挺挺好 sounds more like 'ting ting hao,' and I also saw people in chat saying that the tones for 爺爺 are second and fourth. The second character is actually a fifth tone (neutral, not as stressed), which someone did point out but was immediately dismissed.
Duolingo is really good and pretty easy for people to try to pick up a language. I've been on a 90 day streak learning Japanese, Indonesian, and brushing up on my Spanish.
I just hit 1315 starting with German, then added and juggled Spanish, French, Norwegian, and Finnish. And one lesson of Mandarin (unrelated to this). I'm trying, but it's at least nonzero.
Memorable Moments: (12:32-14:20) -- "Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding hao." (28:11-28:37 + 30:40-31:00) -- The combination of "Board game on the TV" and "Dumbest sentence ever" is a great representation of the loopy hours.
This gives me Dora the Explorer vibes. Specifically the winter one. Save the ice Princess/Queen I think. And yes I did play that at one point in my life. As well as watch this show at one point. Because I just started college this last fall. So I’m probably in the age range.
Funny enough, I remember watching Ni Hao Kai-Lan roughly a decade or longer ago. If I had to judge the show, I'd say it was better than Dora (it's more wholesome and it embraced more on teaching Chinese culture which is nice~), but not as good as say, Go Diego Go, Blue's Clues, and the Backyardigans. Either way, this show was wholesome~.
I wish my Singaporean Mandarin wasn’t so rusty. never learned Hokkien….so many older folk around me only really speak Chinese in one form or the other and it makes me sad I forgot…
This is quite a different experience now compared to catching it at ~3AM, I might be able to remember the game this time
Ni Hao, Kai-Lan (BRB Internacional AU) would be a fanmade version if it was made in 2000 instead of 2008
