Wonderful! Watching your trek and being reminded as well as reminising how beautiful and magical Norway is. Waiting in anticipation on the story of your new stick companion. :) Cheers and adventure on!
I have a funny story about my Norway stick that never made it into any of my videos, I'll have to share it with you sometime (I think you'd appreciate it!)
Oh, my goodness, Nadine -- I feel so lucky to be your subscriber and for you sharing this pilgrimage. THANK YOU!!!!🙏💖🙏 Sending you best wishes and Buen Camino🙋♀
One of your videos showed up in my UA-cam queue and for some reason I opened it. The name meant nothing to me but in that 14th episode you show a sign with the distance to Trondheim. I've never visited Norway but I know my father's family came from a small town south of Trondheim. It might even be on your path, so perhaps i will follow you. Noting the trail you were on in that 14th episode is one I would love to be walking myself. Have a wonderful adventure Nadine.
Congrats on starting the Gudbrandsdalsleden journey! That first 20km from Oslo to Aaraas Farm sounds like a great start. Norway’s landscapes are just breathtaking - I can only imagine how amazing it must be to walk through them. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, and good luck with the rest of your trek! 🙌
Looking forward to this one, as it's just a short hop across the channel from me. Have a great journey :) And I'm stuck for an idea of what to do with some holiday time in September, this could be it!
September can be really beautiful here. Just remember that further you get into the autumn will you need clothes for different kinds of weather. Since Nadine is going to full way will she cross Dovre, a mountain plateau. So you will see that the nature changes from forrest's to barren mountain landscape.
❤ I love the video! This accommodation looks soo beautiful! Thank you for the honesty about the start, it is a good reminder- that the first day will be hard... I will start on saturday my first trip in the Alps from hut to hut, and I am nervous 😬😂
You have a different English guidebook than I used. There was only the one I go and it wasn't fantastic. Hope your guide is much better! We were lost a lot, but that's part of the journey!
Hi, Nadine. Good to see what goes on in other countries. The internet shows a walking route from Norway to Spain, so I don't know if that has anything at all to do with the yellow arrow. Happy trails.
Shouldn't be necessary with a heavy pack. There are grocery stores everywhere in the Oslo region... 😊 And I didn't now there are shelters in this area. Is it close to Stovner? What's the name of the shelter? I guess it is mostly used by day hikers for lunch rests
I am so glad you walked the East, so did I and my friends. Is your guide in English? We couldn’t find one so I bought the Norwegian one just for the maps! Thank goodness.
Do you have Scandinavian ancestry? I've got some (definitely Danish) so this route certainly appeals .... Europe's calmness & civility is lovely to the current mad world!
The Name of the path is maybe translated with: "God's Fire Gorge together". ????? I tried it but I can't speak Norwegian.😂 Thanks for the pictures. Continue a beautiful path.
@@NadineWalks Mostly will you meet hikers close to Oslo, specially around weekends. Further north will you meet less hikers in my experience. Of course can this change
@@AidaJof I know she will. I think you got me wrong. Around cities will you see a lot of hikers, for day trips to hikes into the woods. Not so often when you get away from the cities. By the way I live in Oslo Actually know a few that have done this trip in the 90s when they opened up the pilgrim trail to Nidaros.
Yes it's definitely a much pricier walk compared to a Camino in Spain or Portugal (or France, or Italy...) The cost is really the most prohibitive thing about this walk- though many carry tents and camping does keep the costs down quite a bit!
I'm not sure how heavy it was because I never weighed it, but the weight is due to the food I was carrying. I brought extra snacks and some 'backup' food from home so this added to the initial weight. But because there really aren't many/any services throughout the stages, you typically need to carry lunch/dinner/snacks, sometimes for several days. And I did have a few extra clothing layers that I wouldn't have brought on a summer Camino!
Hi Nadine, The map in the red box is a “Der Norsk Touristforringen” map. I’m sure before you went, you looked them up. On another note you highlighted the blue and yellow of “IKEA” stores. I wonder if Mr. IKEA, did a Camino, or whether his staff have to do a Camino as part of their entrance qualifications?
I didn't do a ton of research about the differences between the routes- I'd heard that the western route is a bit more scenic, but with less people (though to be honest, there weren't that many on the eastern route!). The ruins of the medieval cathedral in Hamar (which is on the eastern route) was appealing to me, so I went with that!
Norway ain't cheap, but you will not pay 30 euros for that. Coffee would be between 20 and 50 NOK depending on where, and the porridge she bought around 30 NOK. So let's say 6 euro in total. For 30 euro can i buy dinner for 2 in Oslo. Trust me, i live here.
If I’ve learned anything from your videos is that you complain about your heavy pack and how hard things are on your first day. You’ll be fine. I didn’t know this trail existed so I’m here for it.
Nadine, this is what I love about your videos..it's real life & gives me an idea of what to generally expect on the trail. These treks are not all rainbows & butterflies...although there's usually lots of beautiful flora & fauna to delight. 🙂 I find your vids useful as well as fun. It's like I'm walking with you. Keep up the good work. Thanks!👍
This looks so peaceful and beautiful. No crowds. My kind of walk!
Great to see back on the move …
Thank you so much, this is so generous! :)

Yes, an English translation by Ria Warmerdam was just published in Feb of this year! I was so happy to have it :)

No other hikers spotted on that first day! Definitely a quiet route compared to the popular Caminos...

Looking forward to following your journey and hearing about how much things are. Seems to be a bit pricer than Spanish Caminos at first glance.

A pre-requisite to do a Camino for IKEA staff? That's funny😂
Lovely...

Is there a specific reason you chose the Eastern route over the Western route?

What’s the temperature like? Humidity?
The weather was perfect for hiking! (except when it rained...) Low humidity, and temps in the 50s-70s (10-20 celsius)
'Sticking' with tradition. Well done Nadine. following with interest. Thank you.
