Well done, mate! The cool thing is that YOU are the one who's shown me that modifying a knife doesn't have to mean you'll ruin it. I have wanted to try some mods, but never dared. Now I do (patern) patina's, squaring off spines, and even tinker with wooden handles. Thank you for that. Cheers! -Bas
Out and About West Thank you for such nice, encouraging words, my friend! I am glad I could help! I have always learned, since I was a kid, that knives are tools and should be treated and modified as such. My uncles and dad would never let me keep cutting tools "nice", but at the same time, taught me to look after them well. I never have the fear of "ruining" them. A big aspect, though, is that I am not one to spend a whole lot on a knife. Mainly because the more expensive the knife, the less apt I am to use it "hard" and do the mods that I like. That is one the many reasons I love Moras so much. Such quality for an outstanding price. I would love to see a video on some of your patinas and handle modifications! Sounds cool! Thank you, Bas, for the continued support, nice words, and your friendship! -Dave
Yep, my Mora's were the first I tried it on as well, and for the same reason. As a child, I too learned how to use a knife and hatchet, but I started with knives that belonged to my uncle and grandpa. Those were heirloom-like works of art, so NO tinkering allowed :-) I think I might also do a show-and-tell about my collection - time permitting. Cheers mate! -Bas
That Hiking Guy We have only grazed the tip of the iceberg, my friend! We have a long way to go :) Thank you for the kind words and I look forward to talking with you again soon! Very nice to hear from you! -Dave
finally got 15min 2sit + thoroughly enjoy this vid, another awesome review and demo :) Love Love Morakniv Monday's !! great job Dave and thx again for highlighting that butterfly notching-very cool!
livinright Thank you for such nice, encouraging words, Lisa! I am so glad you are enjoying Morakniv Mondays, as I am having so much fun doing it! People are going to think that I am paying you for such beautiful comments :) Thank you, so much, my friend! -Dave
Everything going well here, Marco! I hope the same for you, my friend! I love the Mora 510! One of my favorites! Keep me posted on how you are liking it and it's great to hear from you! -Dave
That 510 looks pretty nice. Thanks to your videos I am slowly gaining appreciation for all the different models. I guess that thinner blade is great for fine work. Awesome sheath from Wilderness Kydex! Great video as always!
Smell N Roses Thank you for the kind words! Mora knives absolutely shine when it comes to fine work, especially these smaller scandi blades. I really appreciate you watching and leaving your nice comment, my friend! -Dave
Hello Dave , Another good video to Mora knives! Your suspension system with woodworking with Mora 510 is great. Thank you for sharing! See you soon. Didier
Didier Nomade Hi Didier! Thank you, very much for the nice comment! Mora knives are very good for fine carving tasks. I love them! Thank you for watching, my good friend! It is great to hear from you and I hope everything is going well for you! -Dave
cabotbluegill Thank you, very much, for the kind, encouraging words, my friend! I really appreciate that! I am glad you are enjoying it, as I am having a lot of fun making the series. Great to hear from you and thanks, again, for such a nice comment! -Dave
Their 1095 is super clean. They sharpen up beautifully For the price, you could buy several of them. I use them extensively , even in the kitchen. It's a very versatile little knife. It's much tougher than it looks too.
BluegrassBushcraft Thank you, my good friend! It's very nice to hear from you! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, brother! -Dave
capcon6 Great to hear from you, my friend! I am glad I could help! Mora's factory sheaths are really easy to modify...I like them. Nice talking with you! -Dave
***** Joey does such nice work and he's a great guy! The retention is outstanding on all of his sheaths! Thank you for the kind, encouraging words regarding the series, my friend! I really appreciate that! I look forward to talking with you again soon! BTW, are you back out on the road? Did you get nice and recharged from your vacation? I would ask if you got a lot done but something tells me you did, and then some! -Dave
Say Heah Dave, My new Mora 510 is becoming one of my Fav's neck knives. It's lite and what a slicer. I got it on a bead chain and Oh, I have a Tops (flat) Whistle on it, Kewl Beans huh, Have a Safe one.
I've got a few 511s, but they're only a few millimetres longer. Both are excellent knives and you can't beat them for price. My current favorite is the Companion HD, but I still carry my 511 as well. In fact, I just posted a video on my Mora knife collection - it turns out that almost all the blades I own are Moras and I've put together an interesting collection over the past 27 years.
Alberta Bushcrafter Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave such a nice comment, my friend! It's great to hear from you! I will check out your Mora collection vid! -Dave
phyllis mulkey Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, phyllis! I really appreciate that! I love Mora, very much, as well! You have great taste in knives :) -Dave
Great pronouncing of morakniv, my friend! You are so good in carving! Even in rain. When you are done with your mora knives I can take over with some models I might have and you dont... :) Thank you for sharing! /Ulrica
Gullrica Thank you for the compliment on my pronunciation of Morakniv...I learned from the best :) Thank you for such kind words! You don't have to wait until I am done, my friend (it might be a long time). Any videos you do will be outstanding and loved! It doesn't matter if I have them or not! Also, your videos would be 100x better than mine..your videos are so beautiful! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave such a nice comment...I know you are tired, my sister. Talk with you again, soon! -Dave
Ha ha. Hi Dave, I am not sure I agree with you completely there, my friend. You do very good reviews on knives and I am no good in the technical details on my knives, so I need to read more about that :) I like the idea to continue your morakniv-Mondays. Take care bro.
the 510 is really great for carving and the new 2 mm thick blade makes it even more so. However I still preffer the 2.5 mm thick older model. the grind was higher and it felt more secure in hand probably because of the extra weight. the same modification was made for the 511. the older models were 2.0 mm thick. I realy do not know why they changed that
SpartanJohns I concur on all points, my friend! It amazes me that they got rid of the original 510. Then, they "replaced" it with the 511. Then, rebooted the 510 but it's much more like a modified 511 than the original 510?! It's weird because the original 510 was a solid, all around bushcraft blade. And nowadays, you cannot find a traditional 510 anywhere, including ebay. It's too bad but at least the 510 doesn't have that 511 finger guard! -Dave
Jimmythefish (opusxpn) Thanks for watching, my friend! Great to hear from you! It's an excellent little knife. More substantial testing to come in part2, brother! -Dave
acedecs Thanks, Chris! I will definately talk more about the 511 when we profile it, but I like the 510 so much better (even though the 511 is solid). The black is awesome...I like it a lot. Thanks for watching and it's great to hear from you! -Dave
Say Heah Dave Joey's Sheath defenetly looks like a good Kydex Sheath. But to be brutely honest, I'm very satisfied with the stock sheath it comes with. I think it's a great looking sheath.
I also like the 510 factory sheath, as well as any Mora factory sheath for that matter. Some people hate them but I think they are very functional, especially for the price of a Mora! -Dave
Really cool trick for a cool day. Was that a dovetail joint? I love my 510. It's still my favorite Mora. I have the older original Ray Mears model. and didn't realize there was a difference. Like Denis said, I like it best for carving and general cutting tasks. For me, anymore blade length is just unneeded waste. Great job on the video my friend. A little adverse weather makes it better.. :-)
saradreaming Thank you, Sara! I appreciate such nice words. Its was kind of a modified dovetail/locking joint with butterfly notches. I try to highlight the carving and cutting task that Moras excel at. You are right..sometimes a bit of adversity adds to the video. Thanks for that, my friend :) -Dave
Very nice review Dave. I have the 511 that you spoke of, and like it quite a bit. Maybe not the finger guard though. You're 510 performed very well, great notching skills my friend. ATB Nick.
Nick Harland Thank you for the kind words, Nick! I also like the 511. Nice, solid little knife, however, to be honest, there really isn't anything to like about that finger guard. Always, I mean always, gets in my way. Thank you for the encouraging compliments, my friend! I am very lucky to have you as a subscriber and friend! -Dave
Landrover guru4 Thank you for watching, Matt! I would love to show the spine squaring. Maybe I will touch up the spine of this 510 in part2. It would be my pleasure, my friend! -Dave
Yes, sir! I grew up in a rural part of the Syracuse are and now reside in Rochester! Small world, indeed, my friend! Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment! I love the Mora 510! -Dave
Another outstanding mora knife i like how you costomize the stock sheath i dont have any problem with the stock sheath and dont understand why any would Grate video dave
renemanjr123 Thank you for the kind words! The Mora factory sheaths aren't bad at all. I read somewhere that if Morakniv made better sheaths, that would only cause the price of them to rise. I wouldn't want to see that! Thank for for stopping by and watching, my friend! -Dave
Your kydex guy doesn't have any products listed and I'm not going to create an eBay account just to ask him a question, so can you tell me about what his sheaths run?
Sorry, John, but I don't think Joey is making kydex anymore. I would say just check over there periodically but I haven't seen any activity there in quite some time. -Dave
knifegunguy That is a very kind comment, my friend! Thank you, very much! I am glad I can provide a tiny bit of entertainment on dreary Mondays. I am very far from Monday Night Football, but maybe I can help kill some time in the offseason :) Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! -Dave
Say Heah Dave, F.Y.I. for the viewers. If your planing on getting the Classic one as I did. The two knives virtually the same as far as the blade goes, The only difference I can tell is the 510 has a plastic handle and the Classic #1 has that Redish wood handle. It's hard to pick what handle is better. I do like the plastic handle how it fits my hand, I seems to feel I have more grip on the plastic handle of the 510, If only I knew. But at those prices there's no sweat, I'll just get the longer blade Classic . Now, What steel should I get it in, Carbon or Stainless ? I read that Mora uses the 12c27 Stainless and that Ice Skates are made out of that steel goo, and heaven knows the beating my Hockey Skates took, WoS, That's why some say they find very kettle difference between the two as far as edge retention. and it's easier to take care of. I know, I'll get one of each, Since I do like the larger knife. I think Cody Londin has the carbon Classic #1 and he used that knife since 1992 ? WoW, It's still holding up except some of the blade was sharpened off from sharpening it all these years. I would say that's awesome wouldn't you, Dave ?
I love this knife! So simple but utilitarian! I use it in the field to peel potatoes and general food prep.
I enjoy this knife very much, too, Johnny! One of my absolute favorites! Thank you for taking the time watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave
Well done, mate!

Like the sheath add ons with no permanent changes to the sheath!
I'm happy they make the 510 again as the guards at both ends of the 511
bother me.
