The Modular Bathroom Takeover (How It's Made) | Construction Brothers

Have you ever stayed in a Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt Hotel? It’s possible you've used one of these bathroom pods without even knowing it! We wanted to answer the question “How is it made?”
Modular construction is seeing a boom. This lean manufacturing process is helping hotels, hospitals and multi-family owners get their doors open faster providing a massive boost in revenue. Prefabrication isn’t new, but the technology we’re using to create these bathroom pods is absolutely amazing.
Tyler had the opportunity to go visit SurePods, which is a prefabrication company specializing in modular design. Specifically bathroom pods. Their Vice President, Bill Seery, walked Tyler through their manufacturing plant and showed him how it comes together!
Here are a few things that stood out to us!
Productivity - The work is in front of you, and you almost always have the next thing to be working on. This reduces the number of people in "Wandering Mode" which is what you'll see frequently on job sites.
Safety - Since everything is in a controlled environment, it's easier to keep things closer to the ground and in a place that's safer for all employees. In some cases, they have the walls up on tables so they're really comfortable to work on. Each task can be reviewed by a safety officer and adjusted on the fly if needed.
Waste Reduction - Every piece of light gauge they roll has a purpose. They don't just buy light gauge in stock lengths and cut to size, they roll the studs as needed and to the correct length. They’re borrowing methods from the automotive industry, like the “Just In Time” method of production brought about by Toyota’s production system.
Finish - The finished product is immaculate. Multiple people are at the end of the line cleaning every speck of dust off of the tile, sink, mirrors.

Horrible company, can’t keep labor to make a team so how can they make a good product? Many quality control issues, poor management. Pods can’t sit long in Florida. Many experience mildew. Poor atmosphere for laborers, they work them to much and when not busy, they temporarily them off with no pay.
