every now and then YT recommends a channel that might be of interest, and your videos started popping up..and for once, YT got it right...your content/editing and research i have found to be very good..begs to question why your channel is not bigger..surely deserve more subs/views..keep up the videos..thx
I flew on the FAA C123 with the two jet engines several times in the 1960’s. My father was in the FAA here in Alaska. The pilot was Jack Jeffers and his biography is a great fun read! The plane is in the air museum here in Wasilla Alaska. Also of note were a couple of C82 boxcars from Wien Airlines with the jet mounted on the top. On spent several very cold winter months with a blown radial engine at Moses Point on Norton Sound east of Nome. I lived there 2 years. Six houses and home schooling. I also flew on many of the FAA DC 3’s including N3, N5 and N7.

Looks like an interesting project , I'm the son of WG Woodard President of Omni Aviation Managers , we sponsored Clay Lacy and others in the Reno and Mojave air races , racing WW2 fighters and Douglas Dc-7 b and a Lockheed Constellation around the pylons , sharing offices with Clay we got to meet his air Racing friends and other innovators in aviation like Jack Conroy and Bob Hoover and Chuck Yeager , Allan Poulsen Etc. , looking forward to more videos
I had never heard about this, but couldn’t believe the Reno part so I had to research it a bit - I believe they only raced at Mojave, and unfortunately the Connie never had a chance to race as (apparently) all the single-engine teams complained the night before (so bizarre to think about!) I’m kinda shocked that the DC-7 did so well, pulling 2.2 Gs consistently would make me extremely nervous lol - apparently they burned 80 gallons of OIL and flew around 355mph. In theory the Connie would have been slower (I think?) as it’s Vne was lower than the DC-7s average race speed even… but it definitely would have been an incredible sight!
@@EstorilEm Some of the folks we sponsored with Omni ( Howie Keefe Miss America ) made complaints about wake turbulence and we pulled both out of the race
@@flyinbiker2001 that’s what I read, I’m assuming it was complete BS? In a closed loop all the wake turbulence would be pushed outward of the course, right? Sounds like the initial success of the DC-7 in Mojave scared everyone off.
The XP-81 was a beautiful aircraft 😳 It’s a shame none of these were really very successful, minus the Fairchild cargo aircraft. We flew into an airshow at Hagerstown a few years back, across from the old abandoned Fairchild plant - the airport still has a large number of various retired mixed-propulsion Fairchild planes just sitting around the ramp. At the time I had no clue they used jets on so many of their prop aircraft!
Don't forget the Avro Shackleton, that was fitted with a pair of viper turbojets in the engine nacelles to boost takeoff performance I think. I'm working entirely from childhood memory here, but I think the Duxford museum have one on display in the same hangar as their Concord.
I haven't done a lot of research into non-US built mixed power aircraft, but I'll add that to my list. Was that a certain model of the Shackelton, or a one off modification? I know there was a Lancaster modified with the Nene engine, and another fitted with the Beryl. I'll see if I can compile enough for an episode on non US examples.

Everything discussed in this video is unique in one way or another. Some more so than others. I was merely trying to convey the unusually unconventional nature of the aircraft. That said, I'm just an aviation enthusiast, not an English major, so don't expect perfect grammatical syntax. Nonetheless, I'll keep your comment in mind next time.

You missed one - There is a radial-engine biplane that has flown the airshow circuit for a numberr of years with a belly-mount jet engine.
