    While you were on Ellesmere, I was on Axel Heiberg. You had better weather! There was a cold front sitting over Greenland which would not quit and provided the area, where we were, with more rain in the “polar desert” than usual.
    Great that you saw so much wildlife!

      Axel Heiberg was stunning from the plane! Thanks for dropping by;very cool to hear your high arctic experience on Axel Heiberg.

    I’ve always had an obsession with wanting to visit places on earth with little human civilization, like some pacific islands and the Amazon, this is now one of them ❤️ just one of the most unique kinds of terrain that you can find, looks like another planet!

      sadly if you go visit amazon its less remote than you think. ofc you have parts where no people live but its almost not doable to get to those places

    The landscape there is really awesome ! The sense of solitude you get in places like this is unique. The words "you are on your own" really have a meaning there. I am surprised though -maybe it's just me who doesn't see it but you guys did not seem to carry a gun with you. Not for hunting of course but for self defense.

    • @SteveRuuthSJR
      @SteveRuuthSJR  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for dropping by and commenting, Cristian. We really enjoyed the solitude, landscapes, and the self reliance aspects. Visitors can't take a gun in the park (except perhaps for Inuit people). We think this part of park is OK for us without a gun -and we did have bear spray. Some parts of the arctic have higher risks though!

    Fantastic video. Elsemere is on my list. This video was like a taste test for the real thing. I like the monolog over pictures. You have shown me something easy and entertaining I can do without carrying too much stuff. And I am 63 and no one would be excited by my modelling :) . Long lens for muskox and good cheap camera and off I go. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

    Fascinating. My goal is to one day explore the Arctic landscape. Can you share the map of the trail and necessary skills/equipment to conquer the journey ?

    • @SteveRuuthSJR
      @SteveRuuthSJR  Місяць тому

      Hi Minh, here's the map gotrekkers.com/copy-of-ellesmere-island-ad-astra-area-map/
      The skills/equipment question is tougher to answer. I started with long backpacking trips in less isolated regions of about 10days. Once I felt ready to tackle a far northern trip, I contacted the parks service. They have lots of info specific to the region. Super helpful. If you are preparing for a northern trip, feel free to contact me and we can do a Zoom call.

    Wow you went to Ellesmere? Part of that is more north than Svalbard! Ellesmere is I think on BBC Earth Arctic show where the artic foxes die of starvation. So barren and frigid. Impressed you saw it in person.

      Thanks for dropping by my channel Archie. If they are running a Top of the World Charter, that will probably be your best option. Ask the Park about it if it isn't on the web page. I'd expect the price to be at least 10k pp from Resolute. If they don't run a charter, you might have to hire one, costing as a guess, maybe CAD80k return from Resolute.

    Does a handheld compass work there?

    • @SteveRuuthSJR
      @SteveRuuthSJR  8 місяців тому +1

      Great question. I didn't try, although would be fun to check. I recall that the Park toid us that compasses are unreliable and to use gps units.

      @@Naser_Gharbeen We went with parks Canada. I don't know if they still run the charter, but you can ask: parks.canada.ca/pn-np/nu/quttinirpaaq/visit
      Also, Blackfeather sometimes runs guided (but more pricey) trips.

    Interesting trip but I am questioning the use of still shots. Why not just make a real video and drop the photos. This is a video platform after all, not a photo posting site.

    • @SteveRuuthSJR
      @SteveRuuthSJR  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for an interesting comment. I use the best footage available for the story, with a bias towards video. As it turns out, sometimes there is no video, or only poor quality video. In this trip Glen's gopro was lost, and with it a lot of great video.
