Songelosodelzefiro I agree. I immediately bought the DVD, as I cannot imagine a better performance of Le Compte Ory, and, of course, it marked the birth of Leandro. Not only Juan Diego, but Diana Damrau and Joyce DiDonato were superb in the principal roles, and some excellent singers in the supporting parts. This young woman`s voice is lovely, but Juan Diego acts her off the stage. Love it.
Thank you for the comment. I also think that those incredible three in the principal roles at Met are unparalled till today. The young lady here undoubtedly is a talented singer but her voice IMHO doesn't harmonize well with the voice of JDF - is a bit too sharp - and it seems to me that she doesn't carry the tune at times. Besides, he's a master with his perfect phrasing and his acting here is witty and brilliant.

Yes, for sure! She took part in his masterclass which can be seen in the video uploaded on YT. I agree with You regardless my a bit critical remarks about her - she's talented and I think she has a great future. Bravo for both of them - for the teacher and his charming student!
@@songelosodelzefiro2102 Marina was the rookie here and JDF is an accomplished Rossinian tenor, no wonder the voices don't match. Yet, I heard her in a recent Medée as Dircé and her live performance was remarkably beautiful.
I'd say her legatto sounded very Mozartian in this role, particularly during Act I where Dircé has most of her lines, as if a Mozart character had been pasted into Cherubini's opera, but her young voice can still develop and become a sure choice for belcanto roles.

Amazing duet. After seeing one of JDF's wonderful masterclasses (Petit Palau - Palau de la Música Catalana, Feb 2017) where he taught Marina Monzo, I immediately thought, I would love to hear them in something together. But my wish had already been granted, as this was recorded before the masterclass.

Flórez's French is almost perfect but the soprano's is wrecked. Enunciation and clear diction are of paramount importance as much as a lovely voice.
