- The Bill sets out requirements for firms collecting data online, with exceptions for the Government and law enforcement agencies. The Bill, now headed to the Upper House, also amends the Right to Information Act, 2005 to remove public interest exemptions on disclosing personal information.

There has never been any privacy, once you are with any electronic connection and transaction, you are traceable
RTI doesn't give out personal information of employees.
I guess Clause 44 (2) is for American companies. A kind of repeat of Union Carbide. Maybe in return, India is getting something else.
Many breaches of ID are from Govt websites. The enforcement of compliance should be checked for govt websites too, including penalty.

I think for a big giant companies like fb, google, etc the fine of Rs 250 crores or Rs 500 crores is actually less,these amount must be minimum in nature.. 🇮🇳🇮🇳

Data protection has always been a topic of hot deliberation,debate and contestations in expert circles and higher echelons of government. As data becomes cheaper and cost to protect it is rising it lacks political will and administrative proactiveness to safeguard it. The issue got a boost from the Supreme court in the 2017 puttaswamy judgement that recognised the right to privacy as a fundamental right. After messy consultations among parliamentarians, cyber experts and civil society it produced the draft of the bill opposed on the grounds of the role of "big brother"(a term given to the government who spies on citizens) and leeway given to corporates. The ideal bill should have to balance the privacy concerns, National security considerations and ease of compliance for businesses. On consent the government struck the right cord but faltered on granting exemptions to the State and not holding ground on nudging corporates to establish their data centres in india according to their consumer or user base.
Nobody is talking about it will effect our RTI.
Before also bigger politician were able to control tax departments, Ed and more , so they were untouched even by rti , but now small politicians ,civil servants, and many public private group can hide
