The Bee Gees - More Than A Woman (RSO Records 1977)

- "More Than a Woman" is a disco song by the British group Bee Gees. It was written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb for the soundtrack to the film Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta. It became a regular feature of the group's live sets from 1997 until Maurice Gibb's death in 2003, and was often coupled with "Night Fever".
The Bee Gees started to record it in from February to March 1977 in Le Château, Hérouville in France, continued it in Criteria Studios in Miami in April, and later in September, the song was finished in Cherokee Studios, Los Angeles.
The soundtrack includes two versions - one by the Bee Gees and the other by Tavares. Both versions are featured in the film as well. The song has been recorded and performed by various artists but in different forms. The Bee Gees did not release this song as a single (though in Italy it peaked at No. 4 in September 1978 and even peaked at #39 in Billboard Easy Listening Charts), yet it has remained a staple on radio and one of their best known songs. An abridged live version of the song performed by the Bee Gees in 1997 is available on both the DVD and CD versions of One Night Only.
The song has also been included on Bee Gees compilations such as Tales from the Brothers Gibb and Their Greatest Hits: The Record. The very first British pressings of Their Greatest Hits: The Record featured the song with a mastering fault, with the audio noticeably dipping to the right briefly during the first verse. This was corrected after several thousand copies had been distributed.
Saturday Night Fever is a 1977 American dance film directed by John Badham and starring John Travolta as Tony Manero, an emotionally immature young man whose weekends are spent visiting a local Brooklyn discotheque; Karen Lynn Gorney as Stephanie Mangano, his dance partner and eventual friend; and Donna Pescow as Annette, Tony's former dance partner and would-be girlfriend. While in the disco, Tony is the king. His care-free youth and weekend dancing help him to temporarily forget the reality of his life: a dead-end job, clashes with his unsupportive and squabbling parents, racial tensions in the local community, and his associations with a gang of macho friends.
The Bee Gees were a pop music group that was formed in 1958. The group's line-up consisted of brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a rock act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s. The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies; Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the late 1970s and 1980s. They wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.
Musician includes Maurice Gibb (bass guitar); Dennis Bryson (drums); Alan Kendall, Barry Gibb (guitar); Blue Weaver (keyboards); Joe Lala (percussion); Albhy Galuten, Bee Gees, Karl Richardson (producers); Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, Robin Gibb (vocals).
Oh, girl I've known you very well
I've seen you growing everyday
I never really looked before
But now you take my breath away
Suddenly you're in my life
Part of everything I do
You got me working day and night
Just trying to keep a hold on you
Here in your arms I found my paradise
My only chance for happiness
And if I lose you now I think I would die
Oh say you'll always be my baby
We can make it shine
We can take forever just a minute at a time
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
There are stories old and true
Of people so in love like you and me
And I can see myself
Let history repeat itself
Reflecting how I feel for you
Thinking about those people then
I know that in a thousand years
I'd fall in love with you again
This is the only way that we should fly
This is the only way to go
And if I lose your love I know I would die
Oh say you'll always be my baby
We can make it shine
We can take forever just a minute at a time
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman

Thank you. I wish the same for you.
In my life, as I drive along or try to fall asleep, I bring to memory a Bee Gee's song...makes me happy & calm. Love mopping the floor & vacuuming with Barry's voice in my mind.
Love all their voices. Just meant Barry's falsetto.

My wife passed away 3 yrs ago and this song still makes me cry ❤
There aren’t words for something so tragic. May the Lord help you through this.
I'm glad you got to experience such love.
❤
I hear you, as i have heard the same from many men. Sadly my wife of 30 years got cancer and i had to give up my career to work from home and look after her and our 3 kids, she did recovered, but 5 years later it came back. For once in my life i prayed to god for her to recover and once again she fought though and recover, and we were able to get on with our lifes. At this point she choice to divorce me, taking my home, plus half my parents home, as my Father had just died and then cleaned out the bank accounts, and the court gave her half of of my pension. I loved her and if she had died i would fill as you do.
😢
When I first met my wife it was love at first sight I sent this song to her ❤ love her till this day ❤
❤*Happy Birthday to Barry Gibb,
who is the only surviving member of the Bee Gees and turned 77:💜
😢
The Bee Gees were magical, and there's never been another act like them.
And never will !! my boys since 1972 ' How can you mend a broken heart' yea baby !!
So, so true.
Im always fighting with myself and what song is better. This one, night fever or staying alive all of them are great in itself..

Best time to be young
Born in the 60’s
Teenager in the 70’s
College student in the 80’s
I long for the beautiful innocent days of my youth
No other time can ever compare !!!
Perfectly said. I was born in 1961.
Can I have the 70’s back please?……
Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about! Those years were magical.
Pleeeeeeaaaase!!!!
Indeed they were magical GhostRider. A professor visited our high school in the 70’s and told us that we were as free as we were ever going to be, and that from then on in, introduced laws were increasingly going to mean less and less individual freedom. Today, I still marvel at that man’s insight.
That kiss, the spin, the pause that seems to last forever... it's a perfect scene. And then that small but pure grin they share just makes the whole scene seem genuine. And the song just pairs perfectly with it all!

Couldn't agree more 😊😊😊❤❤❤
True that! Also, look at Tony's smile as he struts off the floor, and how Stephanie's smiling, strutting, and grinning back. Feels like she's saying, "Don't worry, I got your back, Tony!", and HIS new confidence says, "As long as you do, I'm gonna stand proud!".
I love how they incorporated both of their moves right behind each other this dance scene breaks me because it reminds me of the days when I was young and now I'm middle age I see so many ppl I know and celebrities I admire leave us and it's just so emotional watching a movie from when I was younger. The dance scene is perfect
Looking at this video, brings me back memories with my mom. We say this movie than once when I was young. One of my mom favorites movies. This scene brings me tears, thinking about my mom. A movie will always be my favorite of all time.
Rest in Heaven Mom 🙏🏿🙏🏿
Always will be in my heart ❤️
I saw this movie a few times as a little girl and I still remember its impact. Grease had a bigger impact on me bc of my age but the dance scenes and songs from Saturday Night Fever are beautiful. Bless your Mom!❤
Thank you!! ❤️
My late husband used to say this song reminded him of me. Love it 🥰
He was lucky to have more than a woman in you
So sorry for your loss. I lost my beautiful princepessa in May.
That's so beautiful
I was 12 yrs old in 78. Loved this movie and song then and still do in 24. 👍💪👊
OH hell yeah!🕺
Man, this shit rocks! I know many people don’t like Bee Gees and all that disco stuff, I’m also more into rock, but must admit - Bee Gees were genius! Johny at his best as well.
A lot of ppl love the Bee Gees! They were more than disco, they had beautiful harmony when they sang.
This song brings me to such a calm a joyous state, no matter what’s happening in my life. It’s a timeless gem!!

Me, too!
Me and my mum did this on my 21st birthday!!!!
The dance told the whole story.. The chemistry, their respective strength and charisma, and understanding and consideration of their masculine and feminine roles in harmony without conflict. And the moment their true feelings were revealed with that stare, beautiful embrace, and kiss. Then to smile and strut off with no fear of being seen. Perfection.
Beautifully said! ❤

Who else can listen to this over and over? I was 7 when the movie came out. I know "the good old days" is cliche, but it truly applies as these really were.
One of the best dance scenes from Saturday Night Fever
Most powerful moment in the movie!!
This song sends goose bumps it’s an iconic song
Most sensual and romantic song ever ❤️🇮🇪
Das ist so ein Song, den ich in Endlosschleife hören muss und nicht mehr aufhören kann.
This movie is a classic. People hate on disco Era but just drink a beer or do what you do and watch this movie and you will feel the vibe of the Era. These dance scenes will make you feel it. Such a great time. So much cooler than now
I totally agree! My husband and I love dancing to disco. i feel like its our own little thing but so happy there are people out there that enjoy it as much as we do. I wish there was one massive disco themed party we could all go to. Fun times!!
Swag and class back then❤
I always loved the Disco era. Even in the 80's, I was wearing bell bottoms!

Magical music, magical film and magical times.

Travolta was the man. In these movies he had such good rhythm and is really a great dancer and dance partner. Love these scenes and love this song

I was 16 in 1978 when this beautiful song was put out and let me tell you they were magnificent and listening to it today brings back such beautiful memories of a great time to be alive
I was only 7 then, but it was a fun time, even for us. We danced to DISCO music in PE class and it was a blast.
@@FarmersAreDummies same age, but no 🕺 dancing in pe. you got picked last by the team captains if you weren't athletic. That other movie "my bodyguard" came out the same time, yup. No posters or ads about bullying then, It was your problem not the schools. The school hit you as well, plus the beltings at home. Music was better though.. and no seatbelts and everyone smoked, indoors. on the plus side, it kept them all slim.
I was 14/15 and I thought it was awful. Schmuk, sugary nonsense, muzak…I assumed it was for a society so harshly burned and broken by the Vietnam war, drugs, Watergate, that music was produced as a kind of ‘cushion’ to soften the blow. In no way did I think it was sincere, or that the lyrics had a shred of real life, of the poisoned bittersweet that is adult love - or even teenage love, in it. Then about ten years ago, I revisited The Bee Gees and I see genuineness in it. Matter of fact, I think the brothers were brave. I love The Bee Gees now. Perhaps I am broken down fully or just broken fully, by life.
When one is young, every time is a great time to be alive. Nothing can compete with youth.
What great song excellent vocals Barry kill's it
Bee gees and john travolta will always be legends
First watched this movie because I thought it was just gonna be a movie about disco dancing but it was so much more then that & this dance scene alone tells a lot of the story. This is the 1st time Tony is immersed in a woman’s beauty and connection .
Travolta was a sight to behold, so elegant, beautiful and graceful!
This song is the bomb ❤❤❤❤
This choreography is insanely good.
One of the most complete pop records ever.
I love everything about this. You can feel the heat between them. They make this dance look effortless too. The song is so peaceful and beautiful too. This is one of the greatest songs of all time.

Not a bad comment for a reddie.
We had it all...great movies, songs, disco, all the great singers were just coming into their own right. michael jackson, luther vandross, lionel ritchie, prince, and so many others...
Great song more than a woman, I always liked dancing to this song at the clubs and if you ever had a great woman in your life you will hear this song when you think of her! I've said it before and I will say it again: "If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 80's with all the golden classic movies & music, YOU were blessed!"

Susan Iam 62, Jan 18 1960, from Houston Tx, Fell in love with this movie big Bee Gees fan, they made the soundtrack for another movie, Melody 1971 amazing soundtrack check it out!! let me tell you a story, Bee Gees came to town, June 30, 1979 The Summit - Houston, Texas, sold out within hours couldn't get tickets, at the time earlier in a local radio station they were asking for extras for a movie being filmed at Pasadena Tx, [Urban Cowboy], headed that way with some friends, couldn't get to Gilley's to many people, headed back to town, on the way back we passed by the Summit decided to look for scalpers, lucky us we found them got to the show very good seats!!! so close that our girls got to shake their hands!! they took a break when they came back they announced a special guest, Travolta Joint them, crowd went wild, i have witnessed so many concerts in my life but this one got a special place in my heart, asked my girl to marry me, the mother of my only daughter gave me 2 beautiful grandkids, she passed few years back, what a wonderful times.
I lived through the end of that era. Was at the Palladium, Studio 54 etc. Best days of my life.
This scene (in a movie filled with struggles at home, with friends, self doubt, etc) is the summation of a youth well lived in that moment. 2:50. Beautiful

Amen, and with Disco it was all about fun and dancing.
The 2001 oddssey club in Brooklyn had a stainless steel floor this lighted dancefloor was a idea by John badham it's measurements was 23ft by 16 foot the floors lights flashed to the rhythm of the music ... Great addition to the club ✅😁👍 the club was perfect for the movie Saturday night fever 👍
Also a bit of history on the 2001 oddssey nightclub in Brooklyn it was a caberet club back then a lot of famous artists like Gloria Gaynor etc
The 2001 oddssey club ......was formerly the lounge act stage called the 802 Club that in its heyday spotlighted the likes of Jerry Vale and even Christine Jorgensen in her own cabaret act. Falling on hard times, the owner's son took over the place, wrapped it in mylar and hung up a disco ball. And then came along Robert stigwood and his staff read a article about local guys by nic Cohn called tribal rites of a new Saturday night and Robert stigwood brought the rites to the article n said to John travolta if they ever make this into a movie you would be perfect for the role as Tony manero in Saturday night fever 👍..... The rest is history as they say ...... Great movie they used alot of local Brooklyn locals for the movie .👍🤩
Love me some John Travolta...when people were fun and life was normal
