I'm a new listener to The Archers. , I started Oct 2020 . And all i can say is THANK YOU for this wonderful recording! I can't believe hearing a young Shula's and Neil's voice. Correct me if I'm wrong, I reckon Neil had crush on Shula on this episode . If so , it's kinda interesting that last year 2021 , Shula's got a feeling of "love/crush" towards Neil. ^_^
Carol Tregorran as I live and Breathe. I used to love listening the her. Lovely characters like her husband John and Marjorie Antrabus, Aunt Laura etc. thank you for the nostalgia Can’t believe Neil was there. He’s been in it for over 50 years I reckon
I listened to this every night, and also the Sunday morning extended after which came the Billy Cotton Band show Around the Horn and Navy Lark while eating Sunday Dinner, afternoon tv then the evening episode of the Archers, the official ending of the weekend fading with the theme music, a little more tv bed for 10pm school in the morning, I really feel depressed now lol
Thank you, Victoria. I got a tape recorder for my birthday so I could "sort through all those boxes of tapes cluttering up the attic." Poor Neil, lovestruck on Shula until Susan bowled him over for a pig at the village fete. Back then the six o'clock news was only 15 minutes long, followed by the half-hour comedy slot and then the Archers.
The Archers as I remember it, my family always listed to the Sunday morning omnibus with the introduction by Tom Forrest. Then they added that stupid omnibus yokel theme tune!!!
Yes, you are right about the date, I think but cannot check until I get back home in August. I have all the episodes 1974 -79 on tape. I certainly have this episode.
That must be around 1500 ¼-hour episodes. Putting them on UA-cam might slow the nation down as a few thousand people devote a few hundred hours catching up with the 1970s.
Just been discussing this on Face Book "Archers Appreciation Group" . Penny replied:- "She went out with a Welsh farm boy called Bill Morris in 1975 but I think a more likely cause for concern was Rick Selwyn, a 35 year old jazz fan she met at college. She gave up on him when she found out he was married."
Bruno Milna - nom de plume of actor Norman Painting, who, even posthumously, holds the record for being the longest-serving actor to play the same role (Phil Archer) in any drama in any medium - even longer than William Roache, whose character Ken Barlow was living in Coronation Street even before it started and is still in the programme now - if he stays in it for much longer, he will surpass Norman Painting!
I started listening back in early 62 When i was in Germany RAF now i live in the Philippines AND i find it hard to understand How many gay and crossed sex people seem to be living in a small rural village !!i put it down 2 all the gay / crossed sexed left wing labor employees whom the bbc employ
Love listening again to these old episodes
Thanks for posting

Been listening for over 30 years! It's going down the drain now sadly

How great! I've only been listening to TA since about 2000, but I love hearing old episodes like this.
So good to hear the old voices. Thanx lots
Thanks for uploading this! If there were any more, that would be lovely too.
Thank you, Victoria.

Love the Archers and BBC radio!!!
Been listening solidly since 82'. I have quite a few recorded.
The original recording of the Archers theme music was much better before they re-recorded it digitally. Great to hear this.

😂 since I heard John Finnemore parody...comedy genius 😂 Thanks for sharing. fr Nashville, TN

Not just the U.K. At least one person in Australia will as well!

What a cliffhanger !
Lovely to hear. Thankyou
Listener since 2015
I am so happy that carol is back
Hadn't realised Carol Tregorran had been in it for so long. *goes off to read character's background on website...
Yes, want some tea chap? Aha aha ahadley ha that was a mere chuckling joke gentlemen.
which episode did the traction engine appear in?
Is this the famous chanel of BBC4 ? and is this one of soap opera audios? should I subcribe this chanel to improve my english? someone help me,please.
I'm wondering if this was even early. According to the Beeb (and what would they know) Peggy's first Jack (who features in this clip) died in 1972.
+Jon Mitchell No the date is correct. The Jack in this edition is Philip Garston Jones, the first Jack Wooley.
Neil should have got together with Shula, not a Horror-bin.
Just turned 10.
