  • When installing vinyl plank flooring or laminate flooring, there is not another tip like this that will save you this much time and frustration. In this video I share an outstanding tip on how to measure cuts using just a scrap of Vinyl Plank or Laminate Plank. This can be used on walls, door jambs, vents, exterior doors and anywhere you need to cut a vinyl plank or laminate plank. This works on crooked walls, wavy walls or both. It is really an incredible tool to use and you can learn this in seconds.
Here are the links to tools I use. If you use these links I do get a commission and my family and I thank you very much for your support!

At first was a little difficult to grasp the cheater, but once I understood your method, it was great. I spent hours in my kitchen measuring, then watched your video and I was flying through the cuts. Not only was I flying through the install, I no longer needed a tape measure. Thanks for posting that video.
This trick saved me a lot of time/hours, and the cuts were more exact then when I used tape measure. THANKS AGAIN. This was my first plank install and was easy after watching your video

In the UK this is how we do it I wouldn't know any other way to do the cuts, we call it 'tile on a tile" method or back marking. Works for nearly all laying methods except heringbone installation 👍

Great video, in the example you installed a single row and scribed it to the wall, how did you decide how far it should be from the wall before scribing ? Is this only necessary for hallways when it continues to another room ? Or is that how you should start in every room ?

Can I ask a potentially silly question?
If you use a block to tap your planks in, won't that damage the click T&G?
I'm currently in the planning stage of laying down vinyl planks in hallway/kitchen and two cupboard storage spaces to lay floor as well. In one area there is a cluster of three doorframes in close proximity to each other. I'm dreading it!
We're also planning on getting new door linings. Would you say it's advisable to lay down the floor first and then place the jambs on top or the other way around?
Thanks for all of your videos!

Yeah, all very nice. But I don't have planks already installed that can use that trick. I'm coming from a living room, with planks parallel to the hallway. When I reach the corner that extends into the hallway I have to cut the planks lengthwise to fit around the corner against the hallway wall. From there it is just guesswork to lay planks in doorways and between 2 cold air returns.
