I learn a lot by simply cleaning and organizing pantry and bulk food storage. As well as during challenges. Like I won't be buying the wide variety of sauces I seem to keep buying and never use.
Thx for the video! It's my 1st year doing the 3RPC! Your cat does look like a Ragdoll, but he's beautiful!! My husband found an abandoned box with a gray 4 week old kitten in it....after multiple baths to get him clean, he's a Ragdoll! 4 months later and he's an amazing kitty friend to our family!
Today is 1/3. I ordered Azure in Dec and is coming today. It is mostly canning jars because they are the most inexpensive. I have been saving romaine cores and have been growing them on the windowsill- there will be six heads every 2 weeks. I am doing the challenge and setting some money aside for extra good deals on food. Friday, I am picking up 40 pounds of skinless, boneless chicken breast for $48. I will be canning and freezing it-will last into summer.
Hi, new sub here. I’m 73 and happy to say I still can a lot. About 500 jars of veggies, broth, meat and fish this year. I am doing the challenge but with what we have on hand. I am not stocking up on things I will need that I don’t have so will have to purchase things like almond milk, flour and margarine. My goal is to use up as much as I can of what I have on hand. I cook for 3 to 4 adults most of the time and 2 great grandkids that I have in the afternoons 4 days a week. My husband has also planned a benefit fish fry for our local nutrition center in January so there will be things to purchase then. I love Jessica at Three Rivers too.
I just discovered your channel and love listening to you chatter and crash things off camera. :) You are refreshingly unself-concious and quite relatable. I'm also participating in the Three Rivers Pantry Challenge. I'm allowing myself a budget for dairy and fresh produce. In addition, due to my concerns about the economy and potential food shortages/supply-chain issues, I'm including a monthly amount for bulk purchases. The minimum I can buy of an item is six, which should help me avoid impulse purchases of onesy-twosy items and help me thoughtfully consider my bulk purchases.
Welcome Janalyn! Sounds like you have a great plan for the challenge. I’m most concerned about fresh produce as well. Looking forward to hearing from you during the challenge😊
Don't know if this helps, but I learned to create one space for all the foods that don't fit my allowed choices. I then either get it gone, or I cover the shelf with a sheet so I forget it's there on a daily basis. I don't have much self control, so I try to get it gone fast.
Awww love the kitty action..lol My cats are always in my videos..lol it makes it a challenge..😅. We had 2 rag dolls years ago…they were great fur babies. ❤
Thank you Kym. This is all very motivating. I’d like to do the challenge for the amount of time I can. I also have to get rid of a lot of stuff from my parents house. There are three generations of stuff from both sides of my parents family 😩🤦🏼♀️ It’s so overwhelming.
I just found your channel when this video popped into my feed today, so glad it did! I'm doing a freezer inventory today, and planning to follow the same guidelines you are. Can't wait to see your pantry challenge updates!
Welcome and I’m so glad you are here! I’m filming my first pantry challenge meal today for tomorrow plus some decluttering so I hope you will stay tuned!😊
Your plans for 2024 sound like exactly what I’m interested in. Like you, I have inherited so much from family. I’ve been decluttering for the past 2 years now and it’s been life changing. My anxiety is gone and I feel relaxed in my home. Decluttering will be an ongoing process to keep my home and life in order. I love that you are sharing content on this subject. So many of us have way too much stuff! I will have to put some thought into the pantry challenge.
Loved seeing your pantry and thank you for the tips! Unfortunately my pantry is nothing like yours so I won’t be doing the challenge. I don’t have a garden because I live in an association community which prohibits things like that, so I rely on farmers markets in the summer for things I can preserve. It’s not nearly as cost effective as growing your own but it’s been a good alternative and peace of mind of having a nice little ‘stash’ of food. . In 2024 my plan is to be purchasing a freezer and dehydrating more. I’d love to have a freeze dryer but probably wouldn’t be a smart investment for me because of my age. As always loved seeing you and taking away some inspiration from you video!
This is my first time seeing you. I live south of I-70 so not to far from you. I will be doing a partial challenge. I am going to us what I have on hand but will have to get milk and some produce. So will be going to the store and if I see a real good deal I will get it but don't plan on using it till after the challenge.
Good morning Kym, I would love to try this challenge I have so much stuff around I really need to declutter there is many years of things that have not been looked at it will be a challenge for me but I will get it done Hello there Frankie :-)
You are right about doing what is best for your family and your economical situations.I have been doing this for decades and i'm stocked up for the next year, at some of the cheapest prices. So January thru like march, are the months i rarely have to buy anything other than like bread. Not getting down to barely nothing in my pantry is too expensive to restock . Long term pantrys are better when you are prepared for weather disasters, food shortages, economic downturns, etc( i grew up in the north- but now in the south) I canned and ran a cannery- it gets really hot here in the south and i don't use air conditioning, which saves a lot of money here in the south- so excessive canning i have slowed down on. I have 4 deep freezers , 2 kitchens , 2 fridges, etc. which allows me to stock up long term thru-out the year, going into the next year is more expensive! LOL . I grow my food, had chickens and (predator pressure here has gotten crazy), fruit trees, nut, etc So i;m still adding on- with making hot sauces, growing mushrooms, vanilla extract, etc. I'm alone and give away a lot, but slowing it down now with so much, LOL
I love this! Self sufficiency expert you are! I finally started canning outdoors because we get very hot in the summer. That helps. Thanks for sharing and welcome! I look forward to hearing your tips
I'm going to try the challenge also I am ready to empty those jars I filled an awful lot of them up I will be canning while eating but not buying to can it will be emptying my big chest freezer that's full to the brim of things needing canned up still out of my garden and I have 2 more freezers with things in them needing canned oh and I have carrots and apples needing done also I'm going to be busy all winter but I need my jars lol I bought more but I want to keep some incase I ever have to can up my meat freezers this is why we are doing the challenge the first time ever
Thank You Kym. I love Jessica and Three Rivers Homestead ❤ I'm joining the challenge as well I think this will be my 3rd year, even though I'm not a homesteader. I have certain rules and expectations set for myself. Even though I'm about to be an empty nester I need to plan better and smaller meals for me and hubs.
This is my first time seeing your channel and really enjoying it. You made me really make my decision to do the challenge for the two months for the first time. I like a challenge!
I want to try this, but also trying to figure out how to do this without concern I won’t have ‘such and such’ if the grid goes down, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks so much. 💕🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing your how to video on the pantry challenge. I am going to try this this year and just do one month at a time. Merry Christmas my dear enjoy your time with your son . I love you ❤🙏🤗
Hi Kym will definitely be with you on this, I will have to buy fresh stuff though as I don't can or anything like that but I don't plan on going into any big supermarkets because that's where I lose control 😂 I do need alot of reorganization in many ways and this will help along the road. Love seeing Frankie !! say Hi from his aunty Jayne 😍 Love to you all ❤🐈🐔
I'm a diabetic also have Crohn's disease. The majority of the Doctors in Canada don't have a clue on the disease. With me I can't digest fiber, it puts me in a very painful flare-up. And my system doesn't absorb certain vitamins and minerals. My Doc. keeps telling me you need to eat more vegetables. Why I keep reminding him why I can't, he keeps telling me it's all in your head. The last time he said that I finally told him that he needed to read up on the disease.
@thewellnesshomesteader the problem here in Canada, but the doctors won't admit it. When you become a senior with health problems, they won't take you. 🤬
I plan on participating in the pantry challenge this year. I spent 4 days re-organizing my pantry. I’m allowing for fresh dairy, fruit and veggies. I noticed you have the Mary Ruth vitamins…. What is your thoughts on the Mary Ruth?
I don't like buying cookbooks anymore. I just find, If I'm lucky I will only see 1 or 2 recipes that I like. I'll write them down and never open the cookbook again. Big waste of money and takes up space. Thanks for the internet.😂
I also puree white beans to add creamy thickness to soups and sauces. Cuts down fats and increases protein.
Another great suggestion!
I learn a lot by simply cleaning and organizing pantry and bulk food storage. As well as during challenges. Like I won't be buying the wide variety of sauces I seem to keep buying and never use.
I have a few things like that too Victoria!

I know--right? Why do I keep buying things we don't eat?

I've learned to infuse my acv and my avocado oils to help add favor without the salt, sugar, and dairy.
Great suggestion Victoria!
