Perfect garage right there. Macan for the day to day grind and the Cayman for the fun times. And for less than the price of an optioned 911 turbo. (Based on Australia's inflated luxury car pricing)
I definitely agree with him when he said he can drive the Cayman GTS 'all day long'. That's b/c I have driven the RUF 3400S the most with my Thrustmaster T500RS on GT6 winning the most races.
Track Tests are so Passé !!! Here's an idea, actually test them on our rough British Roads, radical I know ?? !! You're Dutch Sister Channel is so much better and they even do English Subtitles for us on Dutch Speaking viewers, perhaps have a peep and get a few ideas ?? !!
I think Porshe could make the Macan a supercar of sorts if they give it the "Juke GT-R" treatment like Nissan did. Drop it down, give it some fender flares, and some nice wide wheels and it will go from looking like an SUV to a hot hatch, just like the Juke GT-R. A stock Juke looks like a regular, biggish SUV, but after the GT-R treatment, it looks a lot smaller and like it was meant to be a hot hatch from the start. I think Porsche could definitely pull off the same effect with the Macan.
Ruslan X Yeah the Juke is pretty, um, "unique" in it's styling, to put it nicely, especially in stock, cross-over SUV form. But when it's dropped down, given the wider bodywork, etc., it totally looks like it was meant to be a hot hatch from the beginning. Again, I think the same could be done with the Macan, and the BMW X3M. I saw an X3 the other day, and was thinking if they gave it the Juke GT-R treatment, it would totally look like a hot hatch that, again, looks like it was meant to be a hot hatch from the beginning. I think Porsche and BMW are totally ignoring an untapped market by not coming out with assembly line cars with the Juke GT-R treatment. All those cross-over SUVs look pretty big when in stock form, but dropped down and given wider bodywork, again, they totally look a lot smaller and like hot hatches.
Sandra Rios I already placed an order on macan...expecting to get it in january... I wish it would be smaller wider and 2 door but seems like it's not goona heppen any time soon so... It's still a best crossover around thought
Ruslan X Congrats on ordering the Macan. Which trim level? Oh and by the way, the smaller and wider thing is not an issue if you want to get a Juke GT-R look out of it. Firstly, the Juke is a 4 door, but just by dropping it down, and maybe having some bodywork add-ons like different side sills (or maybe even not), like the Juke GT-R, just doing that, it will look way smaller (because again, in stock form, the Juke looks big) and it looks like the Juke and Macan have about the same overall length, so again, just dropping it down and having wheels that fill out the wheel wells (and the Macan looks like it comes with fairly big wheels and low profile tires) and with the fenders that the Macan has, it would definitely look a lot, a lot smaller like the way the Juke GT-R (or Juke-R, as it is officially called) looks like a 4-door hot hatch. I think it would have the same smaller, wider hot hatch look if you choose to go that route. But either way, nice buy with the Macan. I'm sure you're gonna have a lot of fun. People have fun, like in a sportscar way, with the bigger Cayenne, so the Macan will probably give you a load of fun driving experience-wise. Have fun!
LOL at 2:15 they cut to the Macan interior - I was like WTF? did the GTS get an upgraded steering wheel and dash? Nope... an editor got carried away :)
How can the Macan be one of the best sport-SUVs out there (by the way, know what the 'S' in SUV stands for?) when it massively understeers on the limit? How?!
ToxicDonut81 Um, mate on the limit it does. Yes it will power over steer out of a corner but at mid corner and corner entry, on the limit, it understeers. It has to. Both due to physics and the fact 99.9% of drivers are rubbish so almost all cars (excluding the likes of Caterham and anything specialist e.g. GT3, Speciale etc) have understeer dialled into the chassis set up to save lives. This includes the Cayenne.
World Traveler东北 It will understeer. I drive a Cayenne as a daily driver. as good as it is on the road, it is even better off the road. if you're pushing it really over the limit it will understeer mid corner and at corner entry as he said. but it will oversteer on the exit.
just look at who buys the BMW's, people on budget some of them do not even have money and who buys the Porsches, people with the businesses. Good bless Porsche!!!
amazing times where a Porsche GTS coupe has the same price as a compact SUV. I know which one I'd chose, given I'd spent this shit load of money on a car... I'd just buy a skoda or whatever to haul my family around and enjoy every minute of driving for when I have a car all for myself.
Thank God that the monstrous Macan was humiliated. It's a shame that Porsche has to build such rubbish but the revenue does allow them to build proper sports cars I guess.
Monstrous? It's a COMPACT suv. It's roughly the same dimensions as a Q5. And it's rubbish? How so? It is by far the best performing compact suv available. It's refined, fuel efficient, safe, attractive, practical, comfortable, has a decent amount of off road ability while still feeling sportier than most sports cars. It's excellent value for money considering it's excellent build quality, badge image, overall ability and NVH levels, And it's arguably the market leader in it's segment. Even if you don't like it, isn't calling it rubbish a little unfounded and idiotic?
adzmorris Noone is ever going to take a Macan offroad, so why does it need to be so tall and heavy? I understand the point of Porsche making something more pracitical than a sportcar for people, who have kids and so. But I really wish they would make a proper sports sedan like the BMW M3 or M5 instead of these silly SUVs. But as 1seipai write, its dictated by market demand in particular from markets like the US or China, where most buyers are rich car ignorants, who just want the badge.
fundiver198 China is Porsche's fastest growing market and the quality of the roads there are horrible. You're basically driving off road everyday. Australia can be the same. Many major connecting roads are dirt or gravel tracks. The Macan is the perfect balance between a road car but still has decent ground clearance for rubbish roads and huge pot holes. They do make the Panamera for the large sports sedan segment and they are currently working on an M3 rival based on the Audi A4 platform. And although I am an avid sports car fan, the small performance SUV makes so much sense. It will do all the day to day stuff, its so easy to get in and out of, it fits loads of stuff and people, it's comfy over even horrible roads and when you do find an empty winding road, it has the performance abilities to more than put a smile on your face and keep up with even very capable cars. What's not to love?
adzmorris all your statements are right..but since we're talking about Porsche, they aren't anymore..Porsche is a Ferrari and Lambo opponent not BMW, Audi or range rover. Porsche, for all feelings it has created in all sportcar lovers in the world for 60 years, shouldn't build a diesel SUV, under any excuse, enough said.
mou3adh I understand where you are coming from but Porsche's origin was in designing and engineering everything from tanks to tractors to the VW Beetle. I'm a huge fan of the brand due its engineering prowess and sheer ability to get everything it attempts so very right, not just it's incredible sports cars and racing heritage. I have just as much respect for what a Cayenne or Macan can do as I do for a GT2, GT3 (and their RS derivatives) or Turbo S. Trust me, I don't "dream" of owning a Macan or Cayenne as I do the RS's and Turbo 911's but they are still excellent vehicles.
The Cayman would have done a couple seconds better with PDK and probably 5 seconds under even that in sport plus left in full auto. Reviews love to paddle shift though ;)
JUST ONCE, will someone please test the Boxster/Cayman on YouTUbe with the PDK/Chrono launch control option. It is much, much faster than the manual and would have achieved a much faster lap time. There are many tests of Boxsters/caymans on UA-cam, and virtually every single one of them pits the manual against dual clutched spec'd opposition. Please -especially when comparing drag times or lap times, start comparing like with like - IE dual clutch vs dual clutch, not manual vs dual clutch!! It makes a huge difference to the performance.
Having owned both, the answer is no. They are not even remotely comparable, not sure what the fuss is about and why everyone is hellbent to prove the two ton Macan is a sportscar. Anything over 1500kg is not a sportcar by decree. No matter power and vavavoom parts.
Fanboy 2 shoes Either Porsche is stupid for building a car no one can afford, or you're a blithering idiot that can't even use punctuation, let alone spell the word "none". If you're going to try to troll, put some intelligence into it, otherwise you'll look like you're lacking intelligence.
What a stupid test. A Purpose built sports car with manual box and rear wheel drive against a mini SUV with auto and 4x4. A playday for the tester maybe but absolutely useless comparison.
Such a pointless review, I always like AutoExpress but I feel like they are getting cars every week randomly and testing them against each other... This is another example, all what these cars share is a badge and price tag, 2 seater vs 4/5 seater, previous review was RS6 vs Ducati... Come on AutoExpress, you can do better than that!!
Hey Kent you realise he may read this? brilliant edditing ... 2:10 inside the cayman getting ready for the left corner 2:12 left corner but in the Macan 2:16 after the left turn back in the cayman :))
Perfect garage right there. Macan for the day to day grind and the Cayman for the fun times. And for less than the price of an optioned 911 turbo. (Based on Australia's inflated luxury car pricing)
+A.K Morris But 0-60 in 2.6 in the Turbo S...thats more than 99% of Hypercars worth several times more, which makes 911 a bargain itself
2:13 whoops wrong interior ;D
That digital image stabilization is making the car's interiors are made of jello
Great review man! thank you.
I love Porsche.
3:10 he looks like he's about to fall asleep yet he's actually really excited whilst driving the Cayman GTS...
Hehe little editing error at 2:11 :) Still a nice video :)
For the love of all that is good and holy, please don't use image stabilisation for the in car shots.
I definitely agree with him when he said he can drive the Cayman GTS 'all day long'. That's b/c I have driven the RUF 3400S the most with my Thrustmaster T500RS on GT6 winning the most races.
porsche builds the best cars.
Nice Reviews!
Dude do you have two polo shirts on at the same time?
🤣
I'd have them both if money wasn't an issue. This GTS will be my next car. I'd prefer the GT4 but can't stand the wing. Anyway.....
I'd get gts and fix the wing lol
Track Tests are so Passé !!!

Sandra Rios just got the base macan s model in black...because I'm poor lol.
I owned this Cayman😬. No wonder when I traded it in the dealer said it had been tracked a lot. Now I know why
I'm not 100% sure, but I think this Macan had Sport Chrono (I can see clock on the dash) pack which boosts its' 0-60 from 4,8 to 4,6 s.
Please compare the Cayman gts to the Carrera 2s
Very good for a SUV, that can carry all the family!
If can't have both buy the Macan Turbo!
That clip at 2:11 was shot from onside the Macan lol
Next time: Peugeot Pepper Mill vs RCZ. Which one is faster around our track? Subscribe to AE and find out!
Rather redundant calling it a "sports SUV".
Probably not the best place to ask, but can you carry 4 wheels in the cayman? (carrying race rims with slicks for the track)
2:13 thats not the cayman as he drove? look at the side doormirror, its silver, the one he drove was blue
LOL at 2:15 they cut to the Macan interior - I was like WTF? did the GTS get an upgraded steering wheel and dash? Nope... an editor got carried away :)
I would love to own the Cayman GTS. That's my number 1 dream car over any car in this world!♡
What is the blue ones price in American money? Can someone help
+Stampy Cat about 65K
+Haseeb Chowdhury No. about 85k
Beautiful cars, pointless comparison..
Who cares? is fun to watch!
Beautiful!!!!!!!! All Porsches are designed by the blind society.
I don't think anyone has ever wondered how they'd compare on the track, hahaha.. good review, nonetheless.
2014 Cayman GTS is so awesome...
2:12 I noticed the Macan not the Cayman :)
Ive got a macan turbo and OMG that car is sooo fast
2:13-2:15 u can see its the automatic, plus... another body color... hahahah and the review is on a blue manual...
thats just a wild shot of a macan's interior for some reason
wrong video at 2:12 ... seriously Auto Express ;)
why showing the macan interior while driving the cayman at 2:16 ? LOL

ToxicDonut81 so what does the cayenne do when pushed too hard?
World Traveler东北 It will understeer. I drive a Cayenne as a daily driver. as good as it is on the road, it is even better off the road. if you're pushing it really over the limit it will understeer mid corner and at corner entry as he said. but it will oversteer on the exit.

so much awesomeness

Now bring 4 people to fit inside those 2 cars...and we have a clear winner...
Porsche there is no substitute!
The sounds in the backround while he speaks is as if a serial killer is about to attack. WTF?
I'll take one of each.
I will take one of both please.
thing is, neither of these cars feel like anything fast or agile at all on a track. you need to drive a sub 900 kg race car.
While driving the Macan: "If you've gonna be driving it hard on circuit all the time... " ahh no.
Haha this guy is wearing a longsleeve polo on top of a polo wtf, brownfashioncombo
All I want is to drive a cayman with a manual gearbox!!!! I just want to experience a flat 6 engine behind me! Who would like to lend me theirs???
dear porsche, please release the gt3rs already and please make the gt2
2:12 he is driving Macan not Cayman GTS
Great individual cars but ridiculous comparison.
Having owned both, the answer is no. They are not even remotely comparable, not sure what the fuss is about and why everyone is hellbent to prove the two ton Macan is a sportscar. Anything over 1500kg is not a sportcar by decree. No matter power and vavavoom parts.
Fact: The name macan is mean of tiger in indonesian
Wow these cars are ridiculously cheap in Britian! In Norway the Macan turbo costs FROM 129.000 pounds.. : /
An SUV on a racetrack looks funny and out of place!
go see min 2:12 its a diferent car
Macan all day
I'm sure non of you guys can afford one of these vehicles :)
who are you talking about?
***** ignore him, trollls is trolls
Everyone!!!
Fanboy 2 shoes Either Porsche is stupid for building a car no one can afford, or you're a blithering idiot that can't even use punctuation, let alone spell the word "none".

what satisfaction do you get making such a comment?

Porsche Cayman is a suv
are you high or what?
This must be the stupidest comparison I've seen so far... A tiny coupe with a small SUV?
I think it's ridiculous.
what a stupid comparison!!!!!!!!
