Saw all the old movies there. Ben Hur, true grit, the blue max, Lawrence of Arabia. I remember when I would get bored with parts of the movie I would stick my head out the back window of the station wagon and look up at the sky and watch the planes lights in the dark sky and wonder as an eight year old does what would happen to me as I got older and I would be living and who I would marry. Now at 70, I know all of this. In the memories will always be there of those times back in the 1950s and 60s in “The Region.” What wonderful times those were.
I recall going here as a young boy in the 90s with my family. Always used to go to the KFC down the way to get some chicken to eat during the movies. Play a biton the play ground, watch the film..and usually by then, a train was going on by andthat was it, lights out for me and my sister as the gentle rumble of wheel on large stone gravel and train tracks clacking sounded out. Brings a tear to my eyes as a 36 year old man now.
Worked Security in mid 90's. Best job ever. No real problems, watchec free movies, closed place at 2-3:00 am. We had 3 guys on weekends, parked prolly 500 cars. Sorry its gone.
I will never forget the voice that came over the speaker back in the 70's!!! He had an amazing delivery!!!!!

Tons of fun at the Y&W drivein with my friends, and then my kids, sitting in chairs fighting off mosquitos in the back of the truck. Good times.
We miss those days, but at least the 49er in Valparaiso is still operational. It still has the ambience.
The King drive in just closed in Russleville Al 1949 - 2024.
We used to walk in the exit with a lawn chair and setup next to a car, never got chased out once.
