MVG needs to up his game again if he wants to be talked about in the same breath as Taylor. He is firmly placed in the Anderson, Wright, Price, Lewis, Part category. He has not really done enough to really elevate him self above those players.
This has nothing to do with the birth year. Taylor started professional Darts in the late 80s/early 90s at the age of around 30. van Gerwen was already a pro as a teenager and very spoiled when it comes to opportunities he got. Back in the 80s it was a lot harder to properly train and really concentrate on Darts. So to answer your question: I guess MVG will end up being an 8-time world champion.

Taylor became a full time darts player (professional!!!) in the late 80s, like I said, and had a tougher way up. MVG became a pro in 2008 and needed 6 years to win his first world title while Taylor won it after just about 2 years after going pro. He dominated the sport for about 2,5 decades and turned darts into an mainstream attraction. Lowe, Reece and Jocky, with all due respect, didnt do that. They made it popular, but not even close to the extend that Phil Taylor has done it. The Power is the reason why MVG is a millionaire just like several other players today. PS: I didnt know that MVG wants to retire at the age of 35. So dont be an arrogant prick pretending to know a lot about this sport just because you allegedly played some tournaments decades ago.
