I had played horn IV on this piece back when I was in college, and I absolutely loved the 1st movement the most. The feeling of getting to be that fundamental voice of the group that everything builds upon just always felt amazing. The way the sound and the resolutions play out throughout it and the physical sensations of those sounds are something that'll always stick with me.
Such a warmth that truly can only be delivered by horns.

Me too! At some spots I forgot it was old notation and laid it out as if modern... We decided to keep a few of them 😂

@@fedeymini You can really just play the last two movements on old notation except those low Cs and Bbs at the end are pretty hard to hit.

Every movement is so wonderfully distinct and interesting! This horn writing is so amazing because it shows so many different styles and aspects of the horn. I wish there were more horn chamber pieces like this that really use the horn beautifully like this. And the quartet was flawless! Beautiful playing. I especially loved the 4th horn player

Nikolai Tcherepnin's Horn Quartets are gorgeously written and played in this video. All are worth a listen, but be warned... you are in danger of deeply relaxing! Five minutes is #3 - a joyful piece to hear and follow along with the score.

It sounds like you can hear them "punch in" at 3:17. The sound stops abruptly and a new take begins. On beat 2.
    :(
And before somebody says "just enjoy the music, man!", I was trying to. That stood out like a sore thumb.
By the way the best movement is the first one, you all are wrong about the third or the fifth. ;)
