We did the Ram 5500 with 4:89 gears and Kelderman air ride in the rear and couldn't be happier with the way it works. We did the Classy Chassis hauler body on ours.
I think Ram is missing a large portion of the market by not having a 4500 w/ factory bed configuration. I’d def. e in the marker for one when I upgrade from my CTD 2500 just for the turning radius advantage. I’m tired of needing 3 acres to turn around.
Less than 1% of all the F series are f450 pickups. At least for 2018, it might have broken the 1% barrier by now. The 450 pickup is purely a halo product

Glad you mentioned tire wear, I was thinking it was just my truck. I went from a 1999 single rear wheel 4x4 F-350 with a manual to a 2011 F-450. It’s a nice upgrade but I’m noticing that tires might be an issue. It has the 17” wheels. Don’t know if that contributes anything to the problem. I love the truck though. Thank you for all the great content as it helped with my decision on this truck.
I have to admit the Ford Super Duty is one tough truck and looks amazing. As a whole though the Ram Heavy Duty to me is the superior truck. Even though the Ford measures up in every way, even better in certain areas in exception to the interior.
It depends on how he works, if you are a one station worker then it’s not much salty but if you go from station to station it’s pretty good. When I was a EMT that’s how it was but I along with most others either have another job or raise cattle and some here in Louisiana where I live have cattle and are also in fire department or Police force

Which company out there makes a pickup bed for a chassis cab? Fontaine in Louisville used to offer one for Ford years ago. But no longer needed for them obviously.

I hate when the payload police show up to discussions about 2500 vs. 3500 but as someone that bought a 2019 Ram 2500 in February I do recommend just going 3500 right away. My 2500 tows our 33' travel trailer toy hauler like a dream but now that we're looking at 5th wheels we are going to be a few hundred pounds over on payload. The only downside to the 3500 is your empty ride is going to be a bit rougher with Rams since the suspension is different. My coil sprung 2500 does ride really nice empty and so I do enjoy that aspect. On Fords and GMs there isn't much of a difference because they're just changing how many leafs/overload leafs there are.
For those who dont know, the ram 4500/5500 have less hp and torque than the ram 3500. The ram 3500 is available with the cummins ho which has 1,075 ft lbs of torque. 25 more than the powerstroke. But the regular cummins is in the 4500/5500 trucks with smaller numbers. The ram 4500/5500 trucks can carry and haul more though.
Also the regular cummins is available in the 3500 but you can get the ho if you get the aisin trans. The cummins hi has more hp and torque than the regular cummins.
I might be wrong on this but I believe the way hp is measured is different on higher class trucks. Plus these are work trucks and most companies and owners are more concerned about longevity and not winning at the stoplight dragstrip. They want to get the job done with the best r.o.i. possible. Hopefully when they go to a transmission with more gears they ditch the 68rfe and have the same hp and tq ratings in the whole lineup. Hopefully that transmission is bulletproof as well. I would look at a new ram then. My current 07.5 quad cab is getting a little small in the back for my two kids. The 68rfe is long gone and replaced with a manual because it was very emo and never enjoyed life. As I get older I don't enjoy shifting in town as much anymore. I would live a nice solid automatic behind a cummins as a factory option. The aisin is nice but still there is little you can do to tune it.

I get some crazy tier wear on my F350. I think average ratio I have heard from people is will replace front tires twice before rear tires. Like that hauler body though. Looking to get a truck with that when I get closer to retirement to travel more.
Usually youd wear out the rears first if towing often. might want to get your 350 looked at. also dont get aggressive off road tires. rubber is too soft 1 tons eat them up

I'm on my 4th F450 I have gotten up to 89,000 miles on the rear tires and 75,000 on the front tires. My current 2020 has 12,000 and starting to cup wear front and rear on the stock tires. These are the Continental hybrid. This truck has the Pro backup I have not tried it as of yet but I can say if this is what has changed the way the truck steers I do not like it at all. The 2019 steering is completely different. The 2020 wanders all over I have had the alignment checked out twice at two different shops I'm going to see if I can have the Pro backup disconnected it drives that bad.
$100,000 for the ram limited fully loaded (without out an air ride suspension because that comes rare with the tow-hauling ram trucks nowadays).... $102,450 for the ford limited fully loaded.

I actually bought the truck as a chassis cab. Then I added the air suspension when I was working out in Odessa Texas and saved up in had the bed installed later. Call total probably around 90000
Out of the numerous dodge/ram truck's I and my family owned over the last two decades, the only one we've had electrical issues with is when the previous owner decided he could wire in his own electronics, which caused issues.
Can't take that Ram into California unless you have a CDL. Any pickup with an aftermarket bed towing any trailer, the operator has to have a CDL. They were ticketing and turning away people recently.

Why is the power numbers so low on the 4500 compared to a 3500. Does the F450 keep the power numbers as the F350?
4500s are derated for longevity, 450 pickups are the same as 350s
They need a 5500 pickup option, and Megacab cab and chassis and long box pickup. And put the wide track front axle on all dually trucks.
And it needs to have the High Output with Aisin tranny too!

Absolutely! Just had Kelderman installed on my 5500 and it is night and day difference. As they say. Best bang for the buck.

It rode horrible without the air system on it. The air system helped out little bit but the best benefit was after the Bed was added

It handles and is a lot better than the Spring system without it come installed with. The bed weight in the back significantly helps
