Maria, Thanks so much for doing another song request to Jackie. I need to state some info, on the concert Piano player here with Jackie. Right before this song, David Foster stated he doesn't give up his Piano for anybody, but made an exception in this case. We found this young man Conrad Tao, at the ripe old age of 16, he is such a gifted musician. He was amazing in this performance with Jackie, he also played the Violin in the song "Dark Waltz" you recently reacted to. This song Imaginer, was originally "Broken Vow" by Lara Fabian. Lara was asked to write new lyrics to her song , so to be more fitting for Jackie. For this performance, Conrad Tao did personally arranged this version of Imaginer for Jackie. David Foster did ask Conrad if he would for Jackie. Conrad Tao is now a Professor at The Juilliard school of music. Jackie's drive to be an amazing singer, was sparked by her being taken to the movie Phantom of the Opera, at a younger age. At that point she was inspired to sing songs from the movie. Her parents discovered very soon, she was going to be an amazing singer, and wow the world. This was stated during her audition on AGT. As we can see she has definitely done that, and fulfilled her dream, This Dream with Me Concert shows that. Jackie is always amazing, she leaves us speechless most every time, and usually tears running down our cheeks. Thank goodness for Jackie, to warm our hearts & souls, with her talent, and beautiful voice. Thanks again Maria, for a great reaction to Jackie, God Bless, Peace & Love, Tom, from Indiana

Any language can be difficult, but French has so many sounds not heard in English it is VERY difficult to acquire past the early years. The "opera Singer" tag was PUT on her by Simon Cowell and AGT because to many listeners, she SOUNDED like one and it helped AGT's ratings while she was on, but in fact, her voice is NOT operatic, but rather Classical Crossover. The two voice types are QUITE different.

[jordannash] No, Opera and Classical Crossover are NOT that different!1 What makes you think that?? The difference would depend on the singer. Jackie is a Soprano or, because she has this beautiful lower range, could be a Mezzo Soprano. Where is the difference?? Jackie had, at that young of an age, just short of three octaves which indicates she had the range, even at that age, to sing Opera if she chose to. Where is the difference?? A pop singer has, at best, a two octave range (most pop singers can't even make that including Barbra Streisand) which certainly does not put Jackie in that category. Where is the difference??
For me, the Classical Crossover simply means Operatic music can be included because some music like "Phantom Of The Opera, Show Boat and Porgy And Bess would possibly best be suited by an Operatic type voice. Even Renee Fleming can be classified in the Classical Crossover category because she has performed other music besides Opera. If you can explain why those two classifications are "miles apart, please do!!

@@brgilbert2 I agree Jackie could reasonably claim to be soprano, OR mezzo OR contralto because of her range, but she is classified as a soprano because of the range in which her voice sounds most at ease, and specifically a lyric soprano because of the vocal "weight" of her voice.
However, [1] opera singers need squillo training to enhance specific overtones to sing WITHOUT a mic so that their voice carries over the orchestra. That takes YEARS of practice. They need a certain amount of dissonance to make the "carry" work. Someone like Renee Flemming has both carry and a major chord-like voice [which is why 's at the top of the pyramid]. Jackie's overtones are naturally predominantly major chord which is pretty rare. Squillo training would likely have to significantly change Jackie's voice to sing true opera.
[2] Opera categorizes singers into Soprano, mezzo, contralto etc so they qualify to sing certain parts because opera REQUIRES a singer stick to the score in the original key, while Classical Crossover [CC] singers can change keys when using today's equal temperament scale with little effect on the "feeling" of the music. An "equal temperament" scale means each intermediate note is equally SPACED along the scale [ each note including the sharps are ABOUT 5.95% higher in frequency, and each OCTAVE is almost exactly double the octave below it ]. Opera uses older scale divisions which more dramatically affect the "feeling" of a piece sung in a different key because each note is NOT spaced equally. WITHOUT using "equal temperament", a song might sound bright and happy with a major chord sound while in one key, but sound like a dirge in a minor chord harmony if sung in a different key. Equal temperament scales allow a key change without affecting the feeling of the song very much.
CC works well today BECAUSE of the use of equal temperament. A singer can comfortably change the key to suit their voice. Terms like soprano or mezzo lose much of their significance in CC.

Thanks for your reaction. She is phenomenal. However, she is not an opera singer, never wanted to be and was never trained to be. She is and always has been a classical crossover artist with no voice training, just some coaching.......a prodigy......everything she does comes naturally to her. However, she did record 3 opera arias for her Dream With Me album at age 10 which she performed in this PBS concert (Dream With Me in Concert)....."O Mio Babbino Caro", Ombra Mai Fu" and "Nessun Dorma".... all three available on UA-cam. Check them out if you are inclined, particularly Nessun Dorma made famous by Pavarotti. She was labeled an "opera singer" by America's Got Talent because she sang "O Mio Babbino Caro" for her live audition at age 10 and was put into the "opera singer" category. That label has been attached to her ever since despite her efforts to dispel that image. Btw, she finished runner up on AGT to a 30 year old Blues singer. And, at age 23 she remains the most successful solo singer ever to have competed on AGT.

So strange to me why the need to classify Jackie's genres as a singer. Why so important? She was misclassifedand very early in her career and unfortunately labeled as the "world's youngest opera singer". It's hurt her ability to attract young fans to her base of support; and that on the basis of her performing all of 3 arias out of more than 100 songs she's covered over the past 12 years that aren't. "Classical Crossover"? What the heck does that mean to anyone who loves music and are dazzled by how Jackie can and always has brilliantly performed any song from opera to pop to Broadway to religious to jazz. How about just listening to enjoy instead of analyzing to classify.

How about reacting to an older Jackie. Here is a song from her most recent album which was covers of Joni Mitchell's songs. ua-cam.com/video/ie41MihQzmE/v-deo.html
