- 1966....#11 U.S. Billboard Hot 100
Original video edited and remastered with HQ stereo sound.
"Dirty Water" is a song by the American rock band The Standells, written by their producer Ed Cobb. The song is a mock paean to the city of Boston, Massachusetts, and its then-famously polluted Boston Harbor and Charles River.
First issued in late 1965 on the Tower label, a subsidiary of Capitol Records, the song debuted April 30, 1966 on the Cash Box charts and peaked at #8. It reached #11 on the Billboard singles charts on June 11. It was the band's first major hit single; their earlier charting record, "The Boy Next Door", had only reached #102 on Billboard's Bubbling Under chart in February 1965.
Dirty Water was also the title of the Standells' most successful LP, their only nationally charting album. This LP charted on both Billboard and Cash Box magazines' charts, peaking at #52 and #39, respectively, during the summer of 1966.

I am a Bruins fan and have been since around 1972. Ray Bourque actually played Junior for my Hometown Verdun Black Hawks just before he was drafted by Boston (Steve Kasper was drafted the following year).
The 60 s music kicked ass. Glad I was alive to hear it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what happens when you have peace and no one is making waves
Smooth as silk and hard as whiskey.
Garage Band perfection! Love it! 1966, what a great year for tunes. Thanks so much!
'66 was a great year for sure. Thanks Jim!
My daughter is flying for the first time....and she's going to Boston.
Hope She loves it
His kick drum makes this song!
No, I'm not from Boston. I'm a Western New Yorker. This is one of my favorite 60s songs and I'm still rockin to it at 69 years old 😂
Neither were they!
🌈 Jah Bless 🌈 singing about Boston, when in reality, these guys were from LA, just like me!
My first favorite song.
The American Rolling Stones🎸🎵
I'd recognize those Mike Douglas graphics anywhere!!😂
If you are a Boston Bruin's fan - then you've been hearing this played at the end of their home games wins A LOT this year. Best record in the league, plus they recently got to 100 point faster than any NHL team in the history of the game. WOOOOO!!
Song recorded by a California band.

Now for the 18 time NBA champions The Boston Celtics this is for you 2023-2024 NBA champions The Boston Celtics hell yeah
Nice chunk out of the ride cymbal.
Love this song
Looks and sounds great Sammy! Thanks! 👍👍
Thanks Chris!
Looks like exceptionally skinny bass drum !
Playing along with their record, pretty obvious, hearing cymbals and drums not being hit. The other cut of them playing with their record on youtube is better. The drummer has some cool hand moves in the other video, where this one is just to get the band on TV. Great song either way. I'd like to hear how this sounded live back then.
Very good syncing the video with the music!!
What?????
💎thanks
You got me on this one.May have heard it before but don't remember hearing it on radio here in Saskatchewan in the 60s
I'm not sure if it charted in Canada.
i Googled song for Canada..looks like it peaked at #11 in '65 nationally.Local charts in Moose Jaw or Regina don't show it anywhere in '65...thats why i never heard it before...I guess..lol
Very good matching of stereo to video Sammy.
Thanks again Jacob.
Maybe it's my feed but the syncing was horrible
I knew Dick Dodd during the late 1980's God he was so cool.
He made a whole audio take for me with introductions for every song. "This is for my friend Ed. These are demo tapes" and so on. Coolest guy I ever met.
Producer Ed Cobb, who wrote this song, was mugged at Charles river
Think this may have been from The Mike Douglas Show.
drummer is lead vocals? cool voice
Herman Munster thought they were boss!
I dont know that group in 66 listen the radio never hear that song on radio in france excuse me
Anyone know what key that Harmonica is in?
1question all album is rock?
I dont know
There is nothing "new" about this recording. It is simulated stereo. The song was recorded in 3 track mono. Track #1 Voice, Track #2 BG vocals, Track #3 instruments.
Are they wearing GO GO Boots or Short Shorts ? It's hard to tell LMAO
Why isn't this in Fallout 4?
ΑΩ
So no one really Knows who actually sings the lead here.
The gorgeous drummer.
I remembers this artist, micki.played on dummers .a leads voicals, did makes this ..ly..up but his records was banned off the radios, that's too.. bad Shantel, yous new englanders, did'nt passed.. but you's gots a invitational, on the Mike Douglas, shows, and Holly woods squares, there's individually, liked yours poetry, and others thought, this songs not pro..eithers, sadly, I can sees he's said f and b words, not satisfied, even.. the lysis, its'nt dreadfully,
Is that you, ChatGPT??
Too bad the music and the musicians aren't in sync. Great song though.
Lip sync, notice no electric cord going to guitars 🎸
Really?? Well spotted, who would have guessed?
@@garethwatton6516 I read the networks would would not allow "rock bands" to play their music live. many people were weary of "rock music" still. In the 60's the FCC had very strict rules and the networks would get fined or worse, if some disallowed words were said on air. As most of these shows were done live.
