  • As the minivan fades to the background, the crossover SUV takes the spotlight. The 2018 Kia Sorento EX V6 is the minivan replacement for a new generation. Read our full review: goo.gl/j1pPb7
    Many families in North America grew up with a minivan in their driveway, whether it was one of the many American-made, Japanese imports, or badge engineered novelties, the minivan helped shape the way families moved in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Now that those kids have all grown up and are starting their own families, they're looking for something just as big, spacious, and affordable to haul their growing family around. Goodbye minivan, hello mid-size crossover SUV.
    Our Spotlight is on the ever-popular 2018 Kia Sorento EX V6. We know the 2019 model was announced and shown off at the Canadian International Auto Show several weeks ago, but buyers won't be able to get their hands on that facelift for a while, and the 2018 still has plenty to offer those looking for a three-row crossover. Our full tour and review of the Sorento goes over all the features of the EX V6 model, along with a driving segment about how the car performs on the road.
    We have the specs for this 7 passenger crossover SUV along with what we think are the plusses and misses when it comes to this affordable vehicle. We go over some of the features such as front heated seats, heated steering wheel, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, side window sun shades, power rear lift-gate, automatic power-folding mirrors, and the power and performance of the V6 engine.
    Our Spotlight episodes are in-depth and focused on the vehicle we're reviewing. We try to get as much information into each episode as possible, but if you have a question about something specific please leave a comment below and we'll do our best to answer it.

    I cannot think of any other car company and/or manufacturer that has risen so fast And has actually made bigger name car companies rethink their styling, warranties and quality. Way to go Hyundai/Kia!!! Great review by the way as always.....

      We agree, Kia has definitely made serious headway with their cars to enhance not only the quality and look of the cars, but their image in general. We think these still make great cars for the average consumer, but would like to see some updates to the interiors. Lots of plastic, which isn't bad for the average buyer, but nice to have different materials when possible.

    Bought a 2016 a month ago with 116k miles. Noticed it was overheating the next day. Took it back, said nothing was wrong. Got back, started overheating again. Put a thermostat in, didn't help. Used 3 gallons of coolant in a weekend. Took to a local mechanic, most like a blown head gasket. Luckily the dealership took it back and we traded for a 2013 Honda Pilot. So far so good with the Honda.

      I know that feeling unfortunately, buying something you want only to find out it's got some troubles that aren't worth it. In fact we're publishing a video on that tomorrow morning. The Sorento you had might have been mistreated by the previous owner, perhaps they weren't doing the maintenance when they were supposed to, as a blown head gasket that early on isn't normal.

    My friend has one of these, I really like it, but I’ll say this about our minivan vs. we have an AWD Toyota Sienna and two kids (7 and 9) and they have a six month old. We met them for camping. They had the back absolutely packed, they had a roof cargo thing which was busting at the seams and their front seat and floorboard was absolutely full of stuff also (one sat in the back with the baby). We on the other hand had everything in the back, the kids had their seats fully reclined and we bought almost all the drinks, food and all of our luggage plus’s three fold up twin cots for the tent. Anyway, I’m not knocking it, but with the AWD of the Sienna it’s impossible to beat the family room and everything offered. But, as my wife USED to say, his wife will never get a minivan LOL. Like I said I really loved the look and how it drove. I’d say a normal family with up to two kids and normal luggage for travel it’s probably great. But if you haven’t driven in a minivan, check it out, it’s hard to beat it with a family of two kids or more. I will also say they had to move the passenger seat up in order to put in the infant car seat. I’d love to have one as a second car with actual lock 4WD. Great review.

      Minivans are great options, and we often talk about how they offer a lot more flexibility over the crossovers in the same price range. We recently drove the new Chrysler Pacifica AWD and really liked it. We've also got the new Kia Carnival booked for tomorrow, so stay tuned next week for an episode on that!

    Good honest review that I think summarizes this vehicle well. It is good but not great. I am ok getting one as a rental but would not buy one with for myself. Not needing a 3rd row I would get a Ford Edge that is better built, quieter and handles better.

      You can be sure Ford Edge is not better build. I own Santa Fe xl and my neighbour works at the plant where the edge is built. He often comments how the fit and finish on the Hyundai is vastly superior to Edge. The other two points you could be right. My santa fe after 3 years and 50000 km has yet to have any repair.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому +1

      It's hard to say about quality, at least in the long term. We found the Mazda CX-9 Signature and GT to have more going for it, but both trims were more than this, in fact the absolute base model CX-9 is about $1k more than this. The Pilot and Highlander both seem to have a lot of features, and really it's hard to beat either one for long term reliability.

      Sony H K We just purchased a 2018 LX SORENTO, which is not as glitzy as the EX, But in a word, I Am totally IMPRESSED! This vehicle handles and cruises better than any other vehicle we have ever owned, whether a sedan OR SUV. The stats are the same, same engine, same HP, SAME Torque, same 6 speed auto. KIA is Now, and Has Been for some time now the Premiere Upcoming car company. It’s not possible to go wrong with the purchase of ANY of their vehicles.

    with black interiors the car looks more modern, i see the version with beige interiors and wood trims and remimded me an old mercedes :D
    but the overall car is certanly conservative compared to rivals like mazda.
    the only engine available here is the 2.2 liter turbodiesel, with 200hp, but is much less popular than the smaller (and cheaper, because around 45k € MSRP for a well loaded trim is not a joke) kia sportage, hyundai tucson is even more popular.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому

      Diesel would be fun! Maybe not at 200 horses, but still a nice alternative to what we get here. All the Sorentos we've seen out here have black interiors, would be interesting to see how the beige looks though!

    • @Tonyx.yt.
      @Tonyx.yt. 6 років тому +1

      200hp in italy is not a low power, the average horsepower for cars sold here are 105 cv (103hp), seems very low but there's a lot of small cars, in germany is around 140 hp of average, in US 210hp, in canada probably around 180 i think...
      edit, i think was the older model with beige interiors... for the current model there's only black interiors

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому

      Makes sense! Europe also has a much smaller geography than here, I haven't been but it seems like most places are easily reachable without the use of larger highways, so smaller engines make sense. Here in Quebec especially there's nothing between major cities, so we end up doing tonnes of highway driving.

    • @Tonyx.yt.
      @Tonyx.yt. 6 років тому +1

      yes right, large majority of roads are small and narrow, and except plains there's many tight corners, even because a lot of roads are more ancient than cars...
      also 2/3 of italy is mountains (like british columbia for example, just much more population), so even smaller and tighter roads, with a lot of downhills and uphills, but the worst come in old towns and parking lots, around 20% smaller than north american, so a car longer than 4.5 meters should be unconfortable to parking around.
      highway and freeway are comonly used only for long distances or in high population area, for anything else there's just 2 lanes roads.
