- Today, JayMike takes a look at the most iconic football boots ever made. You are sure to recognize all the football boots on the list because it’s football boot silos that have secured their place in history.
Football boots continue to evolve all the time - there is a new update every week it seems. Some silos are dropped by the brands because they are not cool anymore. But some boots just manage to stand the test time and become classics. Some boots have been around since, well, forever! Maradona wore both the Puma King and the Copa Mundial! Puma King was first worn in 1968 by Portugal legend Eusebio and Pele won the 1970 world cup in a pair of Kings.
The adidas Copa Mundial is the best selling football boot of all time and was worn by Zidane, Maradona, lots of other legends! Zidane also wore the adidas Predator football boot silo and the adidas Predator is now tied together with Zidane’s epic performance in the 1998 world cup!
Who can forget about the Nike Mercurial silo - the mythical Nike Mercurial football boot was first worn by the real Ronaldo and has been worn by some of the modern game’s biggest stars!

Beckenbauer, Zico, Zidane, Kempes, Platini, Baresi, the list goes on and on for the Copa Mundial. It was the lightest boot made at the time and is known as the first "modern" boot, standing the test of time as the best-selling boot ever and still competing in the market despite going on 40 years old. That's not to mention current players who've been wearing them as well such as Kaka, Cabaye, Altidore, Neuer, and De Rossi to name a few. And the Mercurial is more iconic because the original Ronaldo wore it and a new version comes out every other year??

I think the ace 16 is because now we have cleats that have no laces, this really changed the market because every brand is trying to make lace less cleats.
Kaio Viegas only really adidas is doing that. Nike and other brands haven't even come close to laceless boots because it does nothing other than a marketing gimmick

think the Nike magista obras due to it being one of the first sock boots and it changed the game of football in the modern era. Putting the focus on the playmakers at a time when boots for power and speed were all the range and adding features to accentuate a player’s control of the ball. The boot making it feel like you can really ping a ball anywhere with the comfort and lock down from the upper.
I just fond a steal on some Puma Kings. Tried them today, loved them! :D

So I'm watching your video right now and I agree with your top 5 minus the fact I would put the Adidas models ahead of the Mercurial. The reason for this is because I personally believe Nike would not have been able to make the Tiempo or the Mercurial from a competitive standpoint if Adidas had not dropped the Copa 1st and the Predator next. I feel Adidas gave Nike the kick in the ass it needed to compete. Nike not so much owes its success to Adidas but the competitive spark it needed to be a giant in football is due.

Hi Jay! Nice choose on the boots! I think that the Nike Tiempo Premier was released in 1994. Romário used to play with those boots. I miss the predators too but I've heard that they are coming back on December... Let's see. ;)

I had troubles with fitting mercurial on my list :PThere was a battle inside Nike between T90 and Mercurial and T90 won. I loved this silo when I was younger - and many of players who wore them like Rooney or Ronaldinho (just before he switched to Tiempo). I would say it is a very honorable mention in my TOP 5.

Ronaldo DID wear a Mercurial in the 1998 World Cup, yeah. Granted, it's not the one I'm holding, which is the Vapor II that came out in 2004 and was worn by both R9 and CR7. But I'm talking about the Mercurial silo as a whole, so the gold Vapor II is just an example of that. /Jay

Kaka after his Adidas contract ran out, he went back to the Copa Mundials end of argument.
How could you put the vapor on that list and not the f50 line?! Not only had the f50 boots been the better (the 2014 f50 is still the best light weight boot of all time in my opinion).
They also had much more influence in todays market than the vapors. I mean the first gen vapor with its synthetic upper had been something we never had before I give you that. But since then the vapor line has always been the same with only minor tweaks. The f50 line on the other hand, put out a number of iconic boots that all were different. I mean the first gen f50 looked awesome and Tunits had been the boots everybody wanted and was hyped about back in the days. They are also the reason why we have mixed soft ground studs now and not only 6 metal studs.
And the Adizeros are the reason why every pair of boot has to be light nowadays.
Might not be the best on the market nowadays but if you are being strict with the meaning of iconic it has to be the Puma King just based on the history and list of players who have worn them over the years.

I think the mercurials should be number 5... they have been changed way too much that it feels they're all different boots. They dont have a signature mercurial element that has been followed since the original boot. Just like the predator has had its striking element, foldover tongue, leather materials that pretty much is what u thought of when u heard the word predator
