    My understanding is that on the controlled access highway, it's using the public release navigate on autopilot. So the change in merging behavior may have been unrelated to the new fsd release.

    Letting the wheel slip through your hands when turning seems to be very effective. I have seen CF Tesla use the same technique with great results. Others seem to fight the wheel and complain about how fast or jerky the car steers. However, I am curious how FSD can ever drive and change lanes to satisfy every human’s personal driving style. Some people drive more aggressively than others. You can’t satisfy all the people all the time unless there are more custom settings in FSD.

      Or the A.I. chip eventually learns people's individual driving techniques and mimics it.

      this is the difference between accepting the tech and attempting to control it (as you would) the point is not to customize to everyone's driving style...; the point to provide humans the confidence in its ability. One has to be willing to remove the concept of "what i would do" before confidence can be established.

      @@FIBERINDENVER That will work just fine when passengers no longer have to keep their hands on the wheel. Even then many people may believe the car drives either too slow or too aggressively.

    Highway Auto Pilot is different than FSD. Regular AP still has a long way to go. After all these years it’s still considered a BETA.
    I agree level 5 FSD is a long way away. I find 10.5 a lot better than .4. It gave me a new reason to be optimistic on the BETA. I now have decided to keep my 18 model 3 because it has the FSD already paid for. I have a new Model S Plaid on order, (thank you TSLA), so I’m not trading my M3 as I originally planned. I’m not spending another 10 grand for FSD when now I know I can just rent it when needed. I think before they can truly finish FSD there’s got to be a lot more hardware additions, like more forward mounted cameras and a push for the Federal Highway Regulators to do a more standardization of highway lane markings.
    You sure have a lot of my own feelings towards the new FSD beta. For that reason I’m a new subscriber. Looking forward to more of your videos.

    • @TheTechofTech

      We would've traded in for a Model Y by now, but that complete loss of what we paid for FSD was the deal breaker. Tesla really needs to allow early adopters to transfer FSD to new vehicles.

      @pjdambra 2 роки тому

      @@TheTechofTech.. I told you we think alike. I too was looking to trade for the Y. It would have been my choice if the Y was available in 18. The loss of the FSD was the dealbreaker. I agree, Tesla is shooting them selves in the foot by not allowing transfers on Sofeware purchases. With the Competition picking up, Tesla is missing a big incentive to keep there customers from jumping ship..

    I believe FSD will get there in 2 years time (to public release) FSD is much more on the AI stack and not software 1.0 like autopilot which means it will improve way faster than Autopilot did. It's quite possible that in most scenarios it will feel like level 5 in 2 years.

  • @arthdenton
    @arthdenton 2 роки тому +1

    Yeah but driving at 'speed limit' will not help Tesla improve their software much and, at least where I live, would get you abused in ways you may not want to even imagine. You should test the Beta at 10 miles over speed limit because that's how people drive their cars. At 'speed limit' you are a danger to everyone else and yourself.

    • @TheTechofTech
      @TheTechofTech  2 роки тому

      You should not have to break the law regardless of how many people you think do so in order for the software to succeed. This drive was a good example. You see that some people were driving over the speed limit, but most weren’t, and the ones that were were definitely not doing 10 over.
      Drivers will always have to deal with people driving a speeds different than their own. Both human and computer drivers need to be able to accommodate.

      @@TheTechofTech Maybe you live in Zombieland :)))) but where I live, everybody drives 10 mph over posted speed limit and everyone knows that cops won't stop you unless you drive faster.

    • @TheTechofTech
      @TheTechofTech  2 роки тому

      Rationalize your driving behavior however you want. Your concern about getting rear ended going to speed limit reminds me of the joke about the guy who blows through red lights because his brother does it all the time. He does this at red light after red light after red light until he comes up on a green light, where he slams on his brakes. His passenger asked him, “Why are you stopping? It’s green!”
      “Yeah, but my brother might be coming the other way!”

    Ultimately, if Automobiles become Fully Self Driving they should get cheaper....no steering wheel, dashboards, gauges/screens among so many other parts...will color and styling matter ? ..... They should just become commodity shoeboxes with seat belts......hmmmm...but why would we need seatbelts? This "future" looks boring.

      If you live in a snowy climate don't expect FSD to drive during snow/ice storms in the next 5 years. So either the vehicle needs pedals for a human to drive or you simply stay off the roads which is probably good advice regardless. Will be very interesting this winter to watch videos of FSD with snow covering the road. There is a reason Waymo started out in Arizona.

  • @loganrossignol
    @loganrossignol 2 роки тому +4

    I think the reason the car didn't merge at 7:23 is because FSD isn't allowed to go faster than the top speed that is set, in this case, 60. I see this problem a lot where the car can't do a thing that it should otherwise be able to do because the car won't go faster than the set speed.
    I think the obvious thing would be to let the car have more control over the set speed in scenarios like this, but that opens up a whole bunch of questions and potential issues, and it's possible those are the reason Tesla hasn't done it yet.

    • @TheTechofTech
      @TheTechofTech  2 роки тому +1
