They are awesome! I am so happy they started to taste good. I am going to save the seeds from the next ripe batch and I'll send you some so you can grow them too! I read they grow great in a pot and you can bring them inside in the winter.
I always wonder why tamarillos grafted onto tobacco rootstock aren't poisonous to the consumer since you would think they might be full of nicotine....
I wonder the same, maybe they won't have any at first, but what if after a few years they start to have nicotine in them. Plants are pretty amazing, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was okay at one point and then not after awhile, or maybe a random one would have nicotine! These sure changed over time. They actually taste good! I was reading about something called "Turkey Berry (Solanum torvum) and using it possibly as a rootstock. Tamarillos would be a great crop where I live, but Root-knot nematodes destroy most things in the nightshade family like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and such. I guess turkey berry is edible, I've never heard of it.
