Hi Mike hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a great new year Hope this year you have a prosperous one. Still haven't started my restoration on a lathe. But these videos of your quill is one of the best on UA-cam. Anyway hope your doing well buddy and look forward catching up on your channel. Thanks again for the wonderful video's you share with us.
MIke, Still catching up on all your previous stuff. You have some great music. Camera work on this one was excellent. Glad you walked us through the taper differences. Much better to hear it from someone who knows than try and drag it out of the Machinist Handbook. Now that I have heard it - the handbook will make more sense. _Dan_
Great video. I'm wondering if you considered boring and sleeving to re-machine to #4mt? The sleeve wouldn't have needed to be full length. Perhaps you adress this, I've just started the series.
I probably shouldn't have, that may be why my drills were off center on the second side.. Originaly was going to rough the spindle between centers but I didn't have a dog big enough
Wish I could machine a quill or a spindle for that matter but I can’t get rid of taper. My carriage, saddle, whatever is always giving way on my 13” lathe it’s just not large and rigid enough. It’s close but the best I can get is a .25mm taper and that isn’t cutting it (pun intended).
You couldn't resist using the old power hacksaw, nice video. looking forward to seeing the rest of the project.
Yep
I enjoy this sort of restoration machining. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching
I like the educational aspect in this video--explaining the difference between the tapers. Also like the music.
Thanks
Interesting video and good build
thanks again
Nice job Mike. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks Jeff, Tell Sue I said hello

Great stuff. Looking forward to the following episodes.
Thanks trailer guy,
Very nice job . On my mates early Bridgeport we replaced the spindle so we could use morse taper tooling .
Thanks for watching
I heard the birds and wondered if Keith Fenner snuck into your shop! Right when you covered the ways too :)
Yes there are ducks, chickens and geese around the shop. You may hear a dog bark also.
I watched this for the machining but I also liked the way you used the multiple cameras, roll on part 2
Thanks

I'm looking forward to seeing how you do the final finish, Grind or lap?
love watchin those chips fly
Thanks for watching the video.
thanks for sharing Mike!
thanks for watching
Good video Mike. Looks like a long way to drill & bore.
Yes the drill drill depth is pushing my limit of tooling
Good equipment!
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
Holy Cow, a chop saw is your friend.
Very cool video. Where do you get the cast iron?
Thanks for watching, The cast iron came from mcmaster,
That looks interesting; you could keep both quills and that would make a good selling point, or would it. Just thinking out loud, thanks, Greg.
I was either going to turn an adapter or a new quill, I wanted to preserve the original.
Mike: You should enter that 4-jaw challenge at the bash. You seem pretty fast!
the video was sped up, I am getting better but can't hold a candle to Adam or Fenner.

Looks good, Mike. I still need to catch up on the whole Pratt & Whitney series. There are too many good channels now to keep up with. 8-)
Thanks Jeff
could you get a morse taper reamer and cut the original quill to 4MT?
No not really,
Interesting vie
thanks
why not shorten the original quill back to where it measures 1.2310 and cut the #4 taper
i thought the same , but im not complaining good vid as always
The problem isn't the large end but the degree of taper,
David Grimble I would’ve gone #4 myself it’s far more readily available.
Ist das Mittelalter??
Got to get the math done before the cutting is begun.
Everything is math
I don't understand why both ends were center drilled if you werent going to turn between centers ...

Holy shit math was hard already ,you have to be a genius to calculate in a cave mans system!
Nice shower of chips!
Cast iron turns well
no takers on the bandsaw challenge
I think there were 7 or 8, Videos are coming in
The Backyard Machine Shop OK interested to see the resul
i wonder how fast i could get threw it with a hack saw lol .
Von drehen Nicht viel Ahnung.
