⚠Please always check if the battery can leak inside the bottle, battery poisoning has been reported in smart bottles ⚠

I am not sure if a leak from a battery can pass through the hard plastic. But thanks. I will keep this in mind and do regular checks :)

Peltier module does what you're looking for but both heating and cooling drinks require extraordinary amounts of energy, add to that the inefficiency of Peltier modules plus the need to vent the other side, that makes it a very very challenging project.
Heating could be done with a simple heating element though. Probably like the ones also used in 3d printers.

I'd like to see it power the device using the heat of the drink.

there are lower consumption peltier modules, i have a couple TEC-04902k16, that is similar to the ones used in neck coolers, i have one of them and it works great and was able to cool me down for 3 hours in a hot kitchen without being too bulky

I was thinking about using these film heating elements. I saw them in some applications, but not sure if they will meet my requirements.

It is nice that someone actually tried to build this even tho already build ones cost 5-10$, and my idea was to make something similar but i used actual smart watch screen and micro-controller but the attempt was unsuccessful. The idea was for me to incorporate such smart thermos into my diet and water intake up that i will begin building soon. I have already started to make a smart digital scale and addition like this would be perfect but the only thing you need is the distance or ultrasonic sensor that will measure how much % of the water is drank and to have a logic to calculate total liters of water filled and emptied (drank) in a day so i don't count it manually like i do with each glass now. If someone will try to do this make sure it will be water sealed because the water can damage the board or battery acid can get inside.

That’s a great idea, using an ultrasonic sensor could definitely make tracking your water intake easier and more efficient. You’re right, ensuring everything is water-sealed is key to protecting the electronics, but it is a bit hard to make them food/ drink safe at the same time. Good luck with your smart scale and future projects!

Cool stuff! You could add a small distance sensor under the cap to measure the distance from the liquid and tell you an esteem of how much is left.

Great idea! However, how can we ensure its leak-tightness while keeping food / drink
      safety in mind?

Good, the bottle option was very interesting, you could think about using it for the gym with counting and resting functions, type of training... and an important function would be to vibrate the phone when you are away from the bottle, this would be interesting so we don't lose it anymore at the gym!

I added a function to provide sound and vibration alerts on the bottle, but having a similar alert on the phone is definitely a great idea.

actuly you can remove the stainless steel from the cap by keeping it in refrigerator and instantly running water on the metal part the plactic part will stay contracted meanwhile the meltal will expand and come off

A liquid level indicator, liquid temperature notifier (cold enough to drink) and uv sanitizer would make nice features

Nice ideas. I dont know how to achieve leak-tightness after a level sensor installation though.

@makersfunduck you'll need to an ultrasonic sensor

How about a timer function? Would be a nice thing to be reminded to remove the tea bags...

It is already there, and you can set it up from your phone using BLE. It utilizes an RTC IC on the board. Additionally, it stops sending reminders between 00:00 and 10:00 to avoid disturbing your sleep.

    Nice project!
You probably already know, but there are plenty of mass manufactured smart mugs and water bottles already on the market. I'm only bringing it up because I work in eWaste and they are frequently recycled, I don't think people ever find them as useful as they think they will when they purchase them. As a result I always end up seeing them as one of the wasteful tech products, something that for most consumers is sadly destined to go straight to the garbage.
Not to put a damper on the work you did here, just wanted to share my experience with the product category. I'm excited to see what else you build in the future.

Thanks for sharing your perspective! It’s true that many tech products, including smart bottles, can end up as eWaste. but I can guarantee that I will not throw this one in the trash :D
