Set in the early 20th century, 'The Valley of Fear' is the fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel by the acclaimed British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The story opens with Sherlock Holmes receiving a cryptic message from Fred Porlock, an informant within the criminal organization of Holmes's arch-nemesis, Professor Moriarty. The message warns of a plot against one John Douglas, a country gentleman residing at Birlstone House in England. The investigation reveals Douglas's past as a Pinkerton detective who had infiltrated a criminal gang in Pennsylvania. Themes of ethical ambiguity, justice, and vengeance are explored as Holmes deciphers the clues and sets a trap for the perpetrators.

ah, Ive been looking for this version. thx.
Where is part one where Holmes gets the coded letter from Purlock about Burlstone?
It was in the first 15 minutes or so
It's there, interspersed around @5:50 and @9:10 etc. This version is the excellent BBC dramatization and they don't go into as much detail. An "Unabridged" reading of the book is like 5 1/2 hours.
