Job well done Suzuki, you hit a jackpot with this new generation of V Strom 1050. Now please release a new version of V Strom 650 asap! I believe the market for 650 are more bigger than the 1050. The 650 or maybe 700 gonna be sells like a hot cakes 🍰
Just back from a 2500 mile road trip on the black 1050xt around Ireland and the UK. I upgraded from the 1000xt and the increased price is worth every penny. Love the cruise control and bike handles like a dream. Used all driver modes and TC settings and power delivery is more linear. Used the bike off road around Worthy Farm Glastonbury Festival site and the bike held up well. I’m 6’4” and this bike is brilliant for tall riders, really comfortable and only minimal wind resistance from the standard screen. Relatively low service costs and bulletproof engine make this a really good buy and would definitely recommend this bike.
Agreed - would buy the yellow one in a heartbeat, especially as it finally has cruise control. Might have to compare with Tiger 900 and BMW F900XR but on looks alone Suzuki wins
It is good to hear about the updates in the equipment, appearance etc. How about the updates in the engine that caused some serious failures in some V-Stroms? Like the stator coils failing or the magnets from the flywheel getting dislocated. These are serious embarrassing failures, why radio silence about them?
Well done Suzuki. Great improvements, now I have to make the bloody difficult decision as to whether or not I trade my 2014 for this new model!! I really like this bike.
Given how many 650 stroms they sell, its interesting that they are launching a re-vamped litre bike first...Any news on how this technology will be applied to the 65 wee?
First Suzuki that I’m seriously tempted by. Toss up between this, the Tracer 900GT and the BMW F900XR. Whatever I choose it’ll be my first dual sport/adventure style bike. Possibly the last bike I purchase and maybe the first brand new. All subject to riding though and that BMW looks mighty tasty.
nice job. looking forward to similar updates on the 650, especially the design modifications and maybe the intelligent breaking system, but not all the features to keep the pricing of the 650 on a reasonable level.
I'd be happy with the new look on the 650, plus cruise control. I'm not confident about the 650 gaining cruise, considering the base 1000cc misses out. Not enamoured with the fussy monochromatic dash though....
I’ve bought three ‘Stroms - new, and collectively used them over 160 000+ trouble free kilometers (‘09, ‘12, ‘15). I’ve been waiting for the November 5th EICMA release like a kid waits for Christmas. However, as a huge fan I’m loath to say it, compared to previous ‘Stroms there are improvements here, but compared to existing models from other manufacturers - especially Honda, KTM, BMW and Triumph, it falls short. Well short. The Wee is still a decent bargain and it has a jewel of an engine, but in my opinion the 1000’s are tying to provide for a tiny demographic that’s too small to justify production. From a loyal customer, good luck Suzuki . . . but, based on what’s being advertised here, if money factors into the decision a lightly used GS, Tiger, Africa Twin or even a ‘14 - ‘19 ‘Strom is a much better purchase.
Ben Haynes, I just rewatched this promotion advertisement, it’s almost as if Suzuki is willfully and embarrassingly blind to what other manufacturers are producing in this segment. I realize you, myself and other likeminded ‘Strom owners expressing the same opinion may not constitute a demographic, but I do wonder how many loyal Stromtroopers have been let down hard by Suzuki’s last liter model. And, the double entendre of “last model” is intentional. Oh well, I’m fairly sure the Wee will continue to sell, but rather than settling up the Big ‘Strom to fail, they really should have simply discontinued; it falls too short when compared against what other manufacturers are providing.
Hey ya know how we flip a bike around fast by powering a few feet up and raised embankment and then use gravity to three point turn around so slickly without arcing into opposite Lane where traffic is? I suppose this new "hill hold" system prevents that? for 30 seconds I think he said? So You forget and now are sitting duck waiting for it to let go of brakes as a big truck barrels around the curve at you?? Not sure how I feel about this "safety" feature! ??? You?
Would look awesome all blacked out. Only thing the screen should be adjustable on the fly like the other adventure bikes. Not having to get off the bike to adjust would be better.
Looks nice. I liked the look of the '14 as well. Less so the interim refresh. I really hope they haven't followed most of the others down the path to distant, oversmoothed, dull-as-dullard e-throttles. The cable throttle was one thing that made the '14 sweet, compared to much of the competition. If anyone can tune an e-throttle right, Suzuki can, but I'm still worried they think "the market" wants help controlling something as simple as a twist grip, or that Euro5 has forced their hand into oversmoothed, slow witted dullness.
Rode the new model today. Throttle in B mode and especially A mode gives good feel and lots of power. Still cant beat a cable for wheelies but I can honestly say the throttle is good and gives instant feedback.
Let’s be clear, by “the latest technology” Suzuki references the technology used on their previous models, not the latest being used by other manufacturers . . . which has been used for years.
It's what the current VStrom should have been, as it's playing catch-up to the oppositions tech bikes, I can't understand why a new 700, wasn't developed along side it, as it showing it's age too.
No, not necessary. Plenty of power for touring cross country with luggage and gear. Can handle any US interstate...though interstate riding sucks. For touring the hiways and byways.

If you forget for a second the design hints to the DR Big (which I owned, when the first version came out back in 1987) this is a DR Big with V2 and latest tech. Keeps me lukewarm cos the DR Big had at least Dakar history which made it desirable, this VStrom is to me "just another ADV bike". Stay safe
The reality in the looks, is that BMW ripped off the original DR Big look on the GS, it should have had a 21inch front to get the engine up , ground clearance has always been a issue for off-road use, the rest is standard Euro5 requirements, but doesn't seem to have a ABS off position, disappointing.
You only have to pump the front brake lever twice and it releases the 'hill control'...If the rider is paying attention, your 'accident' is easily averted.
