i'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the old style of bars routines is far more interesting to watch. Everything now looks like I've seen it a billion times before, even the real "difficult" transitions and dismounts...There was something more artistic about the old way they thought up their routines
And my understanding is Nelli Kim herself has had a lot to do with how the sport and code have evolved to this point? Doesn’t she currently serve in some leadership role? I’m sure she’d be able to explain the logic behind the changes. But yeah…Agreed. Miss the ART in artistic gymnastics!
The tricks of today are pretty astounding. Some of the moves you see here are no longer physically possible because the bars have been moved so far apart to accomodate bigger tricks, sadly eliminating numerous stunts from possibility.
Wow: very different! If I was still coaching I'd be showing some of these older routines to my gymnasts and encouraging them to try some of these novel moves. One can get tired of so many giants in a row.
Mindrolling did your kids do beat, cast, and fly backwards catching top bar behind them? If I were coach I would be a nervous spot. Not so much on floor.
Best gymnast ever in my opinion. The grace and technick is never seen anymore. Plus she was an example for sovjet sport and special for gymnastics. To much underrated in my opinion in compare with comaneci.
I agree 100% and though I was terrible I was in gymnastics and I'll never forget that Olga did that slip through from the high bar but this was after she did the flip. Has anyone else done that?
how comes gymnast dont do routines like this at all? and we are in year 2012. such a let down LOL.im almost bored watching gymnastics this year. olympics has been like okayyyyyy can we see some tricks or something. dammmmmmmmm
Nelli used to have different routines for almost every championship. For the Olympics she has a different one she took away some elemnts like the handstand and she add new ones. But compared with others rotines of the competition it look inferior.
While other five finalists got 9.90, Nelli got 9.85 and got no medal. I guess the right decision. Melita Ruhn and Steffi Krakker had more difficult routine. Filatova was really lucky to tie for bronze with them. Nadia, in spite of perfect 10 in AA, was not in the final.
I don't know how anyone could call Melita Ruhn's routine on bars difficult and I have read that word more than once. Kraker yes, but Ruhn had no releases or saltos in her bar routine. All she does is swing and swing.
You are overly touchy. You asked for what I thought, I provided you with facts about how the bars and code of points had changed (with nothing malicious said), and you freaked out telling me to get a life. You obviously cannot accept that someone knows more about this sport and merely tried to inform you. Grow up.
Firstly, this is uneven bars, not balance beam. Secondly, the bars were much closer together then than they are now, allowing for types of skills that are not possible now. Thirdly, the code of points has drastically changed.

Many people are with you pal...
Some of those moves can no longer be done because of the farther distance of today's uneven bars from each other.

My thoughts exactly!
@@EphesianRoseMiss the "ART"? You guys just say anything.
The one and only Nellie Kim!
Extremely difficult and artistic at the same time.
Magnificent!

This was fucking mind-blowing technicality and art injected by the Soviets into the gymnastics standards even unmatched today.
👏 👏 👏
OMG, what a dismount...
jesus, this makes the recent bar routines look like shit!
Think the world of her, my Mum is 92 , and she loves Gymnastics since the 1950S, BUT As she says Nelli, so pretty and elegant. ❤❤
that's a very hard routine for that period!

Incredible

I agree. I think she was better than Nadia and should have won in 1976, People forget she earned 2 tens also in Montreal
Wow someone who shares my opinions.
I think she was awesome on the vault and floor, and this bars routine was impressive also
We agree. Greetings from Tallinn Estonia
Nellie is way more important for gymnastics than people give her credit for. In fact, that whole mid to late 70s Soviet lineup is just amazing.

Love that dismount! I saw someone doing that in ncaa but I forgot who she is.
Wow impressive 🙂🙂 i did not expect that dismount. Old school UBs are so cool and a joy to watch
Just plain AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good lord!
that dismount was cool!
Love old school bar routines! Thanks.
I'm surprised she didn't name this dismount after herself, despite skills like it no longer being allowed 💀
Супер сложная комбинация!!!
Такой набор оригинальных элементов - высший класс!
Very interesting transition from the high bar to the low bar!
awesome , Nellie Kim
That was wild....so out of the norm routine, but I love it
I agree 100% and though I was terrible I was in gymnastics and I'll never forget that Olga did that slip through from the high bar but this was after she did the flip. Has anyone else done that?
Okay nellie, challenge accepted.

The bars are too far apart now for most of the transitions Nellie was doing here.
Alright Nellie Kim!
wow, that routine was way cool
Nice routine! very entertaining to watch.
That was the most interesting routine Ive ever seen actually. Wish there were a clearer video though.
The old school bar routines were far more interesting…more creative and inventive moves.
wow I've never seen that before and it looks so great with inedite movements...what whas the score she got?

I really do miss seeing the things they could do when the bars were close together.
what was the score .... that was awesome loved the exit :)
The dismount is risky😮
No handstand, Nelli??
That' s why you were given no medal in spite of the original dismount
Owwww!
Why were her scores so low?
Fantastic routine.
That was just Bizarre! Very interesting though!! Neat to see this old school gymnastics!
and runs WAG for the FIG
10
that was very old school for 1980
True. Because from the 80s til now, bars were already modified to be like they are today.
+Tsarevna Hilda No, even compared to the routines of 1980 it was retro lol.
queria sabe ser na ginastica artistica
de hoje ainda pode faze esses movimentos nas
barras ou paralelas assimétricas ?
Não
split legged moonsault dismount

Oh please what? Attitude on a stick is what we call you.
@MrsShazziePepper1996 yes I think so too
It must be a Liukin routine back then :O
