revolver for self protection and a modern black powder rifle (with rifling) for hunting. You don’t have to go too old school.

Canadians need a pump action rifle that can take readily available 10 round mags. Also, for Canadians, you aren't owning a pistol unless it's fully registered and transport is controlled by the government, to and from the range only.
You can get(still legal)An SKS in Canada.
Maybe top five armor for SHTF is more important than top five guns? Tons of guns are no use when you get fatal wound from a sniper.
9mm of course is always the main go to but 45 and 10mm is just as available. so is 5.7 but it's just expensive but spend it if you got it. not a fan of 22 or 40. why get a 40 when there is 10mm. I dont care about shooting subs in my 300 blk out everybody so pressed about that I only shoot supers
Lever action rifle and revolver in same caliber is always a winner.
For me this is a great option. Also invest in a Lee hand loader and some reloading supplies. My favorite caliber for this is 38/357.
